    MIAMI VALLEY CHIMNEY INC
They are the only company that said I needed to remove the old tiles on the inside of my chimney before putting in a new liner. Other companies said they could gerryrig it. No way. They spent a day knocking out the tile and a day doing the lining and brick work. They cleaned up the work site each day. They took the time to show me what they were doing. No, I didnt climb the scaffolding to see the top! But I looked up the chimney to see that the tiles were removed and then again once the lining was in. They did an excellent job and would definitely recommend them. FYIThey were the highest bid but not too much over the other bids. But you get what you pay for and when dealing with a chimney, I want guaranteed excellence. And I got it. I took a picture of the crown. Wish I had a before and after couldnt get one of the liningjust too dark.

    Moseley Masonry Chimney Sweep, Inc
Mark Moseley came out to inspect for quote when he said he would. Quote was done quickly and they were able to come out within a couple of weeks. The two workers were courteous. I was hoping Mark would actually come out and inspect the work done but he didn't. Also when I got the quote I told him I got his name from Angie list. I had forgotten to tell him that I had a 10% off coupon for the work done and called the office to ask if I could still use it. The office worker said no I should've told him before hand. I don't understand what difference it what is going to make unless they were going to increase the price knowing that I had a coupon. So I am hoping, since I know nothing about chimneys, that the work that was done was done well.

Very well done. Broken bricks at top of 50+ year old chimney removed and replaced with concrete cap. Good bricks that were removed were used to replace broken ones elsewhere. Tuckpointing from roof up. Chimney power washed. Looked very good when finished.

    Joe Center Home Improvement LLC
Joe replaced our master bedroom and staircase carpet with hardwood, and they look beautiful. He even returned a couple of times to assess the staircase planks and ensure they were remaining strongly in place. We had a large portion of our wall removed for some internal plumbing work, and Joe repaired it in such a way that we can't tell where the work was done. He also painted three rooms in our home and assisted us choose a high quality paint with the finish we wanted. In addition, Joe refurbished a brick sidewalk of ours that was deteriorating and painted a leak stain in our stomped ceiling. Finally, we wanted a special "cat door" completed for our elderly cats, and it turned out perfectly (the kitties love it and so does mommy). I highly recommend Joe for any job. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest, fair with his pricing, reliable and overall a nice and professional gentleman.

I could not be more pleased with Wes and the crew that did the work. Attention to detail and working with us on minor changes as the work progressed were highlights of this project. This project took several weeks to complete.

    Moseley Masonry Chimney Sweep, Inc
Provider recommended course of action first liners than chimney caps because of interior leaks. I agreed with prognosis but had to put caps on. Tuck pointing was good, and effort was made to match color of mortar. Mosley was the most responsive of masonry companies I contacted.

    Ram Restoration - Eighth Enterprise
Overall, the results were adequate.  Ram's cost estimate was very low compared to others I received.  Ram sent a rather junior person to do the estimate.  Our job was small, so that was not surprising.  However, I felt like other companies sent more experienced people that better explained what work they would do and why.  I chose Ram based on price, and their team seemed professional.  After signing a contract, Ram took nearly three weeks to schedule a work date, and that was only after I called to ask what was taking so long.  I was not confident their office staff was very well organized after that.
Work proceeded okay, but I think they may have underestimated the difficulty of removing and re-pouring the concrete stoop.  They initially showed up with only hand tools (sledgehammer) and within a few hours realized they needed to bring a jack hammer.  This delayed the job until the next day when they had a suitable truck and jackhammer.  Repair to the damaged wall went well, and that portion of the job was perfectly fine.
Re-pouring the stoop did not go like I would have preferred.  First, possibly due to the delay in removal, they began pouring concrete late in the day.  Their concrete guy was at our house until about 9:00 pm to make sure it was setting correctly.  I had to bring him a work light.  The whole thing seemed poorly planned, but he was courteous and professional.  Also, they mixed concrete in a wheel barrow from about 20 bags of Quickcrete, which they stored in my garage.  I would have expected a professional service such as Ram would have brought a portable mixer given the amount of concrete required.
In the end, the stoop looks okay.  They turned a single step into a two-step, which I did not specifically ask for, but it looks nice.  They applied a stucco treatment to the concrete which I do not particularly like (and was unaware of), but it wasn't the end of the world.  The only remaining issue was, when they re-installed the siding to the damaged wall, they did not firmly re-attach the side channel.  This side channel had been pulled away from the brick corner when the old stoop sunk (it had dropped about 3 inches).  Without the attached side channel, the vinyl siding flopped around about halfway up the wall and a noticeable gap was visible.  I mentioned this in the final inspection, and Ram's representative stated they would come out to repair the problem.  They even took a sample of the colored adhesive used to attach the original channel. I withheld a portion of final payment until this repair was completed.  In the end, they never came to rectify the situation.  I called Ram several times and spoke to office reps, but my phone calls were never returned.  Eventually, they sent me a final statement and discounted me the withheld amount.  This was, in my mind, adequate compensation.  However, felt like communication throughout the project was kind of weak, and this last task solidified that view.

They didn't do a very satisfactory job. I had used them before. There was a problem with the guy that was the supervisor of the job. The siding job I did with them wasn't even good. They didn't finish it. There were somethings that they did well. It depended on which painter came out. There was one that was very messy and one that was very neat. I still have paint splattered on different things that I have to clean-up. They took woodwork off and then didn't put it back. I ended up with all of the woodwork in the garage and I'm not sure how to put it back. It's not usable. That didn't work out well. The guy that took over the project tried to get things worked out. My insurance paid for it, but they were higher on price. When they said that they were going to be here, they generally were.

    ABBEY ROAD CHIMNEY SWEEPS INC
The provider's work was just as estimated in terms of the extent of the job. Replacing a water heater that vented into an old (about 150 years) chimney knocked loose a lot of debris - it had probably never been cleaned. The access point was bricked over. They cut into the wall with minimal mess and noise for solid brick. They were able to clean out years of debris including bird and squirrel nest material. They patched some problem areas. They ran a new vent from the cellar up to the top and installed a new cap system. They prepped the pipes for the water heater and sealed up the area. It was a pretty messy job and they cleaned the area before leaving. A few bumps in the process meant the job took longer than planned but they completed the work thoroughly and as fast as possible. The job was not inexpensive, but the amount of labor and material required for this cleaning and repair was reasonable.
