  • The house is on a slope. They were able to reach the height to stain the exterior. They are very focused on making sure the customer stays happy. I received multiple bids, they were price competitive. They gave me a list of references, I called them and everyone gave them great referrals. I would use them again and recommend their service. The work is very high quality.

  • We were extremely dissatisfied with both the quality of the work and the response to our concerns. After reading reviews, looking and photos of previous work, and meeting with Brian, we were told that a professional carpenter would be completing our job as he had completed others from the company in the past. An estimate totaling $2752.00 was quoted, and this is market value for the work of a professional familiar with industry standards. We were quoted a completion date of September 13. On October 13, nearly one month later, the cabinets were installed in our home. We were shocked by their quality and appearance. They contained surfaces that were improperly sanded; many of the surfaces had sanding residue in the finish; there were many unsquared and chattered saw cuts; there were exposed plywood edges, miss-cut trim, inappropriately gapped margins, and they had an overall rough surface texture. They were painted with one coat of paint using a cabinet roller, and some of the surfaces were not painted at all. (Photos are provided here). They in no way met industry standard, and not only a professional would see that; it was obvious to even the inexperienced. While we acknowledged that they were not yet fully finished at this phase, the majority of the quality issues that existed should have been addressed in the shop prior to installation. In addition, while installing them, Brian and his crew sawed into our existing drywall, inappropriate cut our current wood wainscoting, failed to cover our furniture, and left layers of dust and debris throughout our family room and adjoining eating area that we were left to clean. Because of this quality of construction, we were hesitant to allow Brian to continue with the job until we could meet to address the issues. We sent him items of concern, and each was negated, with Brian simply indicating that the job was not yet complete. In an attempt to set up a meeting to discuss the manner in which to move forward, he wrote that he was “not interested in discussion that involved a negative financial impact to myself or my company.” This was after we had invested $1376 as a down payment for materials. When Brian did agree to meet at our home, we learned that the carpenter who had previously worked for his company no longer did, and that our work had not been completed by the professional that we were told would complete it. Brian seemed to have no knowledge of industry-standard carpentry, telling us that he was “aware of aesthetic issues,” but never addressing the quality of the construction or a reasonable manner to solve the construction issues. He often referred to “industry standards” as something that we should have established as our expectation before he started the work. After the meeting, we prepared a request to remedy, which was based in Brian beginning with a sample of the work that would be performed from there on as the job was completed – we wanted to see a finished sample of one door and one shelf before allowing further work. It was an assurance to us that the cabinets would meet the quality standard that is established in the industry. Brian twice refused our request, stating that “he didn’t have an interest in continuing to go back and forth as all that does is continue to raise costs.” To us, this was not additional cost – it was work that would need to be completed regardless in order to finish the job. It also indicated that he cared more about his bottom line than customer concerns. At this point, we are over two months into this process, and we have paid $1376 for cabinetry that is of no use to us and of an unsalvageable quality – it must be removed, and the damage done to the walls to which it is attached, the cut in our drywall, and our inappropriately cut wainscot must also be repaired at our expense. Brian has only used some of the materials listed on the initial estimate, but is charging us for all of them AND the labor beyond that. He refuses to refund us our money for the creation of an inferior product or simply even refund the money beyond the materials installed in our home. If you are looking to begin any type of home improvement, we cannot recommend Fresh Starts Home Improvement based on our experience. The work that we received was not the work advertised, and our struggles to have it remedied have consistently been met with opposition.

Did some wall repair that turned out amazing....looks like brand new drywall. Extremely pleased with services, would use again, and highly recommend! Price was reasonable and included paint.

  • I called Roger of Davy Painting, he quickly returned my call and made and appointment to come out and look at our job. We originally asked about painting our barn as well but after meeting with Roger he recommended waiting a few years since the paint on the barn was in good shape. This saved us thousands of dollars. Roger kept in close contact as our job approached. When it was time to start our job we heard from Josh who ran the crew as often as necessary to make sure we were aware of when they would be working or if there were any changes in the schedule. We have cedar siding on our house and garage that was in need of paint, especially the sides exposed to the weather. They did an excellent job preparing both structures to be painted with power washing and caulking. We were so pleased that we ended up adding the inside of our garage on to our job and they completed this as well. They entire crew worked very diligently and a few long days and got the entire job done in less than a week. We could not be happier with the quality and service of this company.

  • I was very pleased with both experiences. The owner was prompt with scheduling his estimate visits and provided the written estimates within a day or two. When he needed to schedule out a few weeks, he kept us in mind and got his crew to the house more quickly than originally anticipated. The painters were all capable and friendly. I think they went out of their way to make sure everything was done with a high degree of care. I had a concern about a rough patch on an exterior wall, and the company took care of it right away. I was pleased enough with the first job to do the second, which says it all.

  • Through a referral from a friend who was also a recent customer of Coat of Many Colors, we were referred to Mike Decker's firm.  It was our good fortune to hire Mike Decker and his crews for our project.  It was clear from the start that the team was very much concerned about quality and diligently performed the work in a timely manner.  Each day that they worked, they cleaned up their work site, which was appreciated.  What struck us was not only was the quality concerns that the team displayed but how well they worked together and anticipated each other's next moves.  To us this indicated the quality of the leadership that Mike Decker brings with his team.  We would highly recommend Mike and his Coat of Many Colors team for your painting needs.

  • Bruce did a great job stripping the paper.  He then skim coated the gouges (which were bound to happen since the paper hadn't been sized).  He put two coats of paint on the walls making it looke very nice.  
    He brought his brother in to do the rest of the house while he did paper removal.  He did a great job rolling on paint cutting in.
    If he was going to be late he communicated that promptly, and stayed longer than he thought he would have to so the job got done.

  • I have used this company to paint the outside of my house and chose them to do interior work.  Kevin was punctual in getting back with me and was able to do the work on the dates that I requested.  Both Kevin and Richard are friendly and do a good painting job.  My only complaint is that I think that they should have covered things better to avoid paint spatter (dots).  Now that I am starting to clean up I am discovering the spatter and dots especially on the stair railing, the wood floors, leather couch and ottoman.  I have been  able to get most of  the Paint off with elbow grease and time.   Still haven't been able to get off of ottoman or areas of stairs. I expect to always have a bit of spatter that gets through, but I think this is a bit excessive. I would use them again but insist that everything be covered.
