Diane spent the entire day with us in our home. She listened to what we were looking for as we prepared to redo our kitchen and master bathroom. Given that we were taking our walls, she drew a thorough kitchen/living/dining room layout (including lighting!). Given that plans evolved over time, she has continued to provide input via email for everything from lighting to furniture placement. Since remodeling, we have continued to decorate and fill rooms over the past 2 years. Our package included lifetime design support for the 5 rooms, and Diane continues to provide input as requested on exactly what shape and size pieces we need to complete our space.

    Craftsmen Home Improvements
This was my first experience with a remodel of this extent, and it couldn't have gone smoother. I chose this company based on a friend's experience and from seeing their work at a home show earlier in the year. The work involved: removing a large Jacuzzi tub, replacing it with a smaller one; removing a very small shower, replacing it with one twice the size; removing all cabinetry, replacing it with taller cabinets with a quartz countertop and new sinks and fixtures; replacing all tile; reworking a small amount of plumbing, replacing the toilet; replacing carpet with ceramic floor tile, replacing light fixtures. The room remained the same size but everything in it was replaced. Kevin gave me excellent guidance in establishing the design of the room and in selecting all of the materials. Having a showroom available was very helpful in envisioning what the end result could look like. The contract clearly listed all of Craftsmen's responsibilities as well as mine. Kevin kept me apprised of when the work could start and always answered my questions promptly. The construction crew consisted of Rick and Troy, who were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Once the work started, they were dedicated for the two weeks it took to complete the job. They were here promptly every day. They were extremely hard workers and always cleaned up at the end of day. They gave me great guidance on various aspects of the project. They always consulted with me before installing various elements of the remodel so that there was no confusion or mistakes. The beautiful outcome is a direct result of their efforts. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm to anyone considering a remodel of this type.

We completed our demo & prep work on Jan 15--and had previously arranged with Kevin to have the cabinets delivered on Jan 19  The installers (a subcontractor named VIAGROUP) arrived with the cabinets bright & early on the 19th (a Monday) and were done that Friday (the 23rd).   VIAGROUP (a father & son team of professional handymen) out of Camden, OH did an absolutely fantastic job.  They were both extremely professional, punctual, highly organized, and very meticulous.  On top of that, they were very personable, considerate, and eager to answer any questions we had as the work progressed.   We had one minor problem after the cabinet work was completed and we tried to move our refrigerator into the space allotted for it.  Our fridge was slightly bowed out on the sides and exceeded the tolerances allowed for it by about 3/8 inch.   We notified Kevin right away and, within a day or two, VIAGROUP came back and reconfigured the corner cabinet spacers to provide enough room for the fridge.  Fits great now! We also had dents and dings and chipped paint in some of the cabinet doors (a factory issue; not Craftsmen or VIAGROUP).  We notified Kevin and he contacted the cabinet maker who sent out a factory rep right away.  The factory rep agreed to have the doors repaired/refinished as needed.   Within a few days, a Professional Furniture Service (Amelia, OH) technician came to examine the cabinets.  He made minor repairs to several of the cabinets on-site, but had to take some of the doors back to the shop to properly redo the paint job.   He brought the doors back, after about two weeks, on Feb 27 and reinstalled them.  They look great! Throughout these very minor "setbacks", Kevin was very responsive and kept us informed every step of the way.  We love our new cabinets! We love our new quartz countertops as well!  Craftsmen's subcontractor/Mark Boeckman delivered and installed about 30 feet of countertops (along with our new sink) within a couple of hours.   They fit perfectly against the walls and the corner seams are virtually invisible. Craftsmen Home Improvements is aptly named.  They and their subcontractors are true craftsmen and experts in their respective fields.  And Kevin was highly professional, personable, and very responsive to any of our questions or concerns.  He oversaw the entire project to a very successful conclusion.   My wife & I would definitely Craftsmen Home Improvements for any home improvement project.

    CertaPro Painters® of Dayton
I was very impressed especially during my initial contact with them. Laura, the woman who came out to talk to me and discuss their services, was very professional. I like that she brought a notebook filled with professionally done brochures that contains the information on the paint they use, the colors, and all of their services. It also had a large section of customer service evaluation with the names, and contact numbers of the people who you can contact to make sure of their existence. They guys who came out to paint the house did a great job. They were always prompt. They always left everything very neat and tidy. Trey, the team leader, was always great coming to me at the end of the day, to inform me of the status of the job, where they were, what they were doing, and what they plan to do next. They used a lift to get to the upper story of the house, and it left tire marks on the lawn. Trey, came back out, and filled it with top soil and sod. Now, you cannot tell that anything ever happened to the lawn.

Diane was very pleasant and professional throughout the whole process. She listened to my design concerns and ideas and provided thoughtful input in return. She provided a very detailed decorating "plan of attack" that I love. Excellent experience!

