House Painting reviews in Wyoming

    J L Painting of USA
We hired J L painting USA because of the good angie's list reviews. We agreed to the estimate given and after the painting was done we realized they hadn't prepped the wood trim properly before painting. In fact, our neighbor across the street came over to ask us why the wood wasn't sanded. He could see the "island" and bumps and unevenness from across the street! My husband contacted Jose and he came out and told my husband it would take too much work to have sanded the wood. He is a professional, we didn't think we needed to ask him how he was going to prep the wood for painting. As you can see on the porch trim is looks like bad acne with deep grooves from them scraping incorrectly. He said his men didn't cause those gauges, but yes they did. We are the homeowner and it didn't look like that previously. We wanted to put our home on the market and we are now going to hire someone else to correct the deep gauges on the back porch. When they came back out they did fix the side trim and it looks good, the front gable now looks better, but its still grainy. The back porch trim looks better but we are still going to need someone to fill in the deep groves. I spoke to Jose and he said there was nothing more that could be done. Funny because his employee told me "The next time you have the have the house painted there is a product to spread on the wood that will make all of the paint come off while scraping so that you will not have these islands of old paint showing through. Well, why didn't they do that??? Finally we said it was good enough and paid him. We wanted to be done with them. I will give credit where credit is due, they painted the trim around our three front windows very well (photo shown )

Master Touch Painting & Restoration, Inc
In 2015 I entered into a contract to have my Wyoming, Ohio wood shingle house painted by Master Touch Painting and Restoration Inc. When the painters arrived at our home to begin prepping the house to be painted, I was informed by the owner, Ferri Vargus, that we had lead paint on our trim of the outside windows which was not part of the quote. He advised that there would be an additional charge of $1200, which I ultimately paid. Shortly after the painting was completed, I noticed several areas where air bubbles formed on the shingles. I also noticed that only part of the frames and trim on some windows were properly completed. After numerous attempts to contact Master Touch to fix the issues and extend the warranty, the only way I was able to get Master Touch to return and fix the issues was thru a complaint on Angies List. In July of 2017 I again noticed paint bubbling and chipping on shingles, so I sent emails to Master Touch to have them come and fix the problem. When I received no reply to my email, I called their office numerous times and left voice mails, as no one answered the phone. I do not know if this was due to a staffing issue, or that caller ID showed who was calling and they were screening their calls. On March 3, 2018 I again contacted Master Touch and finally talked with someone at the office who told me that someone from the warranty department would contact me to set up a time to meet with me. On June 1, 2013 Ferri Vargus showed up at my house unannounced with a paint company representative. I was not home but my wife pointed out the areas where the paint was bubbling. Mr. Vargus proceeded to remove some of the bubbled paint from my house, leaving parts of the bare shingle exposed. He handed my wife some of the paint that he removed and told her that it is not covered under warranty because of the type of shingles we have on the house was not holding the paint. He did not attempt to repaint the areas where he removed paint and left, leaving the house in worse condition than before he arrived. Note: In a side conversation, the paint rep also stated to my wife that Mr. Vargas should not have removed the paint, or he should have at least repainted those areas where he elected to pull off the paint. If what Mr. Vargas is saying is correct, then it appears that he did not prep the house properly for the paint he intended on using. Master Touch supplied the paint; we only provided the color that we wanted him to match (same color from previous paint job). It should also be noted that this was the first time in the 40+ years we have lived in our home where the house was spray painted instead of painting by brush. The bubble issue also never occurred after previous paint jobs while the paint job was still under warranty. When I tried to contact Mr. Vargas, I only got voice mails and left him messages requesting to talk with him. In an effort to receive a return phone call I even requested an estimate to fix the areas in question- although I believe Master Touch should be responsible to repair the work still under warranty. Towards the end of June 2018, Mr. Vargas sent me a text that he would be out of town for the 4th of July and would set up a time to meet with me upon his return. However, after nearly a year now, Mr. Vargus has yet to contact me and additional areas on the house are now bubbling and pealing. Master Touch Painting has been very difficult to deal with. They ignored my calls and emails for a year in 2017. In 2018 they waited 3 months before getting back with me, but then showed up unannounced, when Mr. Vargas knew I would not be home, and ultimately stated that that paint issue is due to my shingles, when it is more likely due to poor or improper prepping the house for the paint, using the wrong type of paint for our shingles or applying the paint improperly. Mr. Vargus has refused to answer my calls or to follow up to correct the problems. We did not supply the paint. We provided Mr. Vargas a paint color that we wanted him to match; however, he told my wife that the problem was with the paintwhich he provided. Mr. Vargas examined the house prior to offering a quote to paint and was fully aware of the surface that was to be painted. As a professional, it is his responsibility to provide the proper paint and to apply the paint in the correct manner so these issues would not occur while the paint job is still under warranty. Per our warranty, I feel that Master Touch has an obligation to fix the problems that now exist and provide the proper paint and paint application, so the problem is corrected.

    J L Painting of USA
Jose is great to work with. He looked at the entire house and we discussed options of either just touching up or painting the entire home. I went with the entire home. Not inexpensive (we have a large, older home), but we found his price to be very fair and more reasonable than the two other companies we looked at using. Jose worked around my schedule, his crew showed up on time and worked long days. They cleaned up each evening and when they finished. They understood the surfaces and paint and if the paint wasnt going on the way they thought it should would re do it to make it right. All the crew were easy to have on our property. Jose went over the house when they finished and pointed out a couple of areas they wanted to watch, reminding me to call him and they would fix any bubbles that might happen. He is thorough! I wouldnt hesitate a second to recommend JL Painting of USA. Very nice people who work hard and do a great job at a reasonable cost!

