    I've been in and around the real estate profession my entire life, so you'd think we'd have a go-to list of contractors to tackle a project as large as this one and hire without hesitation. Unfortunately, very few have separated themselves from the pack for me to rely on for work on our home and I was increasingly skeptical and anxious going into the hiring process. I feel very fortunate to have found Mike Dubiel and North Shore Build. Mike's attention to detail, thoroughness, and clear communication made this basement project seamless and stress-free. I would recommend him 100 times out of 100 and look forward to the next project. I included before/after pictures so you can see for yourself:

    Best project to date! I plan on using this contractor for my bathroom remodel. I often find that contractors do not give reliable estimates and start and end dates. Not the case here! He started exactly when he said he would, provided great advise on materials needed. Extremely professional; you will not be disappointed.

    He was fine, he was a very straight shooter.

    He was very upfront and honest, but in the end decided not to get the foundation waterproofed again.  I realized that waterproofing wasn?t the best solution thanks to his advice.

    The job went very well and I couldn't be happier.  Ray was very responsive to my calls.  He came and surveyed my basement one day and sent me an estimate over e-mail.  We then scheduled the 2 day job.  Ray and his crew were very professional.  They were punctual each day.  Along the way of the tear out, Ray provided advice as to what to do, what should stay, what should go and how to alleviate future basement related problems.  They they vacuumed really good throughout the ceiling and got into the nooks and crannies where mice may go.  As you can imagine, the tear out was a pretty nasty job dealing with rodent droppings, etc, but they did it all with no mess left over from the tear out.  On the day of the cleaning, Ray's crew washed all floor surfaces, wall surfaces, ceiling and vent work, appliances, window wells, and the air/furnace unit.  Ray even performed extra jobs of sealing my laundry room area floor and also cleaning out a crawlspace in an upstairs bedroom.  The job went as planned and the total cost was the amount of the estimate provided.  I would definitely use Ray's Cleaning again.

    Overall, we were pleased with the service that JMAC provided.  We got several estimates and theirs was exactly the same as some of the others, so we felt comfortable with the cost of the job.  Jim and Doug were on the job together and were conscientious and even fun to have around.  They worked very hard, did not ever slack off, and were responsive to requests.  The weather was unpleasantly warm and humid and they continued work at full speed in spite of the unavoidably uncomfortable conditions in the basement. They also cleaned up the job site every night to the best of their ability.  Drywalling is messy and they tried hard to contain the dust and respect our property.  They used drop cloths and plastic sheeting.  While Jim and Doug provided excellent service, there were two areas we think could have been improved: (1) we were not fans of the electrician who installed the lighting.  We found his attitude to be the opposite of the always positive, helpful tone we experienced with Jim and Doug. This electrician caused some minor damage to furniture in the room and denied it. Further, he cut a hole in the laundry room wall to pull wires and neither patched it nor called it to our attention so we could ask Jim or Doug to fix it.  We requested that this electrician not return to our home and so Jim willingly completed the finish work for us. (2.) Although Jim and Doug are excellent drywall installers and we are delighted with the smooth surface of the new ceiling, we have noticed some areas where the paint is slightly thin and not as even as we would have preferred.  We noticed these areas after the job was completed and the workmen left.  We did not request any repainting after the job. The repainting we did request during the job was done quickly and graciously. As stated at the beginning, this was a positive experience and we are happy with the results.  Our ceiling looks great and the room is very improved. We would confidently hire JMAC/Jim again and would recommend him to friends.

    Cleveland Glass Block/Cleveland Window Co and Bath Dr. did very good. He kind of discouraged us. He thought what we already had in the basement was fine. We were doing it to get more energy savings, but he said it would not really make that much of a difference in saving energy. It wouldn't be worth our while. He was very honest and nice. There was nothing I didn't like about him.

    TenPoint was very pleasant to work with throughout the entire project.  Brian conducted the initial bidding and quotation, and the project started about 3 weeks after acceptance of the quotation.  Adam and Dave arrived to kick off the effort and performed most of the work there after.  The initial phases - tear-down, rough-framing, electrical, HVAC and plumbing proceeded very quickly. Progress slowed a bit when finish work started because we purchased most of those items (vanity, fixtures, countertop, lavatory, tiles) separately. 
    Adam was great at bringing things to my attention as the project moved along that he thought might be considered "while we were doing some other item x."  Though these change requests ended up adding about 10% to the total cost of the project, these items were realistic given that it was reasonable to expect a few surprises when working on a 70 year-old house. 
    In the end, these guys did a great job of creating a wonderful living space.  Their attention to detail really shows in the quality of their finish work.  Everyone who worked on the project was pleasant and professional.  I have to explain the "B" on the Responsiveness category - Adam is very focused on the quality of his work, and spent a lot of time making sure that everything was just right.  However, in the midst of that focus he sometimes lost sight of some of the paperwork and feedback needed as the project progressed.  It all worked out well for both of us in the end - we are pretty aggressive record-keepers, and let Adam focus on the work at hand.

    My basement was old an outdated and I decided to do a little renovation. I was originally going to put up new drywall, install new carpet, and add recessed lighting in the recroom area. I was going to source each of these services from separate providers. I called JFE to provide a drywall estimate and once Ed and I got to talking, I learned he could provide all of these services himself. I'm a first time homeowner and Ed really helped me identify and understand all of the variables that go into a room remodeling. I felt much more comfortable having one person quarterback the project rather than have three separate contractors working independent from one another.
    There is really no other way to put this - Ed Janesz is just a really great guy. I'm normally very apprehensive when contractors enter my home because I always feel like I'm being gouged on price and/or the amount of services I actually need performed. Ed's a straight shooter. Throughout the entire process he gave me a plethora of options to choose from for each aspect of the project and never pressured me to go one way or the other. Probably my favorite part about working with Ed is that he itemized EVERYTHING down to the dollar. By understanding the price pressure points of the project, I was able to get the remodeling work I desired within budget.
    Ed's professionalism is unmatched, in my opinion. He showed up on time every single day and was clean and courteous throughout the whole process. He used a couple of subcontractors and you can tell Ed has vetted these guys over the years because their work ethic and professionalism was on par with JFE. When the project started, I was in Europe and Ed came over everyday and worked diligently while I was gone. He even sent regular emails providing me with updates on the project. He kept me in the loop the entire time. The project was completed on time and at the exact price Ed quoted me when we started. The quality of his work was excellent.
    I'm sure you're wondering if Ed is a relative or paid me to write this gushing review. I assure you that is not the case. Ed exceeded my expectations in every way and has earned future business from me down the road.