    Hurst Total Home Inc
Overall, we are extremely pleased with the work performed by Hurst. Everything they did turned out beautifully. Some of the words below are critical, but we would definitely hire Hurst again, and we would recommend them to anyone. Our work with Hurst went in three basic stages (with some overlap): Sales, Design, and Building. First, the Sales Stage: Jeff Hurst came to our home to get a feel for the scope and to understand our overall desires for the project. Jeff's attitude and honesty were a big part of why we hired his company to work in our home. The quoted price was rather high, but it was obvious that Jeff put some work into the numbers, and the quote was realistic for the amount we wanted done. Hurst gets an 'A' for the Sales Stage. Then came the Design Stage. Once we chose to hire Hurst, the next step was to design our new space. The design fee was not insignificant, but it was reasonable, and the fee was applied toward the actual job once we signed a contract. The design stage is the most difficult to rate, in part because it extended from first draft plans until last-minute, real-time decisions. Overall, Hurst gets a 'B-' for the Design Stage. I'll get back to a lengthy explanation about this stage. Finally, the Building Stage. If we could give an A+ to the guys who worked on our kitchen, we would. Clay and Barry were consummate professionals, and we're so happy with all of the work they did. Both of them arrived promptly at the designated starting time EVERY DAY. Both men went to great lengths to make our remaining living space as comfortable as possible while they demo'd and then rebuilt our kitchen. After a day of knocking down plaster walls, Clay and Barry left our living room cleaner than it had been the day before. They anticipated our wants/needs and went the extra mile every time to make sure we'd be happy with the final product. They were pleasant, respectful, and professional, and we had no problem leaving them unattended in our home. We can't speak to the other teams that work for Hurst, but if you have Clay and Barry on your job, consider yourself lucky. As mentioned above, 'A+' for the Building Stage. Back to the Design Stage. Things started out well. We met with Jeff and his design team, and we provided input about things we liked/didn't like. We also gave them a list of and quot;must havesand quot; and provided a Pinterest-like portfolio of inspiration pictures. The design team took our input, turned it into real plans, and presented two options to us, including things we hadn't thought of that were better than our pre-conceived notions. We're very happy with the layout they helped us choose, so they get high marks through and quot;conceptual design.and quot; The Hurst team loses points for the details of the design. As we approached the start date for our job, we realized that there were a lot of details remaining to be finalized (floor tile, splash tile, faucet, etc... each had a budget in the contract, but no specifics). Since we both work and wanted to avoid making rushed decisions, we asked for a schedule outlining the decisions we would need to make and the deadline by which we would need to provide those decisions. The Hurst designer, who was always a pleasure to work with, provided this schedule for us, but we should have received the schedule sooner, and we shouldn't have had to ask for it. It's in their own best interest to have all of the decisions made up front, and we expected their extensive experience to enable them to break the whole process down to a science. We stuck to our decision schedule, but unfortunately, the schedule didn't contain everything, and there were still a handful of and quot;we need to know NOWand quot; moments. Additionally, there were two occasions when our project was held up because we didn't receive materials in time. This was in part because of some shipping issues outside of local control, but the items could have been ordered much sooner, and then we would have been aware of the shipping issues in time to make the change we chose to make. (Full disclosure, the Hurst team did what they could to make things right for one of the items by helping us find a replacement product and covering some of the difference in cost) In the end, we're not unhappy with the Hurst design team, but we think things could have been done better. Things often seemed disorganized, and we wondered how much slower our project would have moved if we weren't constantly calling and emailing. The biggest problem seemed to be that our designer was simply over-worked. They had too many projects to focus on, so they were only able to pay attention to things that were urgent. To reiterate: we would definitely hire Hurst again. We have some complaints about the process of the design stage, but we have no complaints about the result. The Hurst design team helped us find an optimal layout, and they helped us find beautiful, high-quality materials. When you hire Hurst, you might pay a little more, and you might need to proactively manage your design, but the result is worth it.

    CASTON'S INTERIOR DESIGN
I purchased my countertops through Menards. Chuck Caston was one of the contractors that Menards offers when you purchase through them. I did contact more than one of their contractors. But Chuck Caston seemed more professional and accurate with his measurements. Although he was the most expensive contractor of those we interviewed, we chose him because he offered to deliver with his services and would dispose of any materials we were no longer needing. We did have an issue with our countertop being damaged by the store. I was glad to have Chuck there to let us know what had happened and how to get it fixed. Once our countertops were re-made he was able to get us in quickly. Chuck had a partner with him to help him install the items. It all went rather smoothly until the plumbing didn't match the new sink. Chuck went to a nearby hardware store for the parts. He tried to do a quick fix. After he left I noticed it leaking. I called him. He did come out to fix the leak and quot;the right wayand quot;. I also noticed that one of the countertop edges had been scratched. He resolved both of those problems in the second visit and only charges me for materials that day. I had to have him out for a third time for leaking. I was not charged this time. He tightened some areas. So far all has been fine. Overall, I did pay a higher price than was quoted. I wish he would have and quot;done it rightand quot; the first day with the plumbing under the sink. Instead of having me pay for two trips to the hardware store when he was and quot;trying to make it work with what I had from the last sinkand quot;. Using the diamond sander on the countertops made a mess of gritty sand in the house that I had to clean up. Honestly though, I was comfortable having Chuck in my home. He did a nice job. He was easy to contact and discuss any concerns I had. I would recommend him. I would just advise the potential new client to set aside some extra cash for those times when things don't go as planned.

It went beyond my expectations. Diane came and she gave me ideas for having the exterior of our house painted. I was in a turmoil about what colors to use. She gave great, solid suggestions and gave an idea about a little fencing. She spent some time looking at 2 rooms that we have and suggested room colors and furniture arrangement. She was a delight to be with. The fee was very well spent and like I said, she exceeded my expectations.
