Chubb Construction and Basement Waterproofing Inc
I don't think I've ever worked with a company like Chubb. I was given a quote which was a bit higher than a couple of other companies, but covered what the real scope of the work was. This turned out to be a 3 week job with their entire crew and they were phenomenal. from covering the work area to cleaning up every night and everything in between. The owner, Terry, personally intervened when a disgruntled ex-salesperson attempted to cause trouble and threatened us. The job was done perfectly - even our local inspector commented later that most companies don't do this quality of work anymore. If you need any foundation work or waterproofing, this should be your first and only call.

    The Basement Guys - Cleveland
We originally spoke to a rep from the company at the Home and Garden Show. We were impressed with the quality of the materials they used. We then had Michele out to our home to help with the design and provide us with a quote for the project. We ended up having a total of 5 companies give a quote for the project and they had a very competitive price. Michele was able to make our vision and all of our special requests come to life. We had them finish our roughed in full bath, install a kitchenette with water for the fridge and water/drain for the sink. The finished part of our basement was about 900sq ft. One of the things I loved about this company was that we were able to supply materials if we preferred or we could use the standard ones they supplied. The ones they supplied were perfectly fine, but we wanted to match a few items from the rest of the house and customize a few things to make the basement our style. We ended up supplying the doors, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanity and light fixture, shower insert, and flooring. The Basement Guys installed everything. The plumber and electrician did a very good job and accommodated all of our requests beautifully. We added extra lighting and outlets in the unfinished area for storage for functionality. We had a few guys working on our basement but Jon was my main contact person. Any concerns I had, I spoke with Jon and he made sure everything was completed to our satisfaction. Jon was incredibly responsive and produced and excellent final quality for our basement. Both Michele and Jon were a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend them to others looking to create your dream basement living environment! We are still working on painting, but will post pictures soon. We are very excited to start enjoying our new basement in the very near future. The cost below is what cost we paid to The Basement Guys for the material for walls, trim, and labor. We had additional costs for the items we provided. Had we not provided the doors, vanity, lighting, shower insert or floors, the cost (no kitchen area) would have been about $7000 more through the quote with The Basement Guys. Our total costs were $45000 including the kitchen area ($13000 for cabinets, sink, faucet, and countertops).

    Mister Mason
James D'Angelo of Mister Mason removed the five foot stone step and the crumbling decorative white brick work riser and replaced with perfectly matching new white bricks and new stone step. He did the work in under two hours, then also went up on my roof to inspect my brick chimney. He reported the chimney was in good condition, no work needed on it. He came back the next day to inspect the job and be sure the mortar had set properly. He cleaned up the area very well when he was done. Final bill exactly matched the advance estimate he had given me. Very professional job.

Slow to respond. But I held in there because the price was good, and someone I knew used him and was very happy. I wanted the old grout on my entry step replaced. That was not done. And even if I chalk that up to miscommunication (and shame on me for not getting a quote in writing) the project was incomplete and unprofessional. They missed obvious crack and crumbling pieces (see photos). On one section you can see that the new grout was just put over the old. Nothing removed. Some of the grout was left to harden on my steps and walkway. I am very upset and now have to either finish the job myself or hire someone new. My money is tight, so to have spent it on something that was not done properly is just unsettling.

Advance Masonry & Full Chimney Service Inc
Tony was the most responsive of all the Angie's List masonary contractors I contacted. Was on top of the job from start to finish. Got it all done in half a day with a crew of 3 men who worked well together. Not the cheapest, but the price was fair for the quality of work Tony delivered. Very happy; am already planning other projects for him.

    Parks Tree Inc
All went well. We needed to make a schedule change so they could finish another project but the wait was short (1-2 days). Once they started their work at my home, they stayed with it until completion. The planting was done in two parts to accommodate the best planting times for the plants and the tree. Andy was easy to reach and very responsive.

    Mister Mason
First, he promised he'd do the work in September and never did. Then, he said he would do it in October and that never happened so I sent him a letter on November 6th saying that I wasn't going to wait any longer and that I wanted my money back. He then promised again that he'd have it done by Christmas or thereafter.

One thing that didn't sit well with me was when he told me that he had to do the big jobs first in order to have money to get through the winter, which made it seem like my job wasn't significant or important to him. He also mentioned that he does snow plowing in the winter, so he actually does get money in the winter.

Recently on Monday, I talked to him again and he said he'd send me the check by the end of the week, so we will see what happens.

    Mister Mason
They came out pretty quickly and did an estimate. I think they came out on a Saturday or a Sunday and gave me the estimate and they did the work on Tuesday, maybe. So that was pretty good. They tuck pointed my front steps. I guess they ground it out and put in the new mortar and all that good stuff. i have rod iron railing, so they cemented around the railing a little bit. It's not cement I don't know exactly what they call it. Made sure they matched the color of the mortar to the color that was already in the brick work so that was good. I didn't get any other estimates, and I wanted to get the job done but the price seemed fair to me, so let's say B because hopefully they can at least make the price better. I hate to give anybody an A for price. It was hard trying to schedule, but none of the masons were getting back to me right away and I was getting confused about which one was which because I had called into three different people, but he was really good. He came out I think Saturday or Sunday and then we set it up and Tuesday he had it done. He was the most polite guy. We didn't really have a set time he was supposed to come on Tuesday but I knew Tuesday. I was just so happy to have it done before I go back to school and with the difficulty I was having trying to find someone to get back in touch with me to do the estimate. When I looked him up, they got that super service award and all of that so I felt confident in just saying go ahead and do it.

    Frank Scherer
I called Frank Scherer and he came to look at the job within 2 days. He told me he would do the job and asked if I were in a hurry. I told him I was not in a hurry so he called about 2 weeks later (Sunday 5/7/17) and said he would do the job the next morning. He arrived on Monday morning and completed the job. He cleaned up the area and did an excellent job.
