AImage Line Design Inc.John designed a vacation home for us approximately two years ago, and did a great job. He was responsive, and had a lot of good ideas that added to the home. The home was finished about nine months ago, but the builder we hired didn't follow the plan in two or three areas, causing a number of problems with the home (why can't they just follow the plan???!!!). However, John was good enough to review the plans and make a number of suggestions to fix the problems. He reviewed numerous pictures I sent and spent a good deal of time coming up with solutions, never asking for additional compensation. It is wonderful to find someone like him in this day and age, and I would not hesitate to use him again!- Lu V.

AFAITH CONSTRUCTIONI have used Bruce (Faith Construction) several times at our home in Lakeside. Two projects were relatively small inside remodel projects but we also had him replace our roof. In all three cases, the work was very good and the price was fair. He is extremely professional and communicates well. I would recommend him to family or friends.- AARON S.

ARAYMOND J SCHAEFER INCNotr: The RJS company has been awesome to work with. Raymond and his crew have completely replaced the electrical, heating, and complete remodel of the interior 2500 sf home built in 1894. Raymond is like an orchestra conductor... scheduling his crew, so they can do the work on my house, and he'll have other jobs for them on the island to split ferry and dumpster costs. From the roof to the foundation, this sad house needed lots of work. The previous owners had left almost two dumpster loads of trash, rusted appliances, and junk in the house. They also put Brady Bunch style paneling over rich woodwork and made haphazard alterations and awkward repairs. The house was a wreck before RJS started work. Raymond has helped restore the rooms, plaster and rich oak and pines floors to their prior elegance. His painter uses historically accurate paint for the rooms, and upgrading the electrical system was no easy task. The previous owners had swicthed the white and black wiring, and left water leaks to go unchecked. Raymond marshalled an awesome crew to fix the water issues, roof issues, and electricians to make the house safe. Weve refinsihed the radiators and restored missing trimwork and crown molding. His plumber has installed new bathrooms while using period fixtures and lighting. His painter is going to work closely with my architectural historian from U of M next year to paint the detailed outside trimwork and whole house, next year. Raymond has his own crew and a selection of reliable sub-contractors fro specialized work, like HVAC. His carpenters were able to match trim work to original colors. I was able to buy salvaged Victorian doors and stained glass windows from Victorian suppliers, and Raymonds carpenters are able to incorporate them to replace missing and rotted existing pieces. Be paitent though working with the ferries and scheduling work if you have a house on the island. The work has taken a number of months, but because the extensive work required multiple crews over weeks, Raymond waits to have a full days of work before asking me to pay ferry coost for thecrew. Hes probably saved me hundreds if not thousands on ferry fees!!! (Note== PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU OWN A HOUSE ON THE ISLANDS! I had to be careful of occasional laborer who just showed up at the house unannounced saying he was a carpenter or what not. I had 3-4 people just show up in a period of two weeks soliciting work! No credentials or anything. They said they had even worked on the house in the past and and quot;know their stuff.and quot; Bologna!. They usually use inferior products, are trying to make a quick buck, and don't do things right at all. When we started working on the house thru RJS, Raymond uncovered rags stuffed in plumbing vents, and doors that would not close because the toilet was put too close to the door. I found untreated lumber used for exterior work on the house, which many of these occasional laborers or hacks used in the past. Go with a reputable company!) RJS uses quality people. Raymond was very picky about details, picky about the people he employs and especially the materials.- PHILIP M.

AHunter InvestmentThe roof needed to be repaired and the insurance would not pay for the total cost of the repair from storm damage. Hunter installed a roof that would be appropriate for a flat roof on the breezeway that had leaked for years prior to the storm damage. The other repairs that they noticed beyond the roof repair could and would have been ignored by other contractors, but they allowed us to make the decisions about the fix and they gave us the service immediately. Hunter was the best contractor experience for us ever.- Kaye S.

AMENDCO CONSTRUCTIONAfter seeing the work they performed on other homes in the park, I called Mendco for an estimate. Their sales rep. was prompt and professional. They started the work in a reasonable amount of time with a work crew that was knowledgable and professional. Any concerns that I had during the process were addressed promptly. I would use them again if the opportunity ever occurs.- Paul N.

FThey refused to wear masks even when I requested them to. My Son has special needs and my mother has health issues. They were ridiculous. I had to ask my family to leave while they laid the floor. That kind of carelessness and ignorance is horrible. We are in a pandemic. Guess no one mentioned that to them.

FDuring the initial meeting when we received our estimate and up until the day we signed our contract, we were very pleased with our decision to go with Mike and his company. He had lots of information to pass along, plenty of "5 stars" and "A Ratings" with documentation to prove it. Lots of wonderful talk and paperwork showing how important his clients were to the success of his company. Once we signed our contract everything began to go downhill. It took more than 3 months to get the new roof put on (was told no more than 4 weeks, weather did play some of a roll in this so we didn't hold a grudge over it). However, they came and installed an entire new roof and tear down in one day while my wife and I were at work, no notification they were coming or working at the house that day. No chance for us to see what it looked like below the shingles, no chance to meet his subcontractors, no chance to take the dogs somewhere for the day. The very first rain came just a few days later, we had 2 new leaks. Mike wouldn't return our phone calls and it took another 8 weeks for them to come out and fix the damage (on the outside, we were responsible for all the new damage inside the home). Another 5 months went by, playing phone tag and exchanging text messages with Mike. We were continually told we were next on the docket for gutters. Finally we cut our losses and hired another company to do it instead. No apology, no coverage for new damages, and overall a terrible experience that I would not hope for any homeowner. In the year and half since, we have had to do more repairs on our "new" roof, and rather than use our warranty we have paid to have someone else come and work on our home. Our money deserved to have gone elsewhere.

DThe customer service is poor, and they lack follow through. Our garage door does not work properly and sounds like it's going to fall. In every inch of the sod, the grass is dead. I wish we had chosen a different builder.

DThings started great with Jene. Fair price, the deck design we wanted. We hired him. Impressed with day 1 and 2 of construction. Then things slowed. Final project took longer than anticipated, but we were willing to overlook that. The problems came when we expressed some safety concerns. The gate he installed is falling off. The main railing is very flimsy. Someone could easily break through it simply by falling into it. This is a raised pool deck. Gene came and looked at it. He didn’t let us know he was here. He didn’t even text or email after that fact. I saw him leaving, which is the only way we even knew he was here. He told us it’s fine. The wood would swell and it will be safe. We’ve had professionals look at the job, and they too agree; it’s not safe. No surprise, Jene is no longer listed on here. Please save yourself the time, money and headache, and avoid working with Jene Jacobi from All Phase Construction
