  • My family (husband and three fur babies) moved from Utah to
    New Richmond, Ohio in July 2012.  As we were new to the area, we chose to
    take our dogs to the local vet.  The vet visits went okay, the doctors
    were on the average side of friendly, and the front staff was very nice.
     After visiting three local boarding places, we chose to board our two
    dogs, Charlotte and Dinky, at Lifetime Pet Center due to our vet being on
    location and the facility having a very small number of kennels (less stress,
    noise, etc.).  As my husband and I were traveling to Europe, we left
    emergency contact information.  I received a phone call from my friend
    (emergency contact) telling me Lifetime Pet Center staff lost Charlotte.
     I cannot begin to express how devastating this news was.  I felt
    totally helpless.  My friend said LPC told her staff members had been out
    looking for Charlotte, but were unable to find her.  The staff also
    informed my friend they put up "missing" posters in town, notified
    police, and notified local animal shelters.  My friend kept me informed
    via email and text.  At no point in time did LPC contact me.  My
    friend had to call them for updates; they did not call her as requested.
     The communication from the staff at LPC was mediocre at best. My husband
    and I caught an earlier flight home, but arrived after closing time.
     Through my friend, I learned the staff would not make accommodations for
    me to pick up, one hour and thirty minutes after their closing time, Dinky.
     Upon arriving home, I drove to LPC and around the neighborhood looking
    for Charlotte.  The staff had put a crate with a blanket/pad, water, and
    food on their back porch area just in case Charlotte found her way back.
     I appreciated this gesture very much.  The next morning I went to
    pick up Dinky.  Walking through the door was absolutely miserable.
     The lady at the front desk was very apologetic.  I was told they had
    removed her collar (with tags) and harness and had been using a slip leash
    (standard), but since Charlotte pulled against it so much, they decided to put
    back on her collar and leash from home. 
    Why they removed her collar in the first place is beyond me.  Well, Charlotte's collar was not properly
    snapped together and gave away when she pulled against the leash.  She
    ran.  Staff said she was seen once
    after that, but was too skittish to approach.  I was then told the girl who was taking care of Charlotte
    when it happened quit because she was so upset.  That information did not
    make me feel better.  I did not, nor do I now, blame the girl. I know it
    was an accident-she did not set out to lose Charlotte.  The lady at the
    front desk informed me they would probably not charge me because of what
    happened.  Seriously.  That was the least they could do.  As I
    gathered up Dinky and her luggage, I was given Charlotte's leash and collar.  Just
    when I thought I could not feel any worse...  Long story short-I never
    heard from the owner of Lifetime Pet Center or the vet.  In fact, no one
    called to check and see if Charlotte had been found or to ask how our family
    was doing.  Nothing.  No note, no card, no email. Nothing.  When
    I called local shelters, I was told they had NOT been notified of any missing
    dog from Lifetime Pet Centers.  When I visited local businesses, I found
    NO "missing" posters.  When I drove/walked around town, I found
    NO posters. It made me sick to think this could happen to someone else.  I
    called and left a message for the owner of LPC asking him/her to call me so we
    could discuss my concerns about the safety and security of future dogs kenneled
    at that particular facility.  When I did not hear back from anyone, I
    called again.  I spoke with a nice office manager who informed me the
    owner did call back and left a message.....I did not receive any messages.
     The office manager tried to address a few of my concerns-one being; no
    fence could be installed because not enough land is owned by the facility.
     I admit at one point in the conversation I became irritated when I felt
    the incident was being blamed on Charlotte because she pulled against the
    leash.  I tried to remain respectful as I shared my feelings pertaining to
    her statements.  The office manager offered to have someone call me back
    to let me know how they were going to make sure something like this did not
    happen again.  Someone did leave me a message the next day.  I called
    back two days later.  I have not received any further calls.  The
    management's utter lack of professionalism and common decency is pathetic.
     I do not feel like they care about what happened-that deeply distresses
    me.  I still look for Charlotte.
