Landscaping reviews in North Bend

The crew came as stated and worked continuously until the work and clean up was completed. I asked for a couple of small things that were not discussed at the time of the quote and they were done with no questions asked. Apex came when they said they would and did the work they said they would. You do not always get that! I would recommend Apex 100%. They also have a maintenance contract for clean up every 6 months.

I couldn't have been happier.  I saw them doing work on a neighbor's trees a week earlier.  I ask and they give me a written estimate and sent me proof of insurance.  They arrived at their estimated time and completed the work in 5 hours.  They were careful not to damage nearby landscaping or my lawn. They raked the areas to clean up all the small twigs and left things looking better than they found them.  The workers were courteous and well behaved.  Their climber appeared to work safely.  They also used a bucket truck on one tree where they had paved access, a chipper for the branches, and a Dingo for moving the larger logs.

I would definitely use them again.

The entire experience from beginning to end was excellent. The owner Gavin came out to give us a bid despite the fact that a wind storm had come through the area and created an increased need for tree services. His bid was sent promptly and was detailed and an excellent price. The contracted date for service was met and the crew was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, did excellent work, and left the premises completely cleaned of debris. We would not hesitate to use them again.

Mark is a consummate professional and genuinely cares about his work. With his superb attention to detail, the lighting scheme was designed and installed to perfection. He uses premium quality lights and they are worth every penny. Our expectations were exceeded across the board. Just like most things in life - you get what you pay for, folks!

I am incredibly frustrated with their lack of communication.  Sometimes they'll schedule an appointment, and then cancel without even letting me know.  The weather has been bad for all of us but there are other tree companies that are working in our neighborhood.

I did not hire this company because they refused to accept a check for payment. Apparently because I got a "special price," that required me to pay with only cash. Despite being in the house 25 years and 810+ FICO scores, Brad would not accept a check from me. I was expected to go to the bank, take out $3800 in cash, take it home on complete faith that they?ll show up on the scheduled day. What company ever asks that of a customer? No decent company does that.

Emails went back and forth and Brad would not change his stance, no check would be accepted. I was told by him that their customers had no problem paying cash. Really? It?s so obvious to everyone reading this why they would do cash only?just maybe Richey Tree Service did not want to report that income? You think?

I just didn't feel comfortable doing that, particularly when I had another company lined up (at the same price, although on a later schedule). It certainly did not warrant the inconvenience to me to gather all that cash up given now the ethics of the company, let alone for a not-so-special price.

UPDATE 3/1/15 - I changed my grade from "D" to "F" because the Provider Response was not true in my case. At no time was I given an opportunity to pay by check.

Quoting Brad: "...the only way I can get the price that low on just the two elm trees is for you to pay by cash not check. Cash helps us out..." "...we give our customers a better price for paying with cash" "...Norman is old school and still believes if a customer can pay by cash he can price the job better for them."

    There was no misunderstanding.

I was asked by Angie's List to provide a review. After sending out an initial email explaining my situation and what I wanted to have done, I received no response for 6 days. I then resent the email and got a response from Jeff for me to call him to set up a time. I responded via email that any morning would be fine. He never got back to me, totally blew me off!

UPDATE 3/3/2015 Jeff, you NEVER got back to me! I'm thinking you did indeed get my email indicating any morning would be fine, but you blew me off because you wanted a phone call. Really? Only doing business over phone is odd especially in the 21st century, and when you even offer an email address. Geez, how about next time you actually let a prospective customer know that you refuse to respond to emails.

They took out some stumps while I wasn’t there.  They did the work I asked, but I never met them and just mailed the payment. :  Frankly, I just asked them to do some very basic work of taking out stumps.  I had inquired about the tree cutting prices but they were far too expensive for me.  Other than that, they took out the stumps for the deal I got on Angie’s List.

UPDATE 10/28/14: Rebuttal to Provider Response.  It is sad that Kevin Jr. had to lie in order to "fix" the issues he created.
"Stump quotes and scheduling are done every other weekend with work performed on Saturday and Sundays" Definitely not true, I was told I would get an estimate when he did my neighbors trees during the week. He also did the stumps for my neighbor during the week.
"which is not convenient for the customer" Never an issue with scheduling. I was available Monday through Friday. Anytime. Again, not true.
"The landscaping light that is mentioned was originally covered by a garbage can to protect the light. The garbage cans were removed by the customer and buckets were placed over them instead, against recommendation by our company" Again, so sad he had to lie about this. He only had two garbage cans and I had three lights. My buckets were placed over perennials and that one light.
"Emails that were not responded to were sent to the wrong email address, several emails and phone calls have been made to rectify any problem this customer may have, but though communications we are puzzled to exactly what the true issues are and unfortunately have to decline any further services to this customer" Having a hard time following that? Good riddance. Shame on you.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: It would be nice if they came back to finish the work! Spent most of the day with the 4 ash trees, with the clean up and stacking of the wood. I was happy with the work and had no problem giving them a tip -even when one truck dropped oil on the concrete driveway and they damaged a landscape light- because I knew that they would be back to do the elms, and also the stumps. Actually, I had asked for an estimate for the stumps. Kevin said he would be back to do my neighbor's trees (on my recommendation), and he'll leave one then.

Kevin's Tree Service came back to do my neighbor's trees a week later, and then their stumps soon after. I never did receive that stump estimate from Kevin. My neighbor shared with me that Kevin's Tree Service had to rent the stump grinder because theirs failed. I thought maybe that may have been the reason why I did not get the estimate.

I had to call Kevin because I never received a follow-up from him (called 3 times, and had to leave messages), I never got the courtesy of a call back from Kevin. I even emailed twice, not one response from them. NOTHING. They just disappeared!!! Of course this is highly unprofessional. I'm now in the process of getting estimates to finish their work.

I would NOT recommend them! Their work may be better than others, but the way I was treated by Kevin is puzzling to say the least. I treated the whole crew with respect, providing water for them, tipping for their hard work. I gave Kevin more work from my recommendation, and this is the way I was treated by him. Save the stress, look elsewhere for your tree work!

He left a message and I called back the next morning. The first thing he asked was if I had a plan/sketch. I said i did not, I knew exactly what I wanted done. He pushed his designer at $200 for a plan, and I insisted that was not at all necessary.
Skip this guy if you know what work needs to be done. He advertises a free consultation, but basicly wants to charge $200 for it.

UPDATE. Sorry David, but there was no misinterpretation. I have read your response and other reviews. Yes, you require me to spend up to $300 before you even provide an estimate. Paying a designer is so wasteful in my case. What I want done was very obvious if you just came out to look at the job.

If others want to pay for a design, more power to them. That should be their choice to do so, not yours.
