Glass Block Installation reviews in Montgomery

The glass blocks are an upgrade from the old single pane windows in my window wells. During moderate to heavy rains, the grout seems to get wet and there is minor amounts of water that come in around the frame. During heavy rains (e.g. flash floods of 2016-08-15) water leaks in between the glass blocks where the silicon has not been uniformly applied (see water trickle in attached photos; two example of three of the six windows doing this). As you can see in the photo, the water spots reveal this is not the first time water has been on the inside of the window. Between minor cracks in the grout, the pervious nature of grout (see second photo and the dry light grey versus the dark wet grey), and leaks at the edges of the blocks, I would not try to finish my basement yet. On the plus side, the glass blocks did hold back standing water, where as the old single pane windows broke, necessitating the upgrade.

We would highly recommend Block Tite. They are the only supplier in the area with mortar glass block. In addition to the best quality product, service was outstanding. They were very responsive to provide a quote and completed installation on a faster timeline than similarly priced competitors. Overall a very positive experience!

Installer arrived early to remove four old basement windows and install 4 new glass block windows with vents. Job was a little difficult as one of the windows was obstructed, but the installer was able to maneuver around and complete the instillation. The job was done in about 4 hours, and the installer cleaned up after the job was done. My husband said that this was money well spent.  I would recommend Security Glass Block.

I had a fantastic experience with Jack Williams Glass Block Inc. We have an old house and it was a cold day and the window fell in. I called another company, who was going to take three weeks to get a new window in. I called Jack Williams and they came out and had another glass block window installed within an hour. I'm going to be calling them again, to have them install three more for me. I was very happy with them. I like the way they did the work. They were really nice. I was very pleased with them.

    Update 2015-01-06:
Two and a half years later, and after some very heavy rains around Christmas, I still do not have a single leak from my new glass block windows.  I am very happy with their performance over time.  They still look as new as the day they were installed.

    Original 2013-07-10:
With all the rain we received over the last week or so, our old basement windows started to leak, and one broke, letting a flood of water into our basement.  We called on Friday, and Robert came out to do measurements on Saturday.  After fabricating the windows in his shop, he brought them out and installed them on Wednesday.  When I saw them, they looked very clean with very crisp mortar lines.  Now, I just hope they keep our basement dry when it rains again.
Robert was very friendly and professional to work with; he even thanks me for the business when we were the ones thanking him for fitting us in so quickly.  Based on his responsiveness, professionalism, and price, I would recommend him.  You will have to check back in a few years to see how well the windows hold up--I am sure they will be fine.

Price was as quoted.  Did a great job installing windows.  A lot of gravel, leaves and debris came in basement when taking old windows up.  But did a great job of cleaning up the basement when the work was complete.  Very pleased with their price, professionalism and sense of customer care.

Received quotes for another company and Mid America beat other price.  Quality of glass blocks and of installation was first class.

Windows are beautiful. They had to come back twice to clean up the broken glass and mess created when completing the job. Not sure if it was newer installers or lack of attention to detail. The sales rep did call to check up and ensure satisfaction.

I called for an appointment and was scheduled at my time frame. The estimator came and was very professional. Gave me the estimate and reduced the price because of using Angie's List. When the estimator called to schedule the installation and were able to do it the next day. The services were performed professionally and timely, the clean up was excellent.

I brought in 4 companies that I found on AL to bid the job. I told them they were all bidding against each other since glass block window replacement is such a commodity service here. They were the most reasonably priced wiling to do the job with an all mortar installation between the blocks and in the window. Block-tite was the last estimate I got and the best one (probably because he knew I was playing them against each other.) He pulled up when the previous estimator was still leaving! BEWARE of silicone-only installers. In my last house, I had silicone between the blocks and water eventually penetrated somewhere and caused a little mold between the blocks. Mortar is the way to go. Very few Tri-state companies will do ALL-MORTAR because it is more expensive and a little more difficult for them but it is very worthwhile.. The two contractors came on a Saturday afternoon, efficiently did the job and left. They were nice, quiet and quick. They left a little mess on the windows and walls inside, and probably should have wiped up better after themselves, but all in all, it was a very pleasant experience. Once I vacuumed the sills and carpet in the basement, it was back to clean. The basement looks so much better now that I have glass block instead of dirty, drafty old plain glass windows.

The man who came to do the work did a fine job. He showed up on time and got right to work. He cleaned up everything afterward and he even reattached my dryer to the new vent. That really surprised me as I felt that was beyond the scope of his work. Oh and one more thing. I've not done glass block before. I had this idea that they actually build the window block by block on site, like a brick layer. But these windows came already built. And then the contractor mortared the entire window in place. I'm sure all of the glass block companies do it this way. It was just new to me :-)
