    Curry, Dr. Trace W.
Overall I lost 19 pounds in the first 5 weeks, which was a little disappointing because I was only eating 500 calories a day and didn't cheat much. Dr. Curry offered to let me continue on the program at 50% off the regular price of Adipex, which is a prescription appetite suppressant. I have to say that I think the program is expensive, but I'm now down 31 pounds in 6 months and I feel like I know how to keep it off this time.

    Northup, Dr. Joe C.
He's a very caring and understanding person.  He explains in detail everything that he is doing.  He also is very clear and articulate about the procedure at what is going to be done.  His staff is very caring before and after surgery.

Outstanding weight loss results! Caring and knowledgeable physicians and staff provide individual counseling and options throughout the program. I lost fat in areas that never seemed to reduce before - for me that was my thighs. I also lost more weight than I have on other programs. I had energy and stamina. I found this to be a fairly easy and very effective weight loss program.

The people @ this facility including Dr. Curry are awesome. I was afraid but they calmed me down and took excellent care of me. I would recommend Dr. Curry to anyone interested in weight loss through his supplements/meal replacements or even surgery.

    Northup, Dr. Joe C.
I experienced post-op pain.  Upon calling the office, I was instructed to walk more.  I am not a wimp nor do I seek out pain medication.  I am a registered nurse.  Walking wasn't doing it!  I do not feel Dr. Northup took my concerns seriously.  Pain persisted for weeks.   I shared my disappointment at a post-op visit.  The doctor did apologize. In other interactions, I asked questions and was told, "you don't need to worry about that now."  I am not a worrier.  If I ask a question, I am seeking knowledge and want an answer. My last visit to the office, I was asked in reception to fill out a confidential survey.  I did so and noted my concerns with communication and feeling like a number or widget.  When the physician entered the exam room, he said "so I hear you aren't too happy with us."  So much for confidential...  He procedeed to yell and lecture me for the next 10 minutes. The office staff are nice.  Wait times are minimal.  This physician was not a good match for me.  I won't go back!

I had a gastric bypass in 2002 and subsequently gained a significant amount of weight back (about 50% of what I lost).  Dr. Watkins advertised that he performed band-over-bypass surgeries with success.  Insurance would not cover the surgery, so I paid the $17,500 for the surgery (with lab fees) myself.  I lost a little bit of weight at the start, but it came back quickly and I maintained my pre band over bypass weight for quite awhile.  Eventually, I began to lose weight because I modified my eating habits and began to exercise. After I had the gastric bypass, I had trouble digesting most foods and would vomit often after eating.  This continued with the band over bypass, except no food would come up.  I would just retch endlessly.  I have also repeatedly suffered from bleeding ulcers, which doctors believe are caused by food remaining in my stomach pouch and generating acid that causes the bleeding.   After my last bout with a bleeding ulcer, my GI doc recommended I see someone about having my initial bypass revised and having the lap band removed as it was not helping me to lose weight and could actually be causing some of my problems.  The doctor she referred me to concurred and they both went so far as to say the band over bypass surgery should never have been done, particularly without doing a simple barium test to determine the size and location of my stomach.  So, I'm gearing up to have the band removed and surgery redone and it certainly won't be by Dr. Watkins. One other point, if you do go ahead with the lap band, be prepared to get stuck multiple times during adjustments for them to find the port.  They said mine was so hidden they had to draw a map.  My doc's nurse at Jewish has hit it on the first try every time.

The speed and efficiency of booking and getting the procedure were impressive, but, perhaps, that should have been a tip off. I have better things to do with my life, money and time than have to have Dr. Watkins' ill-advised and unsuccessful surgery, which severely affected my life and had a substantial monetary cost. I eventually lost the weight on my own, but struggled with extreme difficulties eating until Dr. Watkins' lap band was removed by another surgeon. Essentially, the passage to my stomach permitted food to go down, but my stomach rebelled and caused me to either throw up or have uncontrollable dry heaves because it was too hard to get the food up through the lap band. Just my opinion and those of a couple esteemed docs.

The surgery went fine. I WOULD NOT HOWEVER HAVE THE SURGERY AT THEIR FACILITY. MORE THAN LIKELY YOUR INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER THE SURGERY IN THEIR FACILITY. Pay the extra ad go to the hospital. And the hospital is safer (think Joan Rivers). I would recommend you BEWARE of their assessment of your insurance all together. I was told that the procedure would not be covered under my insurance. So I put the cost (approx $14,000) on a credit card. Eight months later I contact my insurance about my sleeve procedure and THEY WOULD COVER IT. So I filed a claiM...only to be told by Dr Curry's jOURNEYLITE office that the procedure was actually $38,000 (they were giving me a "bargain" at $14,000 because the insurance would not pay) and any more $$ that my insurance paid they would take. This is AFTER I PAID $14,000. They did refund approx $4000 from the "Dr Curry" side of this facility, but the surgical part they re-billed as $38,000 when I requested they send the info to my insurance It's a scam. I also have Medicare but they did not process my claim thru Medicare. If I were to do it again I would go to the one at UC.
