Concrete Repair reviews in Corvallis

    Jackson Construction
We contacted five firms for bids and three returned our calls. From the very start of the bid process, we were impressed with Dorson's level of professionalism and attention to detail. After a thorough walk-thru of the property and listening to what we wanted to accomplish, we met about a week later to review his bid - in person, not in an email like others had done. We expected a one to two-page estimate with a laundry list of our project items - what we received was a bid "package" with detailed statement of work, estimates for each part of the work to be done, pictures of before (from those he took in our initial walk-thru) and proposed after pictures of items that would be used in our renovation including web site references for products he was proposing. My husband and I were very impressed with the time and effort that went into putting the package together. Again, it was well thought out, provided options, solutions, and the level of detail that gave us high confidence in choosing Dorson and Jackson Construction for the work. As we progressed with the renovation, Dorson coordinated all sub contractors, introduced them, allowed them to do their work, frequently checked in and always reviewed the completed work with us after it was done. Every subcontractor that worked on our property was professional, courteous, and left the site tidy after every work day. With every project, when uncovering old material, you never know what you may find - and we did have a couple of surprises that required extra time and material to make right but Dorson worked to ensure that it was the best long-term solution and one that made sense with our budget. Dorson was always accessible, always provided a "heads up" on our schedule for the week for subs, and we never wondered at what phase we were in our project schedule. Another (pretty awesome) thing I have to mention regarding Dorson's attention to detail - he would observe things, like the water pooling in our front yard from a poorly installed drain - and would come back the next day with a write up of a solution including diagrams, pictures, etc. - and not to say "here, if you pay me, I'll fix this" but "here's something I noticed and here's how you can fix it". His mind is always working, observing, looking for solutions to make something better. My husband and I are very happy that we chose Dorson and Jackson Construction for our renovation - and actually a bit sad to have it ending - the dust and activity won't be missed, but Dorson will be. A fine human being, a man of integrity, and a fantastic sense of humor to go with - we are hoping to stay in contact with him on a social as well as professional basis. I would recommend Jackson Construction without hesitation. Our expectations were consistently exceeded throughout our project and we are extremely pleased with the end result.

At my home they put in a driveway and a stamped concrete patio. They put in a huge parking area for the place that I worked for. The service was excellent. The quality was very high, and he was very reasonably priced. They were great with communication. The customer service was very clear and concise. I would recommend them.

If you can get Jason Smith to do anything for you, do so. He acted as primary carpenter/designer and contractor for our shed project. His work is exemplary and those he sub-contracted did excellent work (Rite Way Electric, Knife River for concrete work). He intelligent, patient and flexible. It is my understanding that he no longer wishes to do this kind of work.  Our loss.

Dan and his crew came out in cold and heavy drizzle/fog to get it done.  We had to go out of town for part of the time and they worked through it without really needing further instruction/input (he was sure to get a clear idea of what I wanted prior to starting the job).  We got back as they were finishing up, they had to leave some framing on the steps along the garage because it hadn't 'set' yet... which was fine.  But they said they'd return to remove it and never did.  I called a few times about it, they gave me some suggestions for doing it myself, but I was not able to get the wood off.  I was later told they'd just stop by around some other jobs, but never did.  We ended up selling the house a year and a half later and it still had the steps framed.  It was enough of an 'out of sight-out of mind' issue and benign enough that it wasn't a priority for me to have addressed, but it was annoying that they had said they'd get it and didn't.  That's really my only complaint.  The job was done well.  Correspondence wasn't great, but was acceptable.  But the guys really did work hard through some unpleasant weather and they were able to get a miserable job done before the weather really got bad.  The new driveway space drained well and provided all the space we needed (and then some).  :)  They also re-stoned the remainder of our driveway while they were having the stone company deliver rock for their project, and they did a great job on that even though it was a bit outside of what I had hired them to do (it was at an agreed upon additional price, but it was something we were going to hire someone to do anyway).  It worked out well.

