  • It went well both times. The glass-block install was one gentleman. He explained the entire project to me and got right to work. He worked nonstop most of the day and cleaned the area as he went. We were very pleased with the work and still marvel at how clean and modern our home looks with the glass-block basement windows. The second time we hired them was to replace original windows throughout our home. The proposal was a decent price, but not the cheapest overall; however, we had such a good experience the first time, we decided to go with them again. The install took two days with two workers. Overall, we were fairly pleased with the work. There were a few minor annoyances, but we didn't bother to call. All things we decided we could live with. The issue has come after the fact. I called several times to get a pane of glass replaced and some seals looked at following the polar vortex in 2015. After my initial contact, someone called me back months later. I was traveling and didn't follow-up until this past spring. Same situation. This time the woman asked me to send a pic of the warranty sticker. I did, but no one ever called. I think of it periodically and just need to push the issue. I'll admit, I am just as guilty for not pursuing the matter more aggressively.

  • I take some of the responsibility for the experience I had with this professional. I had just worked a double shift;
    I was really tired and not thinking clearly. The professional arrived early. He told me about how long he would need to pressure wash the house then he started working once I gave him access to water and electricity. I had asked for an estimate for cleaning the gutters as well but he'd forgotten to give me one. Therefore, I reminded him while he was washing the house. As a result, he charged me half of what gutter cleaning normally costs. Here's where the problem started. He said he was finished and asked to show me his concerns. He showed me where I had weak and rotten wood around my windows. That was great. But then he said goodbye and thank you. I felt like something was wrong but I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. I looked so upset that he asked what was wrong. After a good night's sleep, I was able to figure it out. He didn't give me any paperwork or anything else! Every year when I get my gutters cleaned, the other companies give me a garbage bag full of residue from my gutters. This professional had none. I had to ask him if he found anything in them. I have no proof that he actually did the gutters. Also, normally, pressure wash professionals give a description of the treatment process and a list of anything used to protect the house. Not this guy. Lastly, there were a few places that didn't come clean. Overall, the house looks better than it did before this guy came and his price was fair. He was also nice. I'm just used to having detailed records and a bit more customer service. If you are on a budget, go for it! I don't plan to use Hurd again but it's better than nothing at all.

    Update: Wow! I am amazed at the reply from this contractor! First of all, Angie's list has a billing address for me. That is not the same as the actual address that I use them for and no other contractor has shown up at the wrong address! Second of all, THE "CONTRACTOR" DID NOT SAY, "WE ONLY USE WATER." I could have just used water myself! That was the point of hiring a professional. The house also has not been neglected for 10 plus years. Anyone that knows Cleveland Heights knows this isn't allowed; especially on my street which is apart of Noble Neighbors Neighborhood Watch. He also states that he didn't forget about doing the gutters but then says that I reminded him of doing the gutters. He is admitting to his lies in his own statement. Also, he removed 2 branches not 12 because C & C painters and gutters had just removed them. The only paperwork that I was given was the size of a postcard; it was to complete a review on Angie's list. This is the only "company" from Angie's list without any paperwork. Lastly, I did not take "15 minutes" to get a check. He "forgot" to mention that I handed him a credit card and he said (after staring at it like it was a foreign object), "I'm not equipped to accept those." So, I then went in and came out with a check. He didn't ask me too either so I'm not sure what the wisecrack was about me "forgetting" that I owed him $25. This contractor is offended because of an honest review and now he is insulting me and says he wouldn't return. Wow! I really don't have much proof that he was there the first time.

  • I wrote a positive review on this company and requested Angies list to remove my review for the following reasons. I purchased a big deal for $ 1,599.00 and paid $5,175.00.  It has been over a year and I have not received an invoice or any manufactor warranties that have been requested. I needed to have a bathroom completely redone and Mr. Delauro reviewed the work.  Just like other reviews I had the same problem of this company coming unprepared which cost me a considerable amount of money. Work would be started by one and the other worker would need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to get materials. This meant I was paying for 2 workers and only 1 was working. The work was completed satisfactorily and I gave Mr. Delauro a check for $5,175.00 but did not receive a bill of a break down of number of hours, purchase receipts for numerous trips to Lowe's and Home Depot  and I did not receive manufacture warranties on a window installed or on bathroom glass doors. I spoke to Mr. Delauro last June 2015 requesting all above information and I told him that a crack was forming on the bathroom wall. He offered to fix it but also said the house was probably shifting.What?? Really the house was shifting-Really!!  I did not ask for him to come back since it would of cost me more money. I also requested the manufacture warranty on the glass doors since I am having consistent problems. He offered to fix them but that is not what I wanted. I want the warranties. a invoice of a breakdown of what I paid for including hours  for my future records.  I am Not happy.

  • They arrived on time and did a decent job of cleaning up.  There was a problem found after they left with the gutter in the front.  I immediately called and they were back out the following work day to replace the gutter.  Now we need a decent rain to really test the work.

I like that they are professional and competent and feel that they are never taking advantage of me price wise. I highly recommend them to anyone! I always feel comfortable and at ease when they are working in my home. I never feel taken advantage of with them!

  • Installers arrived on time (actually earlier than the scheduled time, which was fine)

    They removed our new storm door, removed our old entry door, installed our beautiful new fiberglass entry door, added new trim, re-installed  the storm door.

    They were done in a few hours and cleaned up, and away they went.

    The installers were friendly and professional, they knew what they were doing!

    After the install, we realized the deadbolt was a bit "notchy" to lock, so I called Universal Windows and they sent a service tech out within a few days, in those few days, the deadbolt seemed to "work in" so to speak, well when the service tech. arrived, I told him it seems fine now, but he still wanted to take a look, "it feels as if its dragging a bit" he says, he made an adjustment to the hinges, and now its like a hot knife thru butter!  AWESOME service!
