    Textbook Painting
Sometimes there is a thing as too cheap. My wife and I moved into our house within the past year and I have repainted every room. The last room left is a 30ft foyer that I was unable to do by myself due to not have the proper equipment. We received a quote from textbook painters and it came in 200$ cheaper than local competitors. We were told that the painting would start in 2-3 weeks and were shooting for early July of 2017. Communication was lacking the entire time and after many phone calls later the date kept getting pushed back until finally we had the painters arrive in mid August. The painters came and started painting immediately on a Friday. In our contract they stated they would paint the ceiling, walls, and all trim in our Foyer twice. After about 2 hours of painting the painters started to pack up and came to us to inspect their work. My honest review of their painting is it looked like a 10 year old took a paint roller and went to town. The walls were 50% covered with the new paint and 50% covered with the old paint. Half the trim was painted and the other half was still the original color. Lastly the ceiling looked like it was painted by a blind man. They did not cut in the edges of the ceiling and tried to roll the entire ceiling without cutting in, using an extension poll. I was so upset with the work that I called the boss and another boss was sent out to inspect the work and try and fix things. The work was so bad that they had to come out the following Monday to re pint the foyer and the ceiling. After the second time around things did look much better but there was still much of the trim unfinished and unpainted spots on the wall. When the painters left I spent the next 5 hours re painting all the trim that was missed , along with touching up the many spots on the walls that they neglected to fix. If all of the previous wasn't bad enough, they went outback of my house and started using the hose I had rolled up out back. They cracked the hose faucet and proceeded to leave the hose painted in the color of our foyer walls. Needless to say I had quite a horrible experience and if you can afford to get someone else to paint your house, I would highly recommend not hiring textbook painters. I must say their upper management did try to help the situation but if you have painters and middle management that does not care about their final product then more than likely your walls are going to look horrible.

Mr. Handyman of East Solon and Aurora Areas
They did great. It is one of those situations that doesn't cost much. I called them and they sent somebody the next day. He came in and did a great job. I had somebody come and change my bulbs. When he tripped he fell down and his foot hit the drywall. That is an element I had to deal with. They came on time.

    JM Design Build
JM Design Build far exceeded our expectations with the entire process. While vetting several builders in the Cleveland area, JM shot up to the top of our list for a couple of reasons. My brother-in-law used JM to do a remodel of their kitchen/dining room, and I was very impressed with the quality of their work. I was also impressed by how responsive and courteous they were with their replies. You'll be shocked at how prompt the responses are. I don't like to bother people on the weekend, but that didn't stop JM from providing me details and info during the weekends, when I wasn't expecting it. We were very happy how accessible Kevin the owner was during the entire process. They were very easy to communicate with and treated us with patience as we went back and forth with questions regarding the scope of the project, and trying to fit within our budget. We determined JM Design was our builder of choice because: 1. They were very responsive, courteous, and up front with all the information we were looking for 2. The quality of their work was easy to see with pictures from their website, and seeing the work they provided for a family member 3. Their price was fair compared to other quotes we received (Not the cheapest, but weve made the mistake with going with the cheapest too many times). 4. We had a very unique and challenging design in our minds. Rather than suggesting less complicated or easier designs, JM loved the idea, and confident they could make it a reality 5. They invested the time to respond to dozens of email/text questions/concerns and made several trips to our home to help us discover the best plan for the budget we had Once we signed the contract and started the build, I was surprised that JM Design Build continued to treat us like they were earning our business, as other contractors we've used didn't seem to be as pleasant once they secured the business. As each working day would end, JM's team would clean up the job site, leaving it secure, and removing any hazards, which allowed my family to continue using the back yard, and my dog to run around without the threat of stepping in anything that could hurt him. These guys were very flexible during the build as we wanted to make last second minor changes, Kevin the owner worked with us to provide multiple options, and worked with us to provide multiple drawings of the project so we can get it right. JM was very diligent while working with our city to follow very specific building codes, and inspections. We cannot say enough about the building team. It didnt take long for the experience and expertise of their carpenter Neil to show, as the small details of the project were very impressive. Our neighbor went out of her way to tell me how she was impressed with how detail oriented the build team was. She said, I knew you were going to get a quality product because how detailed everyone was being. Kevin the owner pointed out a couple of things that he thought werent perfect and that we didnt even notice, and they would fix. My wife and I are extremely happy with the final product. We were expecting the worst based on our previous experience with multiple builders, but we ended up with the best. JM Design Build finished our project on time, and never once came to my wife and I asking for more money than we agreed on. In fact I know they had to make additional fixes they werent planning on, because of mistakes or poor work done by the previous builder of the deck. JM Design Build IS THE FIRST builder/contractor that my wife and I are happy to refer. Thank You, Dan Curran 29curran29@gmail.com