Worked collaboratively with us to design a rather unusual front porch and walkway with concrete. Broke up and disposed of old concrete slab. Helped compensate for erosion underneath the main frame of the house that was discovered after removing the old slab. Built concrete framing and poured new slab. All workers came on time, worked diligently, were friendly, and cleaned up the site carefully after each step. The whole porch is much more beautiful than we ever thought we would have.
Thomas was especially responsive to emails and phoned in questions.Even though our job was relatively small he treated us as if we were spending millions of dollars! We recommend them highly.

Phil arrived with some serious equipment that made the job of removing the bushes and digging out the space for the pad easier than I thought it would be. A few days of compressed rock placement in between rain storms and the concrete pad and all was finished exactly as I wanted it. Then he took on my shower plumbing charging me $25 plus parts to fix the leaks.

I will use him for refinishing my hardwood floors, remodeling my bathroom, replacing my driveway and installing a back yard patio.

We would unhesitatingly recommend Jason Smith to anyone who needs a competent, reliable person to do large or small construction projects.

By far our biggest project was the replacement/expansion of our driveway and the building of our beautiful new shed.  This work was completed last year in April (2010).  We found out about Jason from a neighbor.  From the beginning, Jason's bid stood out from all the rest.  He broke down costs for each part of the project and listed the subcontractors he would use for each part of the work.  We saw examples of his work, called other references, and verified his license - just as we did for other contractors.  However, it was Jason who came out more than once with potential subcontractors to check out the project.  It was Jason who always answered promptly, either by phone or email.  At the end, we decided to go with Smith Family Construction.  A good choice!

Once the project started, it went smoothly from beginning to end.  If Jason said he was going to be there, he was.  He was always professional in his dealings with us, his employee, Scott, and the many subcontractors who came out to do the work.  My sister and I asked many questions...Jason always answered them in ways we could understand.  We - well I, actually, was very picky about how the shed looked, colors, where windows were, etc.  Jason never acted put out, even when I changed my mind about something.  The carpentry work he did was stellar.  When he was concerned about a particular part of the concrete work that was being done, he was able to work it out with the subcontractor in a way that no feathers were ruffled and a potential problem was averted.  Phone calls and emails were answered promptly.  Over my many years of home ownership, I have never had such a positive experience with a contractor...and I believe I speak for my sister as well.

Our contractor's name was Thomas Yoney and we can definitely recommend him to others for the following reasons: 1. He was prompt in coming to see our place and gave us a detailed estimate that was very clear in listing exactly what amounts would be charged for what services. 2. Once he set up a working schedule, he stuck too it. We could always depend on him to be there when he said he would. The only time he had to break his schedule was when unexpected extremely hot weather made pouring concrete ill-advisable. 3. He made sure that the work was done to our satisfaction and finished as perfectly as possible. His crew did a great job and we love our patio. 4. He (and his crew) were courteous and professional in their manner while on the job. 5. When the crew was done, they cleaned up the work site very well. We would definitely call on him again for our home remodeling jobs.

    Paul S Williams
This was a really big job. Paul was a great guy to work with. We hired him to do the work and I promised some help. The problem was that we had to put in a whole lot of our own time and energy to make sure the job got done in a reasonable amount of time. It took a month. Paul insisted on renting metal rimmed forms. Admittedly, they went up quickly and ensured no blow outs. The problem was in renting them: no one would rent to a home owner. When we finally found a company, Paul had to haul them from Vancouver, WA to Corvallis. They were dirty and many in poor shape. We had to help clean and then put them up. Paul was a 1.5 man show but this job really took at least 4 or 6. During 90 degree days, it got a little frustrating but we muddled through. When the slab was to be done, I had to ensure he had a crew as it was over 800 sqft and I knew he wouldn't be able to do it himself. Due to rain, the job had minor botches in it but it turned out OK. Paul did smaller things wonderfully. He lovingly poured and finished the exterior egress steps to the basement and landing, finishing around a drain with precision. He and my husband poured and finished the front porch, steps, and walkway and it turned out great. Paul is great to work with and is both very kind and patient.
