She is very professional and easy to talk to. She is very punctual and there are no long waits in her office. She is very knowledgeable and asks a lot of questions.

    FRANCISCO MATEO
Dr. Mateo was kind and easily understood when he came to see me every day for the 2 weeks that I was in the hospital. He helped me get better faster by being frank with me and telling me what I absolutely HAD to do in order to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.

I had used him once and he sent me in for lung x-rays.  When I went back in for the results, he said I had one tumor in my lung and said that it was too small to biopsy and he was too cavalier about everything, so I went next time and saw his partner, who was from India too.  He pulled up the x-rays and told I actually had 5 tumors in my lung and he was a lot turner with me but yet he was the one who would really answer all my questions.  I always had to sit out in the waiting room for quite a while.  He didn't explain the facts to me properly.  I understand that anything that shows up on x-ray, can be biopsied.

    Fernando Chaves MD
Overall, his staff was pleasant and efficient, his waiting room was clean and relatively comfortable.  The wait was about 30 minutes to get in to see Dr Chaves.  He spent approximately 5 minutes with me. He does have a breathing technician who was a delight to work with when she tested my lung capacity. Essentially, Dr Chaves is a physician who doesn't want to discuss issues, and has no interest in a patient's perception of what's happening. I've lived with my Neurological Sarcoidosis since 1999.  I am very attuned to how it's affecting my body, when it's very active, when it's in remission, when it's attacking my internal organs or my joints and when it's affecting my lungs. I've had good pulmonary physicians - Dr. Fahey in Chicago, IL, who is head of Loyola Hospital's pulmonary department.  He had time to speak and discuss things and never limited his interaction to only my lungs, since Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disorder.  Thank goodness Loyola is a teaching hospital and new physicians are learning how to handle this rare disease from someone like Dr. Fahey. I would not recommend Dr Chaves .