    The Basement Guys - Cleveland
Very professional, always business-like but personable no matter who I dealt with. Salesman was very knowledgeable about options to consider for the basement finishing -- honest. The installer was flexible and added his own attention to details, recommending minor changes or improvements in a couple of places. Overall experience was excellent, they seemed to look out for their customers' interests during the process.

    Hansen Restoration Inc
This was the first time our family of perfectionist DIY-ers has ever hired anyone to do this type of work for us.  But, I live in Cincinnati, and needed a large guestroom built into my parents' home in Northeast Ohio -- there was no way to do it ourselves.
I pride myself on exhaustive research, and had obviously planned to get 3 estimates before hiring any company.  Using Angie's List as a guide, I contacted a few places, and heard from Hansen Restoration within 30 minutes of my initial e-mail.  This first contact played a large part in our hiring Hansen.  Sean was incredibly personable, and very informative.  We set up a meeting for the following week, and Jim Hansen (the owner) came to do a walk-through and discuss the project with me.  I was extremely impressed with his professionalism and honesty.  I knew immediately that these guys were the right fit, and I hired them without getting any other estimates.  (Understand that this is CRAZY behavior for me!)
I am an artist/designer, and am very particular regarding aesthetics.  Everyone at Hansen was a dream to work with, and they were very patient with all of my questions.  Devin Hansen was the project manager for our job, and he was ALWAYS available to answer questions or help solve a problem.  They told me how long the job would take, and actually finished earlier than expected.  I decided to add some extra work, and Devin had the supplemental invoice ready within an hour of our discussing it.
But I must now sing the praises of Tomasz, the one who spent each day with us, working on what turned out to be a gorgeous room.  This man is almost superhuman in his speed and craftsmanship.  Even my father, in whose house the work was being done, was impressed with Tom -- and my father is not easily impressed.  Not only did he do a beautiful job, he was such a delight.  I felt like crying when we said goodbye to him on the last day.
I can't speak highly enough of Hansen Restoration.  We were so lucky to find them, and I would recommend them 100 times over.  Sean, Jim, Devin and Tom were all wonderful!  And I got a swanky guest suite, with alcoves and cozy nooks, for a very reasonable price.  I can't complain about a thing!

    Akron Granite Countertops
I have remodeled multiple kitchens because it is in my line of work.  I have used Kamal and Elma (Akron Granite) on at least 5 jobs.  They have installed bathroom vanity tops and kitchen counter tops for me at various jobs.  I have used other installers in the past but I prefer to use Akron Granite.
This specific install was time sensitive, so I picked out the granite early and had it waiting at his shop. As soon as the cabinets were installed, Kamal did the template and they installed the counter tops in about 1 week.  It's this sort of service that sets them apart.
I remember on their first job, they were a few hundred bucks more than another installer on the quote, but I wanted to give them a shot because the other installer was kinda shady.  I am glad that I did because they have become an asset to my team.  Kamal and Elma may not be the cheapest installer that you get a quote from, but they do an exceptional job and I know that he will pickup the phone if we have a problem.

