General Contracting reviews in Rocky River

It went well, mainly because of the good communication from the owner, the office and the crew. I felt they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with our new floors. I liked that they call each morning to let you know when they will arrive, and that were friendly and efficient. I would hire them again.

Jimmy and his crew have always performed excellent work at reasonable prices which is why All Star Services & Repair, LLC continues to be my #1 choice for any handyman work needed at my home or rental properties, and I am happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a handyman for jobs large or small.

I met with Mr. Hoffman twice to discuss a general remodel project for a Living room/Dining room area and a foyer. He is a very kind man and his prices are competitive. I chose not to pursue the project because Mr. Hoffman just seemed a bit too disorganized for my taste. On our second meeting, he basically rehashed the details of our first and provided me with a general contract, which was the only difference from the first meeting. I had asked him to supply examples of materials we could use for the floor, baseboard and crown molding, and he brought a couple of poorly printed images and nothing else. I declined to sign the contract after thinking about it for a weekend and took the work elsewhere. In summary, nice guy, good prices, a bit scattered.

John was exceptional on every level. I am in contracting myself and have performed almost every trade myself, so I have a pretty good eye for quality. I was able to source all of the materials myself and have John implement the plan. John not only followed the drawings and instructions closely, but he offered many ideas of his own and improvements on my plans. He has a good eye for design and quality. None of the changes added to my cost. John communicated very well through-out, usually via texts, which was perfect because I have a busy job.

John showed up on the agreed-upon day and finished on schedule. We had agreed on a not-to-exceed budget. We had some give and take with reductions in John's scope, but also some adds and improvements. John was very fair and we stayed within budget. John had challenges with performing so much heavy work in a fully occupied building. Many neighbors were difficult to work around, but John handled everyone professionally and courteously. He cleaned up all public areas everyday and left everything clean and tidy.

In summation, I could not rate Desborough Construction more highly. His costs are not cheap, but they're fair. Get on his schedule if you can.

The roof over the garage storage area was completely rotted.  I had gotten several estimates before I came across Home Exteriors on Angie's list.  One company said I should tear off the structure completely because he didn't know how to address the roof  problems (it was an addition to the garage).  Gary was confident that they could replace the roof without any trouble.  Additionally, I had three skylights that  leaked for years. Gary said his company specialized in skylights.  So he included the replacement of the skylights in the roof job.  One of the skylights was completely rotted due to improper installation.  Home exteriors replaced the damaged wood and cleaned up what they mold!   The roof had three layers which was torn off and replaced.  I also had new gutters installed.  Once Gary notified me the job was finished.  I took a look around and found a few things I wanted changed...mostly due to aesthetics.  I sent him pictures of the items I wanted changed.  He said.."No problem" and first the thing next morning his crew was back on the job!  They stayed until I was completely satisfied.  The crew was hard working, accommodating and did an awesome job with the clean up afterwards.  One night they worked in the dark!
I highly recommend Home Exteriors.  Gary is very easy to work with and his price was very good.  Thanks for a great job Gary and crew!

8/28/14-Update-a week after my new roof was installed we had an extremely heavy rain.  As I was sitting in my family room I heard the dreaded...drip..drip.  Yes, the roof was leaking..UGH.  It started in the corner then traveled the length of a beam (cathedral ceiling).  I immediately sent Gary a text of what was happening.  He promptly returned my call and sent two guys out to see what was the problem.  They looked at the area and said it was a gutter problem.  That it was not sloped correctly.  They removed the gutter and did a water test, however, the roof still leaked.  So the next day they sent out a crew and removed that section of shingles and repaired that area, plus they re-positioned the gutter.  The area that leaked was an addition to the original structure.  I did advise Home Exteriors when I obtained an estimate that I had that area repaired a few years back but that it still leaked on occasion, hence one of the reasons for getting a new roof.  While they have always been VERY responsive, I felt that the quality of work was not an "A" rating and lower it to "C" average.  I realize anyone can make a mistake and they were very apologetic.  Unfortunately, now I am concerned about the overall workmanship of the job.  There hasn't been a heavy rain since so I don't know if it will happen again..

Lou did a very nice job replacing the siding on my home.  He was attentive to details and did good quality work.  He did a good job of communicating with me during the work.  The job came in slightly under budget, and I was satisfied with the overall value I received.

The fellow (Mike Rosipko) arrived on time and did all the prep work. He then crafted a beautiful wood gate for my yard. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. It was all done quickly and perfectly. He then hung an item for me (that I could NEVER have done properly). I would use this company again. I was so impressed by the efficiency and quality of the work. Mike was super and had really good suggestions.

I initiated contact with Homework before Hurricane Sandy.
I think it took 2 phone calls/messages left to get the first call back from his wife in the office to set up the free estimate.
Bad timing, we scheduled the free estimate on a day that the hurricane hit Cleveland.  The consultation had to be pushed back 2 days until we and Homework had our power restored.
Jim was friendly enough, and I was sure that we wanted to work with him.  He gave a quick scan of what the project entailed and said he would prepare an estimate and get back to us.  He also saw that we were going to be doing new flooring and a tile backsplash.  He asked if we wanted his help with those projects too.  We said "maybe" once we reexamined our budget and knew how moving the cabinets was going to go.
Jim never got back to us with the estimate.  I left 4 voicemails at the office and never received a return contact.  I was really disappointed because I really wanted to work with him.  But I couldn't spend weeks begging him to come do the work for us.  I'm assuming the project was "too small" that he just didn't have time to help us in the aftermath of the storm, but that would have been nice to know at the time.

The overall process went extremely well.
Drake recently relocated back to the Cleveland area (where he grew up) from Seattle.
A cousin of mine in Seattle had hired Drake Built Construction for major remodelling at her home.
She recommended him highly, so I knew he MUST do a good job.
Drake Miller is polite, cordial, very knowledgeable about all aspects of the job.
Provided  a complete breakdown of charges and all the receipts were
provided for materials needed for the job.
The work area was put in order at the end of every  work day.
There were no interuptions in completing my bathroom, in other words,
once the job was started, the work continued until it was done.
Mr. Miller did a great job on my  bathroom, he is obviously  a talented and skilled
carpenter, tile installer, general contractor, all around handyman who knows his job well.
He cleaned up beautifully when the job was complete, removing all the debris from the old bathroom to the tree lawn for garbage pick-up, plus hauling some of it in his truck.
