This was a big project and took three days to complete. Crew arrived around 7:30am and worked until after 9pm to get the majority of the house done. Second day crew arrived 7:15am (due to pending rain, completed rubber roof for the front porch and garage. Site Manager Andy showed up a total of five times during the three days and even went to the warehouse to get more wood for roof and porch. Only issue is crew refused to close off two old vents to make sure new vent system worked properly, edge vents, lower part of roof, and ridge vent on crown of roof. In the end Andy went up into the attack to close the old vents. Andy made sure the roof on house and garage were completed by Tuesday to make sure the house would be ready for the gutter crew arriving Wednesday. Overall crew worked hard did a good job cleaning up my yard and roof and gutters look good.

Great. Was early. Called ahead. Got straight to work. Took the time to put on protective clothing and sheets to keep the house spotless. Cleaned up everything when done. Educated me on my system. Very professional, good person. My chimney didn't need anything and no attempts to upsell. Will use again in the future and highly recommend.

They were thorough with it, they did a camera, showed us exactly what they were going to do, and they showed the before and after pictures of it. Because it was shortly after Christmas, he said there was something stuck there, and he pulled out a piece of red velvet showing that Santa got bagged as he went up the chimney. I thought that was very cute. I didn't have any problems with them, and they went above and beyond what they were doing by entertaining children in the house. We scheduled a time, and they arrived before that, they gave us an estimate of how long they would be there, and they didn't go over.

Great. So happy with this company. Second time we used them. Always on time personable and professional. Always used the foot booties and didn't try to oversell what we needed. Couldn't be happier.

Provider originally installed liners and caps on two chimneys on my 100+ year old house a few years back.   The work was completed very satisfactorily.  They call every year about cleaning our fireplace chimney, but since we only have one fire a year, I have not had them perform that service for awhile.  This spring, a big wind blew off the cap of my fireplace chimney and I called Blackburns to see about them coming out to replace it.  They said they would be out and did not need anyone to be home to accomplish the job.  Estimate to replace the cap was approximately $175.  After a few weeks of nothing being done, I called again and seems like they lost track of the work needing to be done.  At that time they scheduled a service call, the day came and went and no one showed up.  Finally I called and was told that the serviceman could not complete the work as it was raining and they would reschedule.  Again time went by and contacted again and another service call was scheduled, but about an hour before it was cancelled and told they would reschedule.  Needless to say, they never called to reschedule and we never bothered calling them again.  We have since called someone else to do the repairs.

They came out the week before and gave me an estimate. Said he would be out next week and did exactly as he said. He was here the next week, just as he said. Upon climbing to the roof, we found that the chimney was not a square shape. It was a rectangle shape. a 3and quot; pipe was too small. a 4and quot; pipe was too big. Taking the chimney down was the only solution to get to a larger aprt of the chimney so the pipe could be run to the furnace. The next day A-1 had some work to finish on another job in Columbus, so we had to wait. They promptly returned the 3rd day and built the chimney up and fixed the wall inside the house.

In the 30 years since we lived in this house (built in late 1950s) we have been troubled by deteriorating stucco on our chimney despite having it restucco'd three times. This summer we received estimates from three companies to repair the chimney - for $900, $2500 and JVP's for $5000! The lower two proposed only replacing the stucco covering and caulking/sealing the chimney cap.
But John was very clear that we could only get long lasting results by doing something drastically different. He proposed tearing down the top five courses of block, rebuilding them and then capping with limestone rock instead of cement. Then stucco on the exterior of the repair.
Higher cost, but he took the time to 1) look beyond an easy, quick fix and 2) explain to us the reasons for his recommendations. He also wouldn't do a quick fix because he said he knew we would be calling him back unhappy about the long term outcome.
John's employees worked long and hard to get the job done. They were polite, cleaned up reasonably well when the job was done and spoke highly of the owner (that was impressive).
So far so good ... the chimney looks great, the moisture problems we were having inside along the chimney wall have stopped. Now we'll see how it holds up over the next 4-5+ years but I am hopeful.

Requested an inspection for a home being purchased. Availability of the premise was restricted until 4 pm. The person on the phone at Whempy's said it was their slow season, but they could not come out that late. If business is slow, you would think they would be more accommodating.
They also call quite frequently to my existing residence to solicit business. They claim I am a returning customer, but I have never used them and never will now.

Called the day before the appt for the cleaning and inspection to let us know what time they would arrive.  Arrived on time and worked diligently focused on the task.  Provided quick feedback on issues with photos to clearly show the problems and what was needed to correct the problem.

He was very prompt, dependable and easy to work with.  He cleaned up the debris very nicely.  The chimney looks good.  He had to work on a steep grade roof from ladders on one side, not an easy job.  He was most professional.  A  neighbor has the same problem and he also plans to use Dave, since Dave's price is well below two other estimates he received.
