  • Dr. Van Horne has a very detailed pre-surgery schedule for his patients so that they will be in shape to get the best results from his skill.  I followed his advice on exercising exactly, before and after surgery and am so pleased with the results.  I am 8 weeks after surgery and am almost back to normal, still careful about rotating my hip.  I had NO pain after surgery and can walk as far as I want and do most of my usual activities.  Physical therapy was easy because I was so dedicated to doing it!  Dr. Van Horne is the best!

  • They were very caring, direct and informative.  They told me exactly what they were going to do and then did it.  His estimates for recovery and rehab were spot on  I would use him again in a heart beat.  He also uses Three Rivers Hospital and they have a very good rating of extremely low infection rate which from several nurses I talked to, that is key.

  • The assistant that I met with, Greg, was very courteous and answered all of my questions.  He also showed me the actual replacement hip that is used an how it works.  That was helpful.  I received a packet of material about all that would be needed, what to expect and what recovery would be like.  I have also gotten blood test and xrays for the surgeon to review with me next week.  That is when the surgery will be scheduled.  What was also very helpful was that I watched 4 videos on U Tube of an anterior hip replacement and that took most of my concerns away, seeing the actual procedure being done.  It also narrowed down my questions and made the whole procedure very real.  I was able to walk withing 24 hours.  Pretty nice.

  • Dr. K is very efficient and businesslike, but also friendly and respectful.  Performed physical exam and apologized when it became a bit uncomfortable. Showed me just what my problem(s) were via computerized MRI results (helps you visualize). Listened to my own evaluation of how I was doing, commended me on my efforts to follow exercises recommended by physical therapists and results I had achieved.  Did not push for surgery, even though my condition is rated "severe".  No pressure at all (not what I expected).  Explained all my options if pain returns, the LAST resort being surgery.  No more "unknowns".
Don't waste his time and he won't waste yours.  Ask questions (but don't ramble); he'll answer them.  You know you're in good hands here.  This is what you want when you see a specialist!

  • This man really cares about his patients. He has a friendly staff and a nice office near the hospital. If you have a surgery he is at the hospital first thing every morning. He makes sure you know everything and are well informed before the surgery. You may not see him personally for an office visit. However, he has very competent assistants and is usually there if needed.

  • I was pleased with Dr. Vanhorne and the reputation that he has around the hospital. Everyone said I was fortunate to have him as a surgeon. I appreciate Dr. Vanhorne's compassion and care that he gives his patients. I felt that I was in good hands.
I saw him 8 weeks after the surgery and it was the same caring treatment. He gave my husband and me time to ask questions. He answered them and gave complete instructions for my care. He left saying that I could call any time if I had other questions or concerns - he said every question is an important one, so not to hestitate to call.

  • I think it went well overall... I have been a patient there for over 10 years, so they accepted my insurance when it changed to Medicare and Regence.  I would go back, but I hope to not need any more replacements any time soon.

  • I would not return to that office again due to the office staff who were quite difficult to deal with in getting paperwork filled out. This was particularly in regard to the FMLA paperwork, which they charged an upfront fee (I guess this is common now) but then had a woman call me and she was quite argumentative and obviously did not know anything about FMLA and how it is supposed to work. This became a major stress in a difficult episode when my medical condition was painful and difficult enough on its own. ---Update: I didn't really expect to have any more contact with this office, and was very unhappy with the staff during several phone calls to get FMLA paperwork done a couple of weeks ago. As it turns out, this may have been one individual only, as I have had much better experiences since we contacted their office manager who was quite helpful, and we felt was working with us, rather than blowing us off. She was entirely pleasant and we were able to quickly resolve a situation with the complex paperwork. Overall, I have raised my rating and wanted to give them credit.
