    Patel, Dr. Amita R
I saw Dr. Patel for over a year after my previous psychiatrist left the area. While Dr. Patel is certainly a competent psychiatrist, there are many mitigating factors that would prevent me from recommending her services.
First off, it's terribly hard to get an appointment with her in a reasonable amount of time; I know this is the case w/ many psych. doctors, so I don't hold that against her too much. The office she shares with other practitioners is okay, but extremely cramped for the amount of traffic. This is made worse by the fact that my average waiting time (when I show up on time) is probably 45 minutes, which is unacceptable. Further, when dealing with her staff on the phone to handle prescription problems (for drugs and dosages I'd been on for years) on multiple occasions I was treated with what I can only describe a hostile attitude. It was anything but helpful. I finally decided to switch doctors after receiving no response to repeated requests for a refill of my years-long daily prescription.
Dr. Patel herself was very knowledgeable about drugs and managing symptoms, but every appointment I've had was extremely short. I felt like drug management was all she was doing; most of them could have been phoned in. Maybe this would not be the case with an as-yet undiagnosed patient, but I don't know.

    Constance Ange DO

She is very good.  She spends time with the person and really picks up on details.  She takes as much time as she needs but they are shorter appts than for a psychologist.  She is a DO.  She knows her stuff and she knows kids.  She took extra time one time and did not charge.

She does not take insureance - you can fill out papers and send in.  She works with different counselors in town.  We go to a counselor - we mainly use her for the medications.

    Hittle, Dr. Stephanie
I have seen Stephanie on and off for the past few years. She was recommended to me by members of my infertility support group. She was very helpful to me in how to deal with the stresses associated with infertility. She helped me get to a place where I was able to manage that stress on my own. I returned to her following the stillbirth of my son. Not only does she specialize in infertility counseling, she also specializes in pregnancy loss and grief counseling. Again, she was extremely helpful to me as I learned to process my grief. Stephanie made me feel very comfortable during my sessions which helped me open up and get the most out of my time with her. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is seeking counseling.

    Pistilli, Dr. Judith
My wife and I have been going to her sporadically for almost 20 years. She doesn't want to keep you any longer than it takes to resolve the issue that you have. She is really straight forward about telling you what you need to do and how to get it done. She does her job, saves you money, and gets results. She is still sensitive to your problems and feelings. She is hard to get an appointment with because she is that good. If you really have an emergency she will find a way to get you in.

    Katherine Hott MD
Dr. Hott prescribed meds for my husband and when we asked about side effects and duration of taking the meds, she blatantly lied to us. We asked about the long-term plan for these meds (because our plan was to use them for a short period of time during this work crisis) and her response was that most people need to be on a smal dose forever.  Because we had nowhere else to turn in a crisis situation, we continued to see her and eventually my husband decided to try titrating off the meds himself.  This didn't go well and he ended up in the hospital during Christmas.  During that time, he completely rid himself of the meds and we found another doctor.  Before even seeing this new doctor, we were asked to sign a blanket release form stating some patients are prescribed these kinds of medications and if one isn't careful, you can end up in the hospital with all of the symptoms my husband had!  This other doctor NEVER TOLD US THIS INFORMATION EVEN WHEN WE DIRECTLY ASKED HER!
Her office staff was friendly and we could tell they often felt trapped by the uncomfortable position in which she put them by calling out patients' personal medical informaiton in the waiting room.
This woman should not be treating patients.  She should seek treatment for herself.

    Hoskins, Dr. Jeanie
She is super, super knowledgeable. I am a complicated patient and she is not put off by that at all. I have actually seen many neurologists and she was my last hope. She was not put off by the complexity of my case and she sat down and talked with me formulating treatment plans and she actually changed my medication which was wonderful and she is talking to my other doctors who were also involved with treating me and will be actually doing more tests next month. I was just so impressed that she didn't just throw up her hands on me. I had neurologists throw my charts at me. She is willing to dive into something. I think that it is a really rare thing. Doctors see so many things and if it does not fit into a pattern, they get frustrated with us and they give up and send us out of the door. I was just really impressed with her professionalism and her staff. I had to wait for 6 weeks to get in to see her. We have to wait 3 to 6 months to get in to see some neurologists. Good doctors like her are very hard to get in to see. One of her staff gave me her email address and phone number and told me how to contact her if I had any problems with my medication in case I couldn't get through on the doctor's line, which no one has ever done before. She had heard some of my story and what all I have gone through and she reassured me that she'll not let me go.

    Valle, Dr. Michael J
He works with other doctors.  He's very polite and pleasant.  My husband likes him.  We would refer him to friends and family members.  One would have to make their appointments 3 months in advance because he's busy.  He's really good.

    Hartel, Dr. Walter C
I first came to Doctor Hartel because he was the ONLY Neuro-Ophthalmologist in the Dayton Ohio Area. After his treatment, my condition (MG) has gone into remission. He did an excellent job throughout my treatment. I continue to visit him annually now to keep a close watch on my condition. I would, and have, recommended Doctor Hartel to anyone needing a Neuro-Ophthalmologist.

One thing everyone who is a patient of Doctor Hartel knows - he is in great demand, and he tries to help everyone, so - you can expect to wait on him to see you, and for the entire visit could last 1-2 hrs. Bring something to read, or do, or just enjoy all the others in the waiting room who are usually joking about how long it takes.

NOTE: No one I have ever met has left or not come back for a follow up visit - because he is a great Doctor.

    Balster, Dr. Gary A
The staff will help you with setting an appointment convenient to your needs. Go early enough to fill out the necessary paper work, take your insurance card if you have insurance. Amount of time needed will be determined by you and the doctor. He does not, however, rush you in and out like many doctors do! Good location, eash to reach from anywhere. Pleasant and clean atmosphere. People of all kind and all ages see Dr. Balster. I have seen one other psychiarist who was very good but retired. Thank God for Dr. Balster. My life has been full of tragedy, it seems endless at times. In this day and age, it is not easy for anyone to cope with all of the problems we face ALONE. Don't even try.
