Driveway Pavers reviews in Kettering

    CJS Asphalt & Sealcoating
CJS did a great job. I had work done 2 years ago by a different company and was very disappointed in how their work held up. CJS repaired cracks with hot pour crack filler which is far superior to cold pour used by previous company. Worth the extra money. Will use again.

We got a few bids, and this was significantly cheaper than the others. Since the reviews on this site were good we hired them. I described what we were looking for as clearly as I could at the time of the bid (keep in mind my knowledge of paving, asphalt, etc. are very limited). When they showed up to begin the work, the owner said it made more sense to use a different technique (cutting out the depressions) rather than what we'd previously discussed. I told him that I would leave it to his judgement since I didn't know enough about asphalt, and that as long as we got the water off the lot and the holes repaired I'd be happy. In short, the cut-out method only replaced the parts of the drive where the water was collecting, not the areas where the water was running FROM, so the water was still pooling quite deeply after the first attempt. After months of back-and-forth and several more attempts to patch the pooling areas, the owner said he wouldn't be able to move all the water off the lot (it was now pooling in a different place, though not quite as badly). I am ambivalent about leaving a bad review; I'm pretty sure they didn't make money off our job, and they did try to make things good a few times, plus he went above-and-beyond when he widened the parking (removing some roots I thought I'd have to hire another contractor for). Unfortunately I think that maybe he didn't ask the right questions when doing the bid, or that he didn't understand how badly the water was pooling. I described the problems and what I thought the solution would look like to the best of my limited ability. When the parking lot was widened, the new edge of the lot was actually made even higher, so moving the water over the lot and down the hill became impossible. Attempts to move the water out the front or back of the property instead were not effective. They underestimated the amount of asphalt that would be needed to widen the lot, so ran out in the middle of the job. That meant the lot was not complete for weeks until they could come back with more. The most damning thing was that there was little or no communication from them as things progressed. They would leave the lot blocked off with cones or caution tape (not intending to return for a week or more), but not tell us when we could open it for use again, or if it was okay to let the dump truck through there to collect our dumpster. They wouldn't contact us for weeks, leaving us wondering if they were done on the job or just waiting for the right weather. The owner seemed frustrated that the job wound up being more expensive and time-consuming than he'd planned, but he did try to make things right. In the end, the seal-coating, painting, and finishing on the lot look good. The driveway is in better shape, but it's a short-term solution rather than the fix that I'd asked for, and we got to a point where we were frustrated enough trying to get to what we'd wanted in the first place that we settled.

All went well and, it looks great. They had not given me a date for the job and, arrived at my house and started without ringing the doorbell. Fortunately I heard them and got my car out of the garage before they got too far along.

They left a fresh crack horizontally from one side of the driveway to the other. They had sealant all on the grass even after I asked them to keep it off the vegetation which they said would be no problem. They even got it on the my garden hose wand. I already had some minor cracks before the sealant was applied so I asked him if they should be filled. He advised they did not need filled. After having the service done I did some research and found out that I should have in fact had them sealed. The did not even do all that he should have for what I paid. He called immediately that night to ask if the check has been mailed. He then called again the next day and actually showed up at my house without notice the very next morning.

This was a pretty big project, done 6 years ago. I was very happy at the time and I posted a positive review. But this Spring I noticed some significant problems with my driveway. I contacted them and asked them to look at the problem and come up with a a solution. They may or may not have come out, but they did not return repeated phone calls. I even wrote a letter and still got no response. It has been 6 years, and I did not expect them to fix it for free, but I did expect them to stand behind their work and make things right. Now I'll have to find another contractor. Their behavior is so different that my initial experience. I don't understand - it is very disappointing. This review is based on my attempts to contact them in the last two months and their lack of response and failure to stand behind their work.

Great to work with. On-time, responsive. We looked at 3-4 companies to do our repair. Driveway was basically crumbled for about 3 sq. ft at the bottom. Would work with them again in the future!

The workers were very professional and did a great job. I had purchased the $99 special on Angies List. My driveway turned out to be much longer than the 600 sq ft for the special so I had the additional charges.

Found CJS on Angies on-line special.
The end result was very good, but communication was not simple.  CJS really should consider a live-person phone answering service.  It quickly got old talking to voice-mail.
Work crew did a great job edging the grass and keeping the sealer on the asphalt.  However, there was minor, small splash onto the house siding (not visible from more than 10-15 feet away).  In all fairness, the asphalt is just an inch or two away from siding...but, the asphalt was layed down without touching the siding, so the sealer could have been too.
So because of communication and minor flaw in craftsmanship, I rated a "B."  That said, I'd still use them again.  It was good value.

They did not arrive when expected but, did make it that day.  They were very nice and discounted their price 10% as well as upgraded the crack fill to a hot pour because they had been delayed.  I did not ask for these things, they volunteered them.  They were quick and efficient.  I am pleased with how things turned out and, will use them in the future.
