    Horrible experience!  I was debating whether or not to even post a review because dealing with Tom Schlund had become an exhausting nightmare.  After deciding to sign on to Angie's List one last time to cancel my membership, I felt it necessary to share my experience to possibly save someone else from a similar experience. 

    Long story short - after my roof was installed, the crew had to be called back to reattach my satellite dish that was left laying in my backyard and they had to replace a hose that was damaged.  I wish that had been the worst part of my experience.  However, I still had water pouring from my front porch.  A crew member cut a piece of the aluminum siding under the porch to "reroute" the water to the flower bed and proceeded to tell me that my whole roof needed to be replaced.  I questioned why I was not informed of this before they installed the new roof and I asked for pictures that I was promised and never received.  Oh, if I could only post pictures - THE ENTIRE PORCH WAS ROTTED AND THEY INSTALLED NEW WOOD ONTO THE ROTTED WOOD!!! However, I did not see these pictures until a week after the work was completed.  After a call to Tom Schlund - who admitted they dropped the ball - my bill was adjusted and they only thing Tom seemed concerned about is his image on social network.  Really??   When he wasn't able to prove what was replaced as far as wood, because no after pictures were taken - my bill was adjusted I didn't have to pay for the wood they did replace or the shingles on the front porch.  He felt this solved the problem, even though I told him I disagreed.  He knew this work was unacceptable.  I'm sure he wouldn't had been satisfied if this type of workmanship was done on his house and he was paying for it.  He failed to address the future problems this would cause me as well as the headache of having to start the process all over again.  My time is just as valuable as his.

    After mailing a partial payment and advising that I would send the balance after speaking with another company and my insurance company and an attorney - they put a lien on my house for non payment.  I NEVER REFUSED TO PAY THEM!!!  So now I have a whole new set of Franciscus problems.  Now I have to get an attorney involved and they accepted a balance slightly lower than they bill because they knew they messed up.  Again, wasting my time because your crew did a bad job! 

    Well, because this dragged on so late in the year and life went on for me, I had to wait until spring to start the process over.  I still have water leaking into my kitchen and now I have 12' of ridge caps missing as well as the front porch fiasco.  A worker was sent to inspect the roof for warranty coverage.  This inspector not only smelled of alcohol, he advised me several times that he was not a roofer, that he asked to be made project manager several times and seemed bitter that he hadn't gotten that title yet.  He also informed me that "not all of our crews do bad work like this".  Lucky me for getting the bad one.  It took over a week for someone to call back with results of the inspection.  However, if you ask Tom or Becky, they will say they tried to call, blah blah blah!  Never had a missed call on my phone, let alone a voice mail.  Unfortunately, you have lost all credibility with me.  At this point, I don't trust anything about this company.  So this same inspector - who is not a roofer - is sent out to replace the 12' of ridge cap that was obviously installed incorrectly as this should not happen in less than a year. 

    As far as the leak in the kitchen, Tom blamed an ice dam.  Being skeptical that the ice guard was installed correctly, I asked him to come and inspect it.  His reply was "I will not come out there and tear up and perfectly good roof".  Well, Tom, if I had a perfectly good roof, we would not have had contact after July 2, 2014 - however, this is not the case.  My front porch was a complete fail on your part.  My ridge caps were a complete fail on your part.  The ice guard over the kitchen was not installed correctly as I have photo proof from the company that did come out to repair it - to the tune of $ 1,200.  Another fail on your part.  And at this point, I am done.  I didn't even bother to call you after that repair because that is how much I don't want to do business with you. 

    My front porch ended up costing me over $ 11,000 - business that I would have originally given to Franciscus had they sent me the pictures of the rotted wood.  It wasn't until the 2nd company came to fix Franciscus's mistake did I see just how bad it was rotted.  They didn't seem surprised when I advised they were fixing a Franciscus botched job.  They supplied me with tons of pictures of everything that was done incorrectly.  The new wood that was attached to the old wood obviously changed the weight of the porch.  The top of the porch actually started pulling away from the house which caused the gutters to be pulled forward.  Water also kept going into the columns which had to be reinforced as well as reinforcement on the porch floor. 

    I was completely disappointed in your lack of professionalism and willingness to correct your errors.  Dealing with you became exhausting for me.  Shame on you for doing business this way.

    They arrived on time and did a decent job of cleaning up.  There was a problem found after they left with the gutter in the front.  I immediately called and they were back out the following work day to replace the gutter.  Now we need a decent rain to really test the work.

    Brian called earlier than was originally scheduled and gave us a very good estimate for the time of arrival. I was expecting to get a price/labor estimate and have them return to replace the gutter, but he said they could take care of it while they were there, using the original gutter. Keep in mind it was approximately 10 degrees outside and the wind was swirling around, making for miserable conditions. Within an hour or so the work was completed, and secured better than the original installation. I was concerned that there was  damage to the supporting structure because of the ice, but he told me that it was fine. He suggested that we have him return and do some shingle replacement and vent pipe flashing replacement once the weather breaks and gave me a reasonable cost estimate on that also.

    The price was reasonable, the work was good. However, the communication amongst the various employees (estimator, workers, owner, and billing) was very lacking which became a real hassle.  It was all worked out in the end but was not handled proffesionaly.

    They weren’t punctual and they pretty much did some damage in my property.  The price was considerate.  The guy kept calling off on me.  We had a lot of issues with these people.  The owner Mike Murphy was great but the fellow that actually did the work showed up late and took off multiple days and we had a lot of issues.   We had all the issues and went back to them and eventually finished the work myself.

    The guys were knowledgeable, courteous, neat, and delivered beyond what they even promised. The little things were paid attention to. Timelines were met while on site, and they were great to have around. The final price was exactly what was agreed to up front and the clean up was better than we planned. Thanks Home Exteriors for a job well done. Our home exterior literally looks new and we are thankful!  I would not hesitate to recommend Home Exteriors to any and all!
