Siding reviews in Lebanon

    Go To Guys Exteriors
We originally hired Go To Guys Exteriors for new siding, gutters and roof repairs. We met with Mark for the estimate and review of the project, pricing, materials, colors, etc. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He was very straightforward and did not use any high pressure sales tactics or gimmicks we had experienced with several other contractors. Several days later Richard (the company owner) came by with Mark to confirm project details. At this point I should say that our house is very old, a little odd and has had many renovations throughout the years. One portion of our roof is flat over an addition that was joined to the existing structure then to a patio enclosure that was installed some time later. Needless to say, over the years and with each change and renovation the roof as well as the exterior of the house was a bit of a patchwork. After thoroughly examining the roof and consulting with a flat roofing expert Richard told us that the roof could be repaired but considering the age of the roof over the main structure of the house and the already existing patchwork between it and the additions a total re-roofing would be something we should consider. After weighing the cost of repairing the roof versus totally replacing the roof and joining everything together at the same time we decided to replace the roof and we are very happy we did. The leak we were originally concerned about involved our fireplace chimney not being properly flashed and that exterior wall and supports were rotted and needed to be replaced. So not only does the new roof look amazing we are confident that the job was done totally and correctly this time. Richard and Mark were both very hands-on this project and truly concerned that the installation crews were meeting their very high standards. There are not enough words to convey just how thrilled we are with the work done on our home by Go To Guys Exteriors. From the quality of the materials and workmanship to the professionalism and hard work of the installation crews, not to mention the knowledge, honesty and true concern of Richard and Mark from start to finish of this project we could not be happier. The transformation is truly amazing. A month after the project if we are outside working we still have people stopping to say how great the house looks!

Better than my expectations. I am a very demanding customer because I request, and expect, quality materials to be used and attention to detail paid in the application and construction process. I spoke with every employee on the job and was really comfortable with how they went about breaking down and then residing and roofing my barn. Everyone on the job was respectful and professional - and kept a very tidy work area- and I highly recommend if you are looking for siding, gutters downspouts, etc. in the Dayton, to Cincinnati area you look up Richard Jackson and his crews. They did a great job for this discerning customer.

    Spivey's Premier Painting LLC
Everything went very smoothly and the results were excellent. The sidewalks and patio look great and the gutters are very clean, including the inner rim area that the rain must roll smoothly around to drop into the gutter. All leaves and pine needles were removed and several branches were cut back. The woodpecker holes have been filled and repainted to match the siding on the house. One area underneath several tall pine needles was particularly stained and dirty and it looks fine now. Most of the work was done the first day in several hours and they returned promptly the next day to finish staining the woodpecker holes. I couldn't be happier.

It went fine. Mr Spivey and his son arrived at the agreed upon time and did a thorough and efficient job, finishing the work in about 3 three hours. Because of the rainy and humid summer there was a lot more mildew than usual and that is completely gone. They even cleaned up an area under the deck where chipmunks had set up housekeeping last year and left behind a lot of small stones, pebbles and dirt. The house looks great and we are ready for the winter.

Bone Dry Roofing & Masonry - Cincinnati
In short, Bone Dry cannot be trusted on this type of work--not to do it properly and not to fix it when they screw it up. They not
only didn't do the work that they were supposed to do, the appearance of the work they did do is terrible and they messed up other areas as well. They screwed up the work, broke repeated promises to make it right, failed to communicate
their intentions, and then snuck off with the materials I had stored for two months without a word, leading me to believe that's the only reason they returned. Do yourselves a favor--find a contractor who will stand behind their
work at all times, not just when it's convenient and doesn't cost them much.
Here is the full, sad story:
On July 30, 2015, I received a written proposal from Steven Riehle of Bone Dry to remove the existing caulk around the windows and other exterior areas of our screened in porch and install new silicone caulk to match the color, and to inspect 16 other windows around the house and reseal them with silicone caulk where needed, as well as the front and rear entry doors. On August 18, Steve arrived with an older gentleman who was to do the work. Steve left and I went into the house to do some work of my own. When I came out to inspect what he'd done, he was attempting to use a dry rag to remove a large handprint
outlined in silicone caulk from the siding on my house. Apparently, he had lost his balance on the step ladder and used the house to keep from falling; better that than falling, but he had no cleaning solutions that would remove the caulk, and left me with that handprint on the siding. He then took me around to inspect the rest of his work--I found that he had NOT removed the old caulk on the porch and had attempted to caulk over it. The caulk line, which had been a neat 1/4" in width was now over 3/4"
wide and ragged in many places, as he had used a dry finger to attempt to smooth it. In some places, you could see the old caulk. There was silicone spatter on some of the screens and siding as well. He had used my grill cover (while on the grill) to put his caulk gun and rags, leaving caulk residue on the cover. In short, a 10 year old could have done a better job. He left, and I
called Steve, who came back in a few days and agreed that it was terrible and he told me that Bone Dry would make it right by replacing the J-Channel, facing, etc and caulking it properly. On Sept 16, he returned with new aluminum coil, J-Channels,
caulking and other materials. The team that was to do the work came a bit later. They looked around--and told Steve that he had underestimated the time and difficulty of doing the work. They left; Steve told me that Bone Dry had an expert "traveling" team of professional siding people and promised me that he'd get them to do the work. He left the materials with me. I didn't hear from him for several weeks, got no answer to my calls, and finally called the main line. I was connected with Jason; he told me that he was the new general manager and that both the old general manager and Steve had been let go. After I explained the situation, he too promised to make it right and that he would send "Manny" out on Oct 9th; Manny came--and he left. Too much for him too apparently, as he told me the fix was beyond his capabilities. I kept calling--eventually "Scott" contacted me and we arranged for him and a team of professionals to do the work on November 18, 2015. They came, and I showed them the area and brought out the materials that Steve had left with me way back in Sept. It looked like everything would be ok and I was pretty happy. I left--and my wife called me 90 minutes later to tell me that she had come home and found that no one was there. They had left without doing a thing, and they took all the materials with them. No phone call, no explanation, nothing. I finally got hold of Scott that afternoon after we'd missed each other several times (I initiated the calls). He said that the work to fix what they had done wrong would take a lot longer than anticipated and that he'd need the approval of the general manager to do anything. It's been 2 months since then--not a word. It's been 5 months since all this started--enough! Early in the process, with all the reassurances I had gotten from various people in Bone Dry, I had actually recommended them to others I knew needing work of various kinds as a company that stands behind their work--I made sure to go back to each one of them and tell them what had happened. I encourage you to be very, very careful with this company--I'd suggest going elsewhere.

