First I spoke with someone on the phone to discuss my concerns and schedule a visit. I was able to meet with the psychologist and the psychiatrist on the same day. (However, all of the psychiatrists are only part-time and it can be difficult to get in to see them. The psychologists are there regularly and it is easier to schedule a visit.)

The waiting room is very and quot;zenand quot; -- ambient music, small waterfall thing, etc. It had magazines for both kids and adults, tea, books, and some toys for kids to play with.

At the visit, they very clearly explained the process for evaluation and treatment, including costs for everything up front. The office does not take any insurance; it's all and quot;self-payand quot;, though they do provide forms that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

The psychologist (Lesley Kuras) had a PhD but was still completing her clinical supervision hours with one of the senior psychologists on staff (Chris Mayhall). She made me feel very comfortable. The psychiatrist seemed a bit rushed and aloof, and didn't look at any of the documentation I'd brought with me, though he had records from my old doctor as well that he may have seen before. My understanding is that the psychologists do most of the heavy lifting in this practice, and the psychiatrists are basically there to write prescriptions and to monitor medication and medical issues, but that they all communicate closely with each other.

Very pleasant waiting room and front desk staff.

The psychologist saw me about 5 minutes after the scheduled appointment time.

Lesley made me feel at ease discussing my concerns.  She is an excellent listener with good insight into the issues people with ADHD face, including anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, and related concerns.  From one visit to the next, she remembers what we discussed and checks up on how things are working (or not).  If a particular strategy (for managing distractions, getting work done, staying off the computer, etc.) isn't working, she doesn't blame me, but instead we try to troubleshoot what didn't work and what might work better.  It feels very collaborative, and she is very supportive.

Though she is a clinical psychologist (PhD) and thus does not prescribe medication, she is very familiar with the medications used to treat ADHD and works closely with the psychiatrists on staff.  She integrates sleep hygiene and other general wellness practices along with more targeted things for managing ADHD-related issues.

I didn't expect any miracles, but I am very pleased so far with my experiences and feel like I'm receiving good care.

Very difficult family dynamics due to remarriage and subsequent children. Emotions are better dealt with now.