    CertaPro Painters of Cincinnati
The painter did a fine job repainting the 2 small areas where we had entire boards replaced. However they did a horrible job where the paint had started to chip. From what we could tell, the painter just painted over those areas without any scraping or attempt to fill in the gap created by the peeling paint. After complaining, they offered to reduce the price some, but we felt it was still too high considering we were going to have to pay someone else to redo the majority of the work. We then asked for them to either come out and address the issues, or provide us with a larger discount. They said this time of year was not "paint friendly", and they wanted to close the account out for for the end of the fiscal year, so the best they could do was reduce our bill to $350. We were unhappy with this offer, but felt $350 was not worth pursuing legally or risking a ding on our credit report, so just paid the bill. We will not be using, or recommending them in the future.

    Gray Painting
After contacting a number of contractors to get estimates for this job, I chose Gray Painting because I thought the proposal I received from Jason Gray, owner/operator of Gray Painting, sounded like it had the best plan for prep work for the job. This was important to me since properly preparing the surface to be painted is a big factor in ending up with a good paint job. Also, Gray's price was in line with the quote from the contractor who offered what I thought was the second-best prep plan, and I was favorably impressed with the timeliness of correspondence with Jason (quote given at the time of initial visit, phone calls always returned by the end of the next business day). As for the work done on this job, two men came on the day the project was scheduled to begin, and they worked diligently to scrape and sand (used an orbital sander) to remove the peeling paint and years of accumulated dirt and grime. (The paint was too far gone to power wash; there would have been paint chips blasted everywhere, and it would have gotten the exposed wood underneath all wet.) After scraping and sanding, they brushed off the loose paint chips and dust from sanding, and then they applied a coat of oil-based primer. (Jason had said they would use an oil-based primer to help stop the nails from rusting through the paint again.) Lastly they applied Sherwin-Williams acrylic latex paint. They were able to get most of the job done in one day; Jason came by himself the next day and finished up what was left to be done. Everyone was very pleasant, easy to talk to, and readily answered any questions I had. They all put tarps down before they started work to keep from getting paint chips/sanding dust or fresh paint on the ground/driveway as they worked. And I don't think they got any paint on the brick walls at all. It has now been almost a year since they painted, and it all still looks great. I would highly recommend Gray Painting.

    Ken Yust Painting
I didn't hire him. I phone him for an estimate and heard back from him a few days later. We met the following week to discuss the project. He said he'd have an estimate for me in a few days. About a week later he left me a voice mail with the estimate price (nothing in writing) and said that he didn't think he'd be able to do the work as he'd need to hire some help. Really? This is a 2500 sq ft ranch that is primarily brick. I tried to call him back, left messages, and he never returned my calls. An even bigger issue that I had with him...When he was at my home "estimating", I asked him about a painter whom I had used in the past and wondered if he knew the guy. He said that yes, he does know the man. He asked why I wasn't using this person again, and I indicated that while he is also a friend of the family in addition to being a painter, he was busy and difficult to get ahold of...maybe even semi-retired. So I was looking for someone else. A couple of weeks later I heard from my friend/painter, wanting to know if there was a problem because Ken told him that he was out here to give me an estimate for a job. I did not appreciate Ken discussing my project with a person I consider a friend and who may be hurt by the incident. Very unprofessional.

    Tri State Painting
I couldn't be happier with Tri-State. The estimate was right in the ballpark with other estimates I had acquired, except that Chris' estimate included much more detail and work, and they offer a 5-year guarantee. I was given ballpark time frame of when they could do the job, and they began the work exactly when they had stated they would. My entire home was power washed and prepped prior to painting. At that time, Chris pointed out to me areas that need additional attention, such as some windows that needed to be re-caulked/sealed. I do not feel that they "rushed" through the project, they took their time and paid attention to detail. I feel that they take pride in their work. They are a busy, successful company, so busy. But worth the wait. Very pleased with the results....

CertaPro Painters of Cincinnati West Side
David responded to my request for an estimate, and arrived as scheduled. He spent a lot of time talking about the company which was fine, and asked me to look thru a picture album he brought with him. He spend a lot of time looking the job over, and then indicated that he'd like to sit down with me and my husband to discuss the project. My husband was not available, and he would not discuss with just one party. So he said he'd put the estimate together and come back when both my husband and I were available. Would need about 15 mins. Most other painters I spoke to, will mail or email an estimate after the initial meeting, and/or were certainly willing to go over the estimate with me, alone. Then he sat in front of my house for about 45 mins before he finally left. I felt a lot of sales pressure with this encounter and wasn't ready to make any decision until I talked to others. He followed up with an email and I spoke of my concerns with him and told him I wasn't sure I wanted an estimate under the circumstances. He said if I change my mind to contact him. So last week I emailed him to setup a time to get together so he could present the estimate. No response. Again I attempted to contact him this week...No response.

    Versatile Painting and Construction Services
Matt came out within two days to evaluate the work and gave me a price that seemed very fair. Due to some very spotty rainy weather, the date was deferred until the weather cooperated with us. The work was done in a timely manner and very professionally.

    Lucky 7 Painting
Chris Helton and his crew did an excellent job.  They obviously know that paying attention to the prep work results in a better paint job.  Their carpenter, Will, came to the house first and replaced some wood and window frames.  Unrelated to the exterior work, I also had him  install  baseboard in our finished basement and help with moving and securing a large wooden bar.  After the carpentry work, the crew came to do pressure washing, scraping and caulking.  They painted two coats of paint on the wooden exterior of the house including the deck, gutters and doors.  I highly recommend them.