    Dadstasks Painting and Remodeling LLC
The tacks on the original soffit was to widely spaced and there was no OSB board in place.  After taking down the damaged ceiling they noted that there was no room for an OSB board as this would require making changes all around the edges and require shifting the structural features as well.  They suggested adding 2x4's in between the current structure and this would allow tacking the new soffit with closer spacing which should prevent the damage from recurring.  They explained everything and made sure we understood the issue and the solutions before proceeding.
The original estimate was to do all the work in the span of a day and a half and the estimate was priced accordingly.  They were quite efficient and got the job done in one day.  The final invoice had the price reduced because of the half day that was not needed.

    Spivey's Premier Painting LLC

I found Spivey's on Angie's list and based on all of the positive comments they received for the quality of their work we decided to go with them.  I really didn't seek other quotes for the job so as far as the cost I don't have any comparable information to rate them on.  I will say the quality of the work was exceptional and Terry and his son did an outstanding job.  Terry showed up when stated to review what needed to be done and supplied us with a detailed quote when promised.  I've dealt with a few contractors the last couple of years and I can say without hesitation that Terry is the most responsive and honest contractor we've met.  With the quote we received a timeline of when the work would be completed and fortunately for us Terry had a last minute opening so was able to complete the work a month in advance.  Exterior of our house looks great!!

Contacted James Cox and received the proposal in June.  His company was very busy and he told me it would be late Fall before work was done so I knew to be patient. The material was delivered and his crew began the tear-off of all wood siding on my 120-year-old house. I wanted them to leave all of the original wood trim around the windows and on the corners. I was told that on old houses with a lot of old paint the tear-off of the siding could crack and remove wood trim. They were successful at leaving the trim and corners! They replaced 2 of 5 corner trims that were rotted out.  They went the extra mile to replace it with wood cut and trimmed to match the existing corners. They replaced the bottom freeze board with Hardie trim and installed special mounts for lights and electrical boxes.  The siding is perfectly level and smooth and square.  They did a fantastic job.  Of course they cleaned up all debris and nails and old wood and hauled it away.

    J & M Custom Construction Inc
I must admit that, as a member, I have been woefully remiss in my duties to file this report in a timely manner, However, the press of business and travel sometimes get in the way.

James Blom, owner of J & M Custom Construction is one of the most personable, and professional young men I have had the opportunity to do business with in some time. He obviously has lot of technical skill in his trade and works very hard at the customer service side of the business. That is often a rare combination these days.

This was by no means a big job for him, yet he treated it with the attention he would have given a much larger project. He knew it was important to me and approached the work with that in mind. He and his assistant were on time on those days they had committed to work and  completed the work as anticipated. On one day, while I was out of town on business, he called me to clarify how we had agreed to approach part of the job. I was pleasantly surprised, as many contractors would have not taken that extra step to confirm and just moved ahead.

Short story is that he and assistant were polite, professional, and punctual in performing the quotation and the execution of the work. The jobsite was left each day as though no one had been there, and my wife said that they were very respectful of our home at all times. I will truly be happy to have occasion to utilize the services of J & M again in the near future. It was truly an enjoyable experience and the results were excellent.

It went exactly as I had hoped. Although I was afraid the miserably damp and windy weather would require a cancellation, Mr. Spivey and his son arrived as promised at the time we had agreed to on the previous day.  After assuring me that the chemicals they would be using would work fine under these conditions, they went right to work and got the job done as promised. I had asked them to pay particular attention to our shutters, which had a coating of hard-to-remove material that drifts down from our pine trees, and to our gutters, which had a built-up line of dirt along the edge that was preventing rain water from rolling smoothly down into them. They did a great job in both these areas, as well as everywhere else. All of the annoying cobwebs that build up in the fall are gone, the siding and brick are clean and the sidewalks, front porch and back deck not only look good again but are also free of the areas of moss that can make them so treacherous in the winter.
As always when we have Spivey's do a job for us, I couldn't be more pleased.
