FANTASTIC! Definitely would use again. Steve Spaeth & Bill were a great team. Steve knows his stuff and does a great job of getting insulation added to every corner, even our vaulted ceiling. Despite the high temp of attics in summer and cramped quarters Steve works diligently to pay attention to the details that other contractors ignored, such as venting bathroom fans properly & not blocking air flow through attic vents. Not only will my home be warmer this winter for less, but I also expect an ice dam issue at the front entry to be eliminated. Money not only well spent, but reduction in energy costs will most likely pay for this improvement within a year. BEFORE YOU CALL ANY CONTRACTOR I highly recommend the home owner have an Energy Audit performed by their Gas Supplier (Columbia Gas charges $50, but with discount reduced to $25). When combining Angie's List discount, Columbia Gas rebates to Insulation company & home owner, as well as Federal Tax credit through IRS the bill for adding insulation was reduced by just under $1,000.00 ... AND THEN there will be the monthly reduction in heating/cooling costs. I had to change thermostat by 8 degrees due to house now having less energy loss.

Jerry came out on Friday morning, looked at and measured crawl space. Provided written estimate immediately and explained exactly what he was going to provide. I accepted his proposal and work was scheduled and finished on Monday. Work completed was exactly as described and a noticeable difference can be felt immediately. Just in time as the temps are dropping as I type this.

The service was excellent. Four people came and they were professional and worked hard. It took only two to three hours. They left the area spotless.  The individual who came to do the estimate was well informed and professional. I was very pleased with the whole experience.

My 1959 foundation had old construction techniques. The sill plate sealer was some old style material that I didn't recognize. The foundation had settled such that the sill wasn't uniformly flat across the top of the foundation blocks (I have a block wall foundation). In some places the sill sealer had gaps where I could see all the way to the outside! I found that mice were coming through this one gap as well. In other places there was no sill sealer at all and the sill plate was floating above the blocks. Similarly, the rim joist was warped enough to create gaps. This is a common situation for this old style construction. I also had penetrations for AC, gas, water, and telecom that weren't properly sealed. The previous owners had stuffed fiberglass batts into the rim joist cavities. I can't stress enough how wrong this is. There's a good reason why the recent code does not permit fiberglass batts in this area. There is no stopping water vapor from moving through the fiberglass onto the cold rim joist surface, then condensing into liquid water. When this happens mold grows on all those surfaces, both the wood and the fiberglass. I removed all the fiberglass batts, and cleaned up the areas. I found a slew of mouse home remnants amongst all the batts. Good riddance. I did a little foam sealing myself before Berry Insulation came over. I wanted to do this because I wanted to seal off all potential mouse entry points with the PestControl Great Stuff foam. Regular great stuff doesn't deter mice as they chew right through it. I knew that Berry Insulation's 2-part can wouldn't have the bitterant in the foam, so I had to get this in place before they sprayed all the large areas.
Don from Berry Insulation came out and started spraying. Research prior to this told me that the smell would be horrible and strong, but it really wasn't. I wore a respirator while down there, and it may not have been necessary. The smell was gone 15 minutes after spraying. It didn't permeate to the rest of the house at all. The job was quick and effective. The first round of foam was a little thin. The quote said 2 inches nominal, but after the first round I measured the depth in a few places and it was quite a bit lower than 2 inches. I asked Martin to have it touched up, and he sent someone out a few days later. The tech that came out ended up spraying the entire perimeter again, so I really got my money's worth. Berry Insulation also did some other air sealing tasks in addition to the spray foam of the rim joists. They sealed the plumbing stacks that connect to the attic. They also installed weather stripping on an egress door that I have in my basement.
The net effect of all this work was a reduction in the blower door leakage by 1000 CFM. I was really pleased with this. I had obtained price estimates from other vendors, but Berry was significantly lower, and I got more work done for that money than the others offered.
If anyone else is considering this, make sure you use closed-cell spray foam. It's imperative to stop water vapor migration onto the surface of the rim joist, because that surface is so close to the outside. Some vendors claim that open cell is adequate here, but that is incorrect. An open cell foam will allow water vapor to migrate where it should not be permitted to go.

