    Western Roots Masonry and Construction
Rick completed our masonry work yesterday. He is a very hard worker, and has great attention to detail. We are very satisfied with how he completed our project with his excellent quality of work. Additionally, he is a very nice person, listened to what we wanted, and went above and beyond. We highly recommend Western Roots Masonry!

OK. Crews are in short supply, apparently. Our Fall project became a December project. The first crew did not want the work, the second crew did a job to expectations. This survey is not specific to the Sales, Project Management or actual work performance areas. Sales took our ideas and laid out the ideas into a design. Project management kept us completely informed to job status and was our interface to the work crew. Materials were delivered too early and excess picked up a week after project completion. Two pallets were parked on my neighbors property.... The sub-contracted work crew usually started after 10:00am and left at dark around 4:30pm. so the project took days longer to complete than expected. Below freezing weather and cold was also an issue, but they knew this before starting work in December.

We have been working with Rob Hoffman of New Earth Landscape for about a year now, over three phases of landscaping on our property, and we're planning to continue hiring him in future phases. We've been so impressed with his work. First, he is a great listener, even as we ramble about our ideas, sometimes unsure of what we want. He talks us through our ideas, adding his own great design sense, until we come up with a plan together.
Rob's stonework is beautiful. He works with care and attention to detail, and it shows in the final product. We watched him work through freezing weather and cold rain to diligently make progress on our stone wall, but he also never rushed or compromised the final product. We're so pleased with the stone wall. It's functional and strong, but it's also a work of art.
Rob also installed a sod lawn and planted several beds for us, as well as installing irrigation throughout. For this phase, we had 3 other companies, all larger, come out to give us quotes. Rob's bid was very competitive, and given our positive experience with him before, we chose him for this project as well. We weren't disappointed. From preparing the soil for establishing a lawn to selecting plants, he's done great work. We're looking forward to hiring him for more landscaping work in the next few years and can recommend him without any hesitation.

    Bruce Ruhnow Landscape & Design
We had purchased a heavy piece of columnar stone with a hole drilled in it so that it could be a fountain, and we purchased the accompanying pond and pump.  My husband struggled for hours to install the pump, succeeding only to have the flexible hose break free because the pump was too large for the pond it--and the stone--were to sit in.  When the water flowed, the pressure on the too-sharp angle caused the piping to spring free.  We decided to hire Bruce to help us out and it was the best money we ever spent.  He exchanged the too-large pump for one of a more suitable size (which he went and got himself), installed the pump, buried the flexible hosing and the electrical wire leading to the fixture, and nicely landscaped the area around the fountain.  We have enjoyed the fountain ever since and did not regret for a second paying Bruce to do a job we "should have" been able to do ourselves.  The stone piece was so heavy and we are so unaccustomed to this type of work that it could have led to injury.
Also.....We hired Bruce many years ago (probably 10 or so years ago) and he did an outstanding job rebuilding a fallen retaining wall in our front yard.  It had two layers and Bruce restored the layers with new concrete blocks, and made them more attractive, suggesting curving walls.  He also provided topsoil for the newly layered flower beds.
We love Bruce.  He's a good man, honest and pleasant to work with.  If his bid on a project is slightly higher than someone else's, I would hire him anyway.  You can count on his work and his professionalism.

    Advantage Air Duct Cleaning
Nate did a great job and a cleaned up all of the sand that ended up on the roof because of the masonry work. It is hard to find someone to work on chimneys and as far as I concerned it was well worth the cost.

Meticulous attention to detail. An artists eye for design and material. A good listener. A steady pace at very heavy, hard work in all weather. The finished product is beautiful, functional, and professionally correct.

Rob Hoffman, the owner of the business, did the work himself. Rob specializes in hardscapes, especially stonework. He is a world-class stone mason. The quality of his work is truly outstanding. If you are looking for someone to use natural stone to create something beautiful - and functional - he is your guy. An artist with stone. We particularly like the two dry-fitted basalt walls, hand chiseled, piece-by-piece, to fit together into curving walls that are sculptures as much as walls. His work has to be seen to be appreciated. Not the cheapest rock wall builder in the state, but surely the best.

Great Job! They do an amazing job, pavers to decking!
Doug has come back for several major projects, including insetting some brick pavers in our older asphalt driveway to create a bit more wow. We love the custom lattice work Doug built this summer to screen the underside of our five year old deck (he built this monster deck for us, then we added cable railing). His design work is so artistic - no straight lines so it fits perfectly into our woodland garden.
I can't wait to have The Patio Pros back to do a large arbor over my entrance into the rose garden area, and replace the grape arbors too. Each project is better than the last. He gets really busy, so sign up early if you want to get the work done in the spring.

Pandora came and did the measurements promising a quote soon. Meanwhile I checked the reviews here at Angie's List and saw that their grades were very low. When she called to get my last name to mail me the quote, I asked her if she had noticed the reviews. She had not. I asked if she had client references. This appeared to anger her and her voice became elevated. She said that she didn't give references, that the work spoke for itself. She said that her clients were high end people like the mayor who wouldn't want to give a reference. She seemed mad at me for even asking. She repeated that they were the oldest company in town doing walls and that we could ask Willamette Graystone about them. She said that she would not even bother to send us the quote (because I had asked for references). I told her that I thought it was common practice to ask for references. I tried using calming techniques to lower the emotional level of the conversation. Finally she agreed to send the quote.
I did call Willamette Graystone and they diplomatically said that Doug's work was fine.
The quote she sent had a note explaining that Angie's List is a scam and that if you don't pay Angie's List, they give you bad grades. I disagree with her opinion.
We did not use this company.
