  • Review: Pool And Spa Cleaning Service

Replaced all piping in pool. Reconfigured skimmers, returns and water inlet. Installed and relocated pool ladder. Installed base plate for Handicap chair. Resurfaced pool and replaced all brick coping around edge of pool. Retiled perimeter and stairs of pool. Brought pool back up to code.

This project went letter perfect. Our pool was in need of being resurfaced. We are a small privately owned Condominium Association in Seaside, Or. Our pool is circa. 1950. It is 9 foot deep, 20 foot wide and 40 foot long. It was severely out of compliance with county codes and regulations.

Finding a contractor at the beach is difficult (no one moves to the beach to do work). I found 5 names of contractors within 100-150 miles of our location. After going on line to check them out I found that all of them with the exception of Medford-Myers are in the Pool Sales/ business. Medford-Myers only re-surfaced and worked on pools.

I contacted Medford-Myers about getting a quote for our pool work. It just so happened they were in Seaside redoing one of the public pools. Kent Myers came by and within a week we had a bid for around $26,000. The Estimate clearly explained the work that was being done and was broken down to show pricing for Resurfacing, Coping replacement and new tile bands around the pool. Payment was required at intervals during construction (1/3 up front, 1/3 after tile install and a final payment upon completion).

The pricing of the project was better than we expected. The only other reference we had was a neighboring association that had the same work done 5-6 years earlier, for almost the same price.

Two weeks after I got the bid, I went to the public pool in Seaside to inspect the work Medford-Myers had done. I was able to talk to one of the pool attendants about how they liked the work. He spoke highly about the work that was done. He took me into the pool area to see the finished work. The Attendant said the entire staff was very pleased with the work and the professionalism of the Medford- Myers workers.

After this positive experience, I went to the Better Business Bureau and the Contractors Board to check for outstanding issues. There were no complaints or derogatory issues of any kind. After completing our “Due Diligence,” we moved forward with Medford-Myers.

    Our concerns and the outcome:

When it comes to the pool, I do not know what I do not know. Kent Myers bid what I asked him to. Pool resurfacing, Coping Brick and tile. I told Kent we wanted to re-pipe the pool at a later date, as we felt it was out of code. He explained the down side of waiting until later to complete the piping. Re-piping the pool added about $9,000 to the price. Looking back, ignoring this would have cost us much more in the future.

The next concern was the time line. We contracted with Medford Myers in November 2014. The pool was closed and would not be open again until the end of May. Kent Myers guaranteed that the pool would be finished and open for this date. He beat the date by 3 months. His crew worked in every type of beach weather there was except the Ice.

We could not be happier with the outcome of this project. The time line was met. There were no cost overruns. Medford-Myers did everything they said they would do and more.

Ken came to review our large pool. He made great suggestions on how to reset the tile myself and regrout areas that needed it as well as what materials to use. He thought we need not resurface the pool at this time but me a quote. He also said to call him at any time should I need assistance with any of the matters we discussed.
