  I was scheduled for surgery on 8/9 after having a colonoscopy on 8/7. I went in to the hospital and was greeted immediately and walked to my department. After checking in I waited about 5 minutes and was called back. Everything was done quickly and I was leaving in the amount of time predicted. The doctors and nurses were great and I would definitely recommend!

  I spent 2 weeks as a patient there. I had severe double pneumonia and had to be intubated for 3 days to allow my lungs to heal. During my time there, I was reminded every day that I had to leave ASAP because I was a Veteran on Veterans Disability Pension. They were worried that the VA would not pay them, I guess. Dr.Timothy A Hric, D.O who worked for the admin, as well as being a lung doctor, came in to see me and did his best to make sure that I knew that I would be out of there ASAP. We actually had a discussion about the VA and the hospital "business" while I was in ICU, right after I came out of the intubation. Talk about making you feel welcome! Other than being made to feel like a homeless person, my stay there wasn't too bad. The nursing staff was there when I called about 95 percent of the time. As any hospital, there were some excellent nurses and some that really should find another line of work. Jan was my favorite. She really made me feel like a human being and made my stay there tolerable. I developed a bed sore on my back side and I was ordered a special air mattress to help me heal faster. The food, once I was able to eat, was actually not to bad. Salem Hospital recently got a food service in there that allows the patients to order their food like in a restaurant and order it at just about any time. Really convenient when you just get admitted.