    Barbera Home Improvement
They showed up at 7:30 in the morning with 12 guys. They did a complete tear off of the roof and additionally removed 28 sheets of plywood that had mold on them. Also, they completed the entire insulation on the roof and this portion of the project was done by 7:30 at night the same day. We had another problem with ice damns from the previous owners who didn’t finish the project correctly, so we had all that fixed as well during this time. The roofing project I would definitely give them 5 stars. So, we had this provider come out a 2nd time to replace the siding and gutters due to them doing such a great job on our roof, but the siding job I wouldn’t give it more than 4 stars tops, more like a 3.75 stars. They sent out a crew of 4 guys and came over a period of 4 days and tore down all the aluminum siding and then installed vinyl siding. An area around where the lights mount to the vinyl, none of it was caulked and it exposed everything underneath it. The same is true of an electrical outlet on the back of our house, which is the western side of the house, which takes the heavy brunt of the rain. It’s close to a ½ inch that is exposed. I know they put up a generic Tyvek which is to prevent water damage, but there are gaps that you can see behind the siding. On the 3rd evening they got in the trucks and headed out. The foreman said that he hadn’t finished caulking some of the window frames and that he would take care of it when they would return in the morning of the 4th day. I took him for his word, but I didn’t recognize it until a few months later that he had not caulked around the windows like he stated he would do. Also, I noticed after about a month later that one piece of aluminum around our garage door was cut too long, and appears that it had been pushed in the bottom, nstead of taking it down and re-cutting it to the correct size. In that same 2 feet where the aluminum wraps around the garage they didn’t put any nails in to secure it down so it is all popped up. The owner of the company did come out in person to inspect the roofing and did come out in person prior to the completion of the siding to inspect it and I did speak to him at that time. I contacted the business the following week to report an area that had appeared the siding was not flushed with the front door that it was deeper than the wood frame from the front door. I contacted the owner and he asked me did the siding crew leave you a few sheets of siding for future repairs and I told him nothing was left, which they had to have a truck come out and deliver 2 sheets of siding, and even when they were done they took that away. So we literally were not given any spare siding in case there is future damage that may occur. ( I would definintely use this provider in the future if need be for roofing, but probably not for the gutters or siding)

I followed up twice regarding scheduling.  They were swamped with scheduling. When they came out they were very thorough and punctual.  The report showed where the drafts are and a recommendation of service.  They indicated the ductwork had some leaks in it.  There’s a product they can inject into the ducts to seal them.

Provider offered an Angie's List Special for the evaluation.  This, of course, is a foot in the door offer to make contact with a possible customer.  The Service Technician did a great job showing me where heat loss was happening with a temperature scanner.  He followed this up by checking out my attic to give me an estimate for additional insulation to improve weather tightness in cold weather.  It was a very competent experience presenting the facts with no hard sell.

I have the estimate and I am considering having the work done.

Though the company said that they have called me and left me messages after initial contact, I have never received any calls from them while other vendors I purchased through Big Deals have no problems contacting me through phone calls.

The insulation work was completed in two days by a highly professional team of three workers. They went about their  business with utmost care and concern for  our house and our comfort. The exterior walls were insulated from the outside by drilling holes under the siding and blowing in the materials between the studs. What pleased me is that when completed, the outside of the house looked just like it did when they started. Inside work was done with the great care  and they did a great job of cleaning up when they finished. I can say we really enjoyed the men. They were friendly, courteous and fun to have around and explained exactly what they were doing. They really seemed to enjoy their work.
We especially appreciated our contacts with Alex Aviles who came to our home and gave us a complete rundown of the job. He is a real pro and a real gentleman. I felt completely confident in all of the information he provided and the work was done just as he outlined. He and the company has our highest recommendation

It went well. The courting process went well and the house is much warmer. There was one small miscommunication, but at no additional cost, they adhered to the agreement. They had excellent cleanup after the job was completed. They always arrived when they said they would.
