  • Overall, it was OK. First, the staff put an IV line in the crook of my right arm. It held antibiotics. Every time I even bent my arm a little bit, the alarm would go off. Sometimes it took their nursing staff 20 minutes to come to silence the alarm. That was annoying, especially in the middle of the night. There was no communication, I couldn't get anyone to tell me what was happening. The food was awful, and I was charged for a parade of doctors who came in for 5 minutes, said almost nothing to me, and then left. I also saw a cleaning person use the same rag to clean the bathroom and the bedside tables. I didn't want to go there to begin with, but my health care provider only lets my doctor operate there.

  • It didn't seem like the doctors cared. They sent me home with very little treatment. Usually I would refer them but I don't know why they were not very good this time. I usually use St. Luke's for everything.

  • Poorly. First, there were too many doctors-a neurologist and a full practice of family docs, each making separate orders with no coordination and no consideration for the fact that this was an elderly man. The elderly react severely to meds, which they admitted but did nothing about. Once out of the hospital, my father has continued to make slow progress in gaining strength and independence. I did complain to both the ICU manager (verbally)and to the hospital. (written). St. Luke's has no policy for treating the elderly and no regard for the well-documented reactions to drugs in the elderly.

  • It's a long walk from the parking lot to the registration desk. If you're old and/or not feeling well, it's quite a hike! They have a few computers set up so you can make sure all your information is correct or if you're not comfortable doing that, they will have you sit at a desk and verify everything to a live person. You're given a pager like some restaurants do and you wait for them to page you. There is a nice coffee/snack stand there, along with many, many chairs and couches, but I didn't have time to purchase anything or even to sit down before I was called back. If you thought the walk from the parking lot was long, wait till you go into the bowels of the hospital for your test! I would assume they have wheelchairs and volunteers to guide you if you're unable to go that far yourself without help. The ultrasound technician was very friendly and professional. With all the water you have to drink, it's a little uncomfortable to have the wand pressed on your abdomen, but as soon as possible, she directed me to the bathroom. I was done!
