    Vonderhaar Fireplace Stove & Masonry
I would not recommend Vonderhaar to anyone. We had them out for a chimney rebuild due to a cracked crown. We picked Vonderhaar because their quote was lower than the others we had received. However, in the end we were out much more money, time, stress, and frustration than I would want anyone else to have to go through. They caused damage to our roof that led to multiple leaks in our house. They did flashing incorrectly and rather than simply re-doing it, they did a poor repair job that had to be re-done by another company. They dropped debris into our flu vent, which caused it to be clogged. This led to damage of our furnace and hot water heater plus carbon monoxide was backing up into our house. They took zero responsibility for anything and tried to place the blame elsewhere multiple times. Greg was very unprofessional and even used profanity towards my husband. I understand that not every job goes exactly as planned, but the lack of acceptance of responsibility shown by the company as a whole was appalling. In the end we had to have multiple other companies out to fix the issues Vonderhaar caused. I will say that Randall was very nice and tried to help smooth things over, but we had already had too many issues by the time he was employed by Vonderhaar. Look elsewhere for chimney work and definitely dont use them for any roofing work!

Bone Dry Roofing & Masonry - Cincinnati
The initial response by the estimator John was very good. There were some hiccups in getting the job scheduled, but once that was done everything went very well. The workmanship was excellent and the guys did a great job of cleaning up. I plan on having them back for more work in the future.

    Vonderhaar Fireplace Stove & Masonry
Kurt and his team did a good job of replacing the stone work and installing the door and mantle. It looks quite nice now that it is done. But if you are doing any work in an existing site, be prepared to hire another contractor to finish the job behind them. They don't do drywall work, or carpentry, or electrical. This would have been OK if they had stated it up front. But they did not. The bid for $6300 stated that we would have a complete job. Only after the job was half done, did they start telling me all the things they "don't do." In fact they didn't even want to clean up the mortar that was splattered on the new stone and walls until I insisted.

Bone Dry Roofing & Masonry - Cincinnati
I got 3 estimates for the project. Bone Dry was the most expensive by far, however they proposed doing the most work and went into the most detail about what needed to be done, so it's hard to say they were too expensive. They did excellent work in a reasonable amount of time. My only complaint concerns the fact that removing old brick and mortar is very dirty work and a lot of dust got on my screened porch. When I brought this to their attention , they put up a tarp to protect the porch. They also offered to blow off the dust on the porch. I declined this offer as I felt the porch needed a more thorough cleaning.

    Chimney Care Co
Chimney Care Company was the third company we had ot to look at our chimney. The first company quoted us $7000 in repairs, the second failed miserably and didn't even complete and inspection. A friend of ours recommended Chimney Care Company, so we gave them a call. They came out within a week and sent a representative who was incredibly professional and knowledgeable, leagues above anyone else we'd met with. He used the camera and showed us that thereally was no damage to the flue as the first company had suguessed, saving us $5000 right away. After reviewing the outside he made some suggestions of things we could do to help or problems and provided a much more reasonable quote to complete work. We will definitely be contacting Chimney Care Company in the spring to have the work completed.

The service that was provided was to notch and is the kind of service that earns and keeps customers, I highly recommend this company!

    Outside Insight

I met with Scott Gifford of Outside Insight in July, 2015 to discuss installing a custom stone fire-pit and pergola with surrounding seating in the October timeframe.  I provided him my plan and he and I talked through the construction details; 36" circular stone fire-pit lined with fire brick with a drain, 24" square by 36" high stone columns for the 6" x 6" pergola posts capped with stone, details about concrete footings and the joists and stringers, a 12' x 12" paver patio, and benches on three sides of the fire-pit made with the same premium decking materials my builder used on my home.

Scott understood exactly what I wanted and he and his team delivered!  What I had pictured in my mind is what Scott and his team built and my wife and I could not be happier! Scott is easy to work with, has great ideas, and has a professional team that was always on site and checking with me to make sure they were meeting my expectations.

At the same time I had a Bizon Blue Spruce tree in my front yard that had died and I could not find anyone who could locate a Bizon Blue.  The original landscape company who installed three Bizons for me was unresponsive and would not return my messages. Scott found a nursery in Burlington, Kentucky that had some trees and he arranged to pick up the tree and plant it for me.

I highly recommend Scott Gifford and Outside Insight landscaping for anyone looking for professional landscape services that are customer focused, knowledgeable, and has very competitive pricing.

Impressed with the crew's skills, paid attention to details. Very considerate of surrounding areas and good cleanup.
Crew was polite, provided explanation to my questions. Have received numerous compliments on the area.

ARCO - Affordable Roofing & Chimney Options
Chimney was swept clean.  We purchased a Big Deal for chimney sweep and credit towards masonry repair...boy would we have needed that "credit" if we had them perform the repair.
Estimated over $2K of damage and proposed repairs to chimney.  Photos seemed unconvincing to me so we sought second and third opinions.
Both other reputable, chimney/masonry only companies proposed lesser repairs and did not see any major problems with chimney or masonry.  We were told by Arco "do NOT use your chimney until you get it fixed, it is a huge fire hazard!"

    Brickworks-The Chimney Man
The Chimney Man came over the day I first called to look at my fireplace and chimney. (I had just had them cleaned and inspected and was told that my back refractory panel was cracked and unsafe for using and that there was some damage to my chimney chase cover requiring a small patch to prevent leaking in the future). He said he would look for a refractory panel replacement and I asked how long before he would contact me. He said Friday...two days hence. I heard nothing nor was a message left. I called him again the next Monday and again he came to my house and said that he couldn't find a refractory panel as thick as the one I have and suggested either using a thinner one plus modifying the the holding bracket or trying a repair with special mortar. I said I think it was worth trying the repair. He said they would come back the next day, Tuesday, and do both repairs. I said that I had a hair appointment in Kenwood at 1pm. He said that they would be here by noon. I knew that was cutting it close but I was able to get my appointment changed to 2 pm, just in case. I waited, never leaving the house, until 1:40 pm but no one showed up to do the work. He never called, never left a message. I texted him the next day or two and said that there must have been a mix up and could we reschedule. I have never heard from him. I was very disappointed because he was so prompt the first day. He seemed nice, knowledgeable, well groomed and I guess I was hoping he would be better than that all too typical treatment that I and my friends and neighbors have experienced all too often.
