Hawkins Custom Carpentry has been doing both modifications and maintenance carpentry work at our home for over ten years (2005 to 2018). Mark Hawkins is knowledgeable and experienced. I am aware of the other projects in Bartlesville and this area that he has worked on. His skills and experience in carpentry go beyond the work done at our home and include: carpentry work on the construction of new homes, restoration work on historic homes, remodels, add-ons, trim, cabinets & counter tops, decks, maintenance repair, and much more.

First of all Poor communication: Day one he shows up, instead of working where he could he wanted to start on an area that was not ready because we understood he would be texturing the first day. Instead he and his crew decided they wanted to lay the flooring in the den. They went at pulling the baseboard, broke the base boards so that added another expense and time because I had to spend two nights getting the stain just right for the new flooring. Took them ALL day to lay one room of flooring, did not follow instructions pertaining to two removable faux built in bookshelves we have, husband had to correct their work so we could roll them out of their cubbies. Texturing was nothing special, pretty inconsistent in my opinion, he didn't want to bring in his machine so he used the spray on can stuff in certain places he had patched which if you are looking for it you definitely can tell a difference. By our request we did not have them out for three days because we were staining the baseboards and he was still coming out once a day to work on his patches. They came out on day 5 to lay the baseboards in the den. Worst baseboard job I've ever seen. I'm a basic do it yourselfer, the head guy let a 19 year old do the work, while he oversaw. Guess how they joined two pieces of trim? End to End... who does that? The 19 year old didn't even measure right (we had a limited amount of trim), he left a 1-2 inch gap between to pieces and put in (with the help of the "head guy") a patch - three ends right after each other nailed in. The other wall that had two pieces joined, you could probably fit about 10 playing cards between them. Plus the head guy knowing fully that those faux built ins have to be able to roll out put the base boards up to it so it was jammed in. After giving them some cash they took off, when they returned he dropped the 19 year old off to lay padding for the laminate floor. I politely asked the kid if he had ever done trim work before because this is not how you join pieces. Explained to him how it worked... he tried to fix it but didn't do the best of job. He proceeded to lay padding, how do you mess that up? He did, he duct tapped it to the concrete floor in a patch work mode. Did not run the moisture barrier up the wall 3 inches like you are supposed to with concrete, actually didn't even put the moisture barrier against the concrete on a few pieces. WAISTED a full roll of our padding.  Later that afternoon the head guy tried to pour leveling compound, what a mess, he waited too long to pour it so he basically tried to put it on the floor like you do grout, it didn't level anything, actually made a hill in one area. Husband fixed that this weekend. While the contractor was mixing that stuff he spilt some on my front patio (why he was mixing it right there is beyond me) he did not clean it up and when he realized he had dropped/spilt some he went to wipe it off and broke a beautiful stepping stone I've had for years. He did not tell me about it, he threw it in my flower bed behind a bush so I wouldn't see it.
This group is unprofessional and messy. His texturing job, he tapped everything off yet I there was mud EVERYWHERE on my wood. I had to spend a full evening washing my wood trim, cigarette butts everywhere, didn't even clean up the boxes of floor they opened, plastic and cardboard everywhere. Outside they left wood everywhere right infront of my home.
He wanted more money than we had paid him for what he had already done, my husband worked out the numbers and felt that we had already given him plenty for what he had done since he was not going to finish the job. He then went onto threaten my family harm and insult our appearance (chuckle). He then told us that those that worked for him would be upset cause they are the ones we are hurting by not paying him more money and that he doesn't know what they might do to us.
Needless to say this guy is not worth the hassle. Nothing about his work is professional. Nothing.

Tulsa Renew ordered a 20 yard dumpster to be delivered to my home for construction work that they were performing.  A 30 yard dumpster was delivered and placed on a new concrete driveway.  I live on a dead end street in Washington County.  When the dumpster was delivered, the driver had some difficulty in getting it set up on the driveway.  The space was tight and the truck had to be backed out of the street onto a major traffic street in Bartlesville.  When the dumpster was to be picked up, the driver could not get the dumpster out of the driveway.  He tore up the yard across the street from my driveway and came inches from knocking the dumpster into my carport.  He repaired the damages to the neighbor's yard and left without the dumpster.  After talking to the staff at Harley Hollan several times, I was assured that they would send their "best driver" to pick up the dumpster.  The second attempt to pick up the dumpster ended with the street being blocked for three and a half hours, two mailboxes being taken down, and the carport corner post being bent.  The new driveway was scraped and had gouges and corners broken off several sections. The driver requested help from his supervisor,  who did show up.  Neither had sufficient problem solving skills to get the dumpster out of the driveway without damage to property.  Tulsa Renew took pictures of the damages and requested repairs.  My neighbor made repeated phone calls concerning damages to his yard.  Harley Hollan sent out employees to fill in the holes in the neighbor's yard (hole  was about two feet deep and about ten feet long) and holes in my yard.  Heavy rain washed away several inches of dirt, so the neighbor requested sod be added.  Several days later, workers added the sod.  They also set up the two mailboxes.  However, my mailbox is not balanced and consequently the door to the mailbox will not stay shut.  They also put in a new carport corner post and painted it.  The driveway still has scrapes and gouges and is broken/chipped at the corners.  Harley Hollan tells me that there is very little they can do about that!!!
My contacts with Harley Hollan were mostly professional.  I did have a problem with one of the workers who put in the new carport corner post.  He asked my how many times I had hit the post with my car.  I felt like this comment was blaming me for the damages, rather than the company taking responsibility for the damage.  By the way, there were no dents in the post prior to Harley Hollan!
My new driveway is now a source of irritation and a reminder of the lack of respect shown for my property by Harley Hollan.  I would never deal with this company again.
