Install customer owned new A -coil and add coolant.
Did not want to perform what I asked for. Kept upselling new outside unit ($2,500), that I did not need. I had to tell to put a screw in that he took out and he was not going to unless I requested it. He put it back in. He stated it was going to hold anyway. He ask me if he could have the old A-coil stating that he was going to use it for refrigerator he was building. Old A-coil is worth $16 bucks at scrap yard, probably was going to sell it. General bad attitude. On the good side, no issues with the unit since install.
Service Provider Response
I am so sorry this customer feels this way! First of all this customer called me and wanted service but did not want to pay the service charge and I offered to come out and drop the service call if he allowed my bid on the work. I was ask to install this customers airconditioning coil, he told me it was a 2.5 ton coil and when I looked over the system I found that ths system was a 1.5 ton out door heat pump Haire unit from Tons an out let for heating and airconditioning equipment. I told the customer that I had previously handled some of those units and had much trouble with leaks in them, this was why he had called me to replace his coil that some other service person told him was leaking the freon out. the system was empty, I preformed the install of a coil that he provided and was told to me that it was a 2.5 ton coil? at that point I tryed to inform the customer that it is not recomended to place a 2.5 ton evap coil with a 1.5 ton out door heat pump unit and recomended replacement to match his system properly, he insured me that he was willing to try his coil any way so I did, I installed what he was calling a 2.5 ton coil and by the way there was no information on the coil he provided to tell what size coil it was and after I installed his coil he then wanted me to evacuate the system and charge it up. to in stall his coil I charged $300. to evacuate system to a deep vaccum I charged $60. and to in stall 7 + pounds of freon I charged $ 400. most other companys charge $80.- $100. pre pound wich would be much higher than what I ask, for a total of $ 760....I tryed to be profesional and courtious but at the same time I dident want to do much work and services that may not work out for this customer, in the end when I started his heat pump for airconditioning it did run ok meaning that his in door evaporatop coil must have been a 2.ton coil not a 2.5 ton coil, any way with this type of unit utlizing R -22 refrigerent it is usuly ok to up size the coil 1/2 ton and in this case that is what did happen, this is the kind of thing that happens when customers get there own parts trying to save money. I did not charge this customer the service charge to save him!.. along with discounting my freon to a much lower price also. I allways try my best to please the customer and I have a good track record with very few - to none call backs thanks for reading and have a nice day.....Paul Allen H,V,A,C,