    Creative Painters
They were able to get us in with little notice to get work done while there was still some warm weather left. Painter went the extra mile by securing some loose trim before it became a bigger issue and applying a second coat where needed. Quality of work and products was top notch.

    American Wood Reface

We met Jason at the Great Big Home & Garden Show on 2/13/15 and discussed what we were looking for and the timeframe we needed it done.  It does take quite a bit of time from when they come out to when it is complete, but we just needed it done by June so it was not an issue.

Mary Jo came out on 3/6/15 to discuss what we wanted and give an estimate. She brought many samples to choose from for the cabinets, hardware and countertop. She was very helpful with making suggestions and discussing possible solutions for our "problem" corner cabinet.  When we decided on everything she did her paperwork and came up with the cost of the project. She didn't play any "guess the price" games as others had done, it was their price and it was a fair price. Also, we weren't pressured into committing at that time, we could call them when we decided.  I like the no pressure, no games approach and we decided to go forward with the project.

Jason came out on 4/6/15 to do the measurements for everything and go over the project with us. He made some suggestions for adjustments to our original thoughts on the "problem corner cabinet" which we agreed with and decided to go with to optimize our space. On 4/20/15 the Custom Design Countertop guy came out to measure the countertop. Our countertop was kind of a problem because the old one went over the tile and the new one was going under the tile.

The actual project got started on 5/10/15 and was completed on 5/18/15. This included the cabinets and the countertop guys scheduling around each other so everything went in smoothly. The only small hitch was that my husband noticed where the tile was removed next to the stove, the new backsplash didn't cover the unfinished wall.  He also wanted the countertop by the stove a bit wider so stuff didn't fall down in between the countertop and stove or refrigerator on the other side. Jason came out and looked it over to make adjustments.  The countertop guy came out on 5/22/15 and installed the new backsplash and countertop piece.   Project complete!

I love my new kitchen and have gotten many compliments on how it looks!  The new cabinets make my little kitchen look bigger and brighter.  I especially love the way the corner cupboard was redone. I've gained space and can easily access all my pots and pans that I now store there. I also love that the cupboards and drawers don't squeak!   It is a high quality kitchen renovation at a reasonable price!

All the employees that we dealt with were highly professional, very experienced and extremely customer friendly.  I highly recommend this company if you are looking to have your kitchen refaced.

    Thiel's Home Solutions

I saw their display at the Cleveland Great Big Home & Garden show and filled out a card for them to contact me to do an estimate. They promptly called and the estimate was set-up for 2/27/15. Michael Gehrisch was running about 15 mins late and was courteous enough to call and let us know.  He was very polite, sociable and professional.  He did a thorough job of measuring all the cabinets and shelving that we wanted refaced/replaced.  He showed us a video of the product manufacturing and demonstrated the durability of the cabinet doors.  There were many options to choose from as far as style and color.

We settled on what we liked and he proceeded to run the numbers. The one thing we didn't think of was the Toe Kick along the bottom of the cupboards.  He asked if black was ok, but we wanted oak to match the rest.  They didn't have oak, so we said black would be ok though I don't think I would've liked it.

This is where I had a problem with Thiel's and it had nothing to do with Michael, it is the company itself that has this practice. We were asked to guess how much it would cost.  We didn't want to guess, we just wanted a price, however I guessed $15,000 (this being our 1st estimate).  The price came out to $18,022 but the factory pricing is $16,201 plus we had a $500 off coupon which put us at $15,701 (for 30 days).  We also were asked to read a paper they had explaining that it costs them money to do return visits and if we signed today we would get an initial visit discount.  So if we signed that day it would be $14,445.

Being a large cost project and being the first estimate and only product I'd seen I wanted to wait to get my other estimates and products to look at before committing.  In my opinion, expecting a customer to make that big of a decision so quickly is not putting the customer first.  Return visits cost money and that is part of business.  I like companies that don't play games, just give me their best honest price and let me decide what I want to do on my time schedule. This type of marketing must work for a lot of people but it's not for me.  But again, Michael did do a very good job otherwise.
