Firewood Company reviews in Worthington

We ordered firewood from this vendor three times. Each time, the vendor was nice and stacked the firewood for us. The first delivery in 2013 seemed like a lot of unseasoned wood mixed in with seasoned. That first year I asked for "slightly" smaller pieces, but never indicated I had a wood stove or other need for very small wood. In 2014, the fall delivery seemed to be a little better, more seasoned wood and normally sized pieces (had not asked for smaller wood). We ran out mid-winter and got a second delivery. This half cord was terrible and I would have rejected it had I been home when they delivered. It was comprised entirely of bark and edge pieces. It seemed like we got the bottom of the barn floor delivered.  I called to complain and they said they'd "see what could be done." We never heard from them again; therefore, they will never hear from us again.

Called on Thursday at 1:00pm and got a simple, and quot;Hello?and quot; like he didn't recognize the number. (I'm a new customer so it's understandable, but a strange start.) I told him my name and that I was interested in getting some firewood delivered. He asked how much. I told him I wanted a half cord, then mentioned I was in Worthington. He said he was in Reynoldsburg. Confused, I asked if he'd deliver (since they list Worthington as a location on their Angie profile). He said it was an additional $10 for a total of $100. I said fine.

He told me to text my address, let him know if I wanted Saturday or Sunday delivery, then they would call me before the got here to let me know a time.

    Here's how the texting went:

Me @1:15pm Thursday - I think Sunday afternoon would be a good day for delivery. 1/2 cord [My address]. I'm [MyName]. $100 for good firewood.

    No confirmation, no replies, nothing.

Then on Sunday I slept in and hung around the house. No missed calls, no texts. Eventually I figured he'd forgot about me so I texted him again.

Me @ 3:34pm following Sunday - Are you still interested in delivering wood today?

Him @ 3:37pm - is this the one in Worthington

    Me @ 3:59pm - Yes.

Him @ 5:08pm - Guys are still out doing deliverys

I haven't heard anything about a reschedule or a call for some communication about additional business, nothing. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is here with this interaction it just seems really unprofessional and simply non-communicative. (Like calling a girl/guy that you quickly discover isn't interested in you. No big deal at a bar, but if you're trying to run a business...)

With a surcharge to deliver up here, it seems like he's not really interested, or maybe only at certain quantities. Either way putting that information up front might save everyone some time.

There is room for confusion here on both sides, but I figured I'd just look elsewhere after sharing my experience.

Norman was a pleasure to work with and we were very pleased with the work that was done.  He was very prompt to return phone calls and easy to communicate with.  He worked with us to be sure that we were choosing plants for our landscaping that we would be happy with in the long run.  He also followed up after the job to be sure everything was to our satisfaction.  When we mentioned a few little things that we would like done differently (change the curve in the edging of a bed, prune a couple bushes back a bit further), he sent someone out the very next day to take care of these things.  The people working with him were also very pleasant and everyone kept us informed of what was going on during the whole process.  His price may run on the higher side, but we feel that it is well worth it because we feel confident that we can depend on him to back up his work should we have any problems in the future or not be satisfied with the outcome.
We have also gotten wood from him twice in the past and it has been the best wood we have ever purchased and has always been stacked nicely (at the far back end of our lot - as we have requested!)

I called the number which was answered by a woman (perhaps the owner's mom?).  I asked about firewood and stacking.  She laughed a little at the stacking request and said she didn't know if he would want to do that.  But the owner called back and agreed and we set a date for a few days away.
They arrived on time and complained a little about stacking the wood but everything went fine.  Why offer stacking if you don't want to do it though?
Anyway, I ordered a cord and a half which was nicely stacked and they swept up the driveway.  Was very pleased with that part.  The wood is excellent, a good mix of woods and well split.  Burns nicely in the fireplace.  I will order from them again.  I had used Pitzer's the last two years, but they were a month out on delivery so that's why I called MAG.  The wood is just as good if not better than Pitzer's.

They were great. You get a lot of good firewood for not a lot of money. I called them late on a Friday and they were there the next day.  They showed up early on a Saturday morning without much advance notice. They were punctual, responsive, and professional. I would use this company again.

Norman returned my called in less than 24 hours and arranged to meet with me at 11:00 a.m. He arrived early and was very open to listen what we needed done. He made several excellent suggestions as to how to better enhance the front yard. He is very courteous and extremely proud of the work he does. He told me he would be back with his crew to do the work and they arrived just as he promised - on time. Norman and his crew spent almost all day working on the yard. The yard looks beautiful. Several neighbors passed by and congratulated him and us for such a great job. Norman is extremely professional and cares about the quality of his work. i will be calling Norman and his crew again next year to mulch and landscape again.

This is Angie's List at its best. After reading quite a few reviews of firewood providers, I selected Pitzer. My husband spoke on the phone with Norman Pitzer and the firewood was delivered within the hour. Mr. Pitzer called the next day to make sure everything was fine with us. The price was good, the service was outstanding and the wood itself burns nicely. We are very happy with this experience and recommend Pitzer to others.

Individual handling the office was pleasant and professional and arranged for delivery on the following day. The individual handling the delivery promptly called in the morning and gave me the estimated time of delivery. Firewood was delivered 20 minutes later, An excellent job all around.

While loading the firewood onto my truck - I asked the owner if this wood was "seasoned" - which means that it has been cut and split and allowed to dry 6 months to a year before being used in a fireplace. He assured me that the wood I was purchasing was seasoned and would burn well. I took the wood home and got it covered. I have tried to build several fires with this wood and it is clearly NOT seasoned. I use a gas log lighter in my fireplace and I have to keep the log lighter ignited for up to 2 hours to get a fire going. The wood is so wet it cracks and snaps and shoots sparks. I build a fire nearly every day from November till March - I know what seasoned firewood burns like. The owner of this company lied to me and sold me firewood that was recently cut/split and it turned out it was NOT seasoned.
