Excavating reviews in University Heights

    GOOD EARTH Excavating
I regularly deal with contractors of all types. Without a doubt, this has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a contractor. First of all his contract requires half of the money upfront, but then he didn't show up for another 4 or 5 weeks. He started the job so late that it was snowing. Since his contract doesn't include grading (which is another way of getting paid before the job is complete) I had to wait until May the following year. I had to constantly call to get him to show up. He rarely returns phone calls. Getting a straight answer out of Mark is almost impossible! He never finished the paperwork with the City so they wrote me a letter a year after he was "finished" and told me that the job was done incorrectly. He emptied the storm line into the sanitary line. Only after sending him a letter (good luck getting an address from him that isnt a PO Box) and calling him for weeks, did he finally show up and correct his mistake. He goes where the money is and if you have to wait he could care less. Now after one year I have do redo the clean up and reseed. I wished I never met Mark or Good Earth Excavating. Stay Away and do yourelf a favor.

    Sitework Developing Inc
Sitework Development Inc was one of a number of companies we looked at to replace a storm sewer drain that had been connected to our sanitary sewer lateral pipe. This was not in compliance with current regulations. To address this, the work required a connection to a new storm lateral that ran approximately 80 feet across our front yard and through a flower bed where several plants and a mature Japanese tree were growing. Other firms offered completely unacceptable approaches to address our problem. James B the firm's general manager confidently proposed a solution that was efficient and effective. We were blown away by the professionalism, effectiveness and friendliness of the team he assigned to work with us. They worked meticulously; tying off trees in their path, avoiding gas lines and repairing underground irrigation lines. The team left the work site clean each day with hardly a trace from the street that they were working. Our hats off to the Ryan and Carl in this regard. The entire project took less than a week. None of our plants were damaged. Our beloved Japanese maple still stands. Now we have a new drain compliant with the regulations. This was an excellent experience. We highly recommend this company.

    Adelios Contracting Co
Adelio's is the best when it comes to waterproofing. They are professional and reasonable and they won't recommend services you don't really need (which many waterproofing companies out there will). The crew works hard and cleans up everything when done. Highly recommend.

The crew was fantastic, prompt every day and left the work site in perfect condition. They moved some of the landscaping in order to hand dig around the house and when they were finished placed every shrub in place as if they had never been there. They told me it would take a week to complete the work. They came Monday morning and were completely finished on Friday afternoon. I couldn't recommend Adelio's more highly.

We expected the work to be done in late June, but much to our surprise and pleasure, Adelio's was able to do the work starting on the second Monday of the month. We were amazed at how quickly the excavation around the house was completed, and how neat the crew was. They sealed the foundation with an elastometric membrane and two inch foam sheets. By Thursday morning, the bed of river gravel had been laid and the new drain tiles and access pipes were installed. The city inspection was completed later that morning, and Adelio's received the OK to begin the back fill. They filled the trenches with gravel up to 18 inches below grade where there was dirt, and to just below grade where new concrete was to be poured. By 2:00 Friday afternoon, all of the dirt had been replaced, as well as the bushes and shrubs they had to remove. Saturday morning, the concrete crew was at the house bright and early, and three and a half hours later, the complete job was finished. Except for areas of the lawn that needed to be reseeded, you couldn't even tell we had any work done. The concrete work was also amazing. The job was expensive - Adelio's was the most expensive quote we received - but based on references we found and information we received from sources at our city, we went with them. And needless to say, we are very happy with the results. Last week we had heavy rains, and there wasn't a drop of water in our basement. Jason, the job foreman, and Sergio, the president of Adelio's, were both very professional and a real pleasure to work with. The Adelio's crew were very conscientious about how they kept the job site. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Adelio's was fantastic from start to finish. We realized we needed to waterproof one whole side of our house after we noticed some water coming in by the fireplace. After calling, Sergio came out and gave a quote promptly and wasn't pushy like another company I quoted with. Then, he was flexible when we asked to shift around the dates of the work to accommodate my wife's schedule. The job was completed in 3 days, all of which were brutally cold and snowy. The crew was pleasant and took care to preserve all the landscaping so that when it was done, it looks like the area was barely disturbed. Even the ADT signs were put back right where they belonged. Then, Sergio followed up shortly thereafter to ensure that everything was done to my satisfaction and to answer any questions. You can't ask for much more than a competitive price, a crew who shows up when they are supposed to, and high-quality work. I would definitely recommend Adelio's to all my friends and neighbors.

Chubb Construction and Basement Waterproofing Inc
The good, the bad, and the ugly: 1) We are 100% satisfied with the waterproofing work: the crew was knowledgeable and thorough, and they saved our window wells. 2) We were misled as to the extent of damage that would be caused by the work. They said they could save most of the landscaping but the crew on day 1 said that was impossible. Lots of sandstone breakage was not anticipated - I ultimately had to pay a contractor to pull up a patio and relay it to spare it from destruction. 3) Extra costs I incurred with other contractors rectifying landscape and patio damage made this project up to 140% of Chubb's price. That said, I would hire them again, but would go into it with eyes opened and prepared for extra costs.

Too early to tell if the waterproofing has completely worked but I suspect it has. They backfilled the ditch with small gravel to ensure good drainage and then made sure to grade the topsoil away from the house. Sewers are working great! Driveway is a major improvement.

They took care to keep my yard in good shape and cleanup was done quickly and thoroughly. I think this was a very thorough job done by professionals.

I can't say enough good things about the crew. They arrived everyday on time and worked hard. The crew chiefs took time to explain things to me and my wife. The workmen were pleasant to be around and seemed to enjoy the attention my 3 yr old grandson.

If I had any questions or issues, Sergio or Alex would get right back to me. I must say I was astonished at this level of customer service. It is really great. They exceeded my expectations !

Excellent work - very informative and patient with my questions about the work. Took photographs of the job as requested. Cleaned up very well and returned my property to the same condition as found. Highly recommended.

Took a while for company to catch up from last year's massive rains, but company stayed in touch which I appreciated. UNBELIEVABLE amount of work and man hours to complete correctly! Took 2.5 days to do the one driveway side (plus concrete drying) but the men worked VERY hard, took great care doing things properly, explained things as much as I asked, and I feel I got a professional, top notch job for a fair and reasonable price. I even got an Angie's List discount of $100! I definitely chose the right company!
