    Four Square Home Inspections
They did a wet removal from the walls and sealed it. They built some interior walls in the basement and semi-finished the basement by laying a floor and redid some wiring that we discovered was incorrect. They were generally very punctual. They were not inexpensive, but the quality of their work made up for it. It took some time to get the work done as it was a single person that came out. Four Square Restorations Inc. was terrific.

He does not do that type of work but he gave me a ton of information. He was very nice on the phone. I was impressed that he was as helpful as he was.

Would highly recommend for lead testing. They tested all painted surfaces inside and out of the house for lead and also performed dust wipe testing, provided a very extensive report of the results, and were very responsive to questions afterwards.

    Smartland Residential Contractors
Cleveland Restoration Group (which as I understand will soon be known as Cleveland Development) provided several different estimates (encapsulation, paint removal, restoration, and rebuilding) for these chimneys as they were in need of repair in addition to having peeling lead-based paint. In the end, we went with simple encapsulation. This company is licensed for lead abatement and the project was overseen by someone clearly knowledgeable about lead based paint issues. The work itself was contracted out though the contractor was courteous, responsive and interested in doing quality work. The site was checked regularly by Cleveland Restoration Group to make sure lead safe protocols were followed and quality standards were maintained. The project took a little longer than anticipated (which was partly weather related).

    HEIGHTS ENTERPRISES
Job went very well. Lead abatement preparation and removal of baseboard and wallpaper took one day; preparation of rooms for painting, and priming of same, took several days. Work in both phases was done thoroughly, meticulously, and cheerfully. The painter Robert hired was absolutely first rate, highly skilled and knowledgeable. We (homeowners) learned a good deal from explanations given and answers to questions about procedures, materials, and issues to be dealt with in both phases of this project, which will enable us to proceed better with other projects on our list. We greatly appreciate the comprehensive knowledge and experience of Heights Enterprise owner Robert Pullan, especially his expertise with houses of our vintage in Shaker Heights, as well as his knowledge and experience with Shaker Heights' approvals process. We have already discussed additional projects with him and are moving forward with them. We strongly recommend Heights Enterprises to anyone concerned to have quality work done in a timely fashion at a fair price.

Mike came out and measured for new gutters and downspouts as well as some new windows on my second level. He was professional and very friendly. I received my quote shortly after he came out to my house. The bid was right on with what I expected. He explained that my house may have had lead paint and that there is an EPA sanctioned installation process that helps to keep my children and pregnant wife free from lead exposure. He did a quick test and found that lead was present. I really appreciated the fact that he tested to make sure. The windows were installed perfectly. When the gutters were installed, it turned out that the fascia board under the old gutters was not painted. The installer stopped and pointed out to me that the board should be painted. Instead of continuing the job, he asked me if I knew someone who could paint them and also offered a name of someone who could take care of painting. Once the paint was applied and dried, the installer came back out and finished the job. It seems to me that it is rare for contractors to complement other contractors work. I had other projects going on at the same time and several of the workers commented on what a nice job Midwest had done. I will be having them come back to do more windows in the future.

    SAFEAIR CONTRACTORS INC
THEY COULDN'T DO THE WORK RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF AN OVERLOAD IN THEIR WORKLOAD AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE WHO WAS LICENSED TO DO THE WORK. THEY WERE VERY HONEST AND UP FRONT AND THEY GAVE ME A COUPLE OF OTHER RESOURCES TO TRY.

Akbar Tyler / Tyler General Construction
Lead abatement in my rental property, though I was familiar with lead poisoning because of my daughter, was uncharted territory for me. I thought I had everything under control, and though my situation was minor, I learned a lot from this process. Mr. Tyler kept me abreast of what was going on, despite his hectic schedule.

    Ace It Construction
It was a great experience. We contacted many contractors for estimates. Ace It impressed us from the beginning because they were very responsive to our initial contact. Dave (the owner) came out within a few days to make measurements and give an estimate. He was very willing to talk about the project in detail and answer any questions I had. When his quote was one of the lowest we got, it was an easy choice. Once the work started, a few weeks later, we were not disappointed. Dave handled everything permit-related with no problems. His crew showed up on time and worked a full day. They were very pleasant and courteous. At the end of every work day, they cleaned up before heading out. Once the job was finished, Dave came by again a few days later to look it over. We had noticed a few minor items that needed to be fixed (e.g., a ripped screen), so I gave him my items, and he added several more to the list that he wanted his crew to come back and improve. We have looked around the house for any stray lead paint on the ground, since that was the reason for getting the work done in the first place, and have found little to none. Everything about the job was handled very professionally, and we would definitely hire Ace It again.

It was surprisingly difficult to find a referral for a lead inspector for this purpose. I was shocked that our realtor had never had a buyer request a lead based paint inspection as a contingency given that the majority of houses in this area were built well before 1978 (Shaker Heights). I'm a pediatrician and take lead based paint exposure very seriously and have 2 young children. I found CTG by searching the internet and after calling other companies that couldn't provide the full services I wanted, which included the XRF technology. Dave Meyer was extremely helpful when I first spoke to him on the phone to help me figure out the kind of inspection I wanted. We had a visual inspection, the XRF to detect presence of lead based paint on every surface, and dust/soil samples to look for lead hazards. The XRF was $500 and the samples were $100, which was less expensive than the only other person I had called that had access to an XRF (he had quoted 700-800 over the phone). Dave Brenner was our inspector and he was amazing! He took the job very seriously as he knew it was for child safety and was extremely thorough. I would definitely recommend them to someone purchasing a house--especially if you are considering doing renovations--that was built prior to 1978 (and I did already recommend them to a friend). Lead exposure is no joke and it doesn't seem like most people in this area take it seriously enough. Where I lived before in St. Louis you could have a free inspection done by the city if you were pregnant or had a child under the age of 6 but here you can only get that if there is a child with an elevated lead level, at which point the damage has already been done
