    Mountainview Contracting LLC
They were trying to pour concrete in 90 degree weather, and it was drying faster than they could finish it. 1/3 of the concrete turnaround had no finish. The Mountainview owner wanted to tear out part of the concrete and redo it, but all of it needed to be torn out due to poor quality. I refused to allow them to do the other 1/2 of the job (which was to replace the gravel driveway with concrete). The concrete had unevenness, the finish was poor, and there were holes in the concrete at the ends of the joints, so water could get in. They splattered concrete on part of the walkway next to the turnaround. They left two 2-foot high piles of concrete at the end of the driveway because the cement truck ran out of water.

    Eagle Landscaping Inc
The patio is simply beautiful. John guided me in picking out the brick for the patio and the Unilock block for the wall that would create an "old" feel to the space as I had pictured. I sketched out a plain old square patio, and John enhanced my sketch by created a round design with a semi-circle of a sitting wall on one third of it. I get nothing but compliments. Everyone is amazed at the complexity of the bricks and the banding with the UniLock pavers. John is very detail oriented and takes pride in the quality, longevity and beauty of his creations. They also solved my longtime drainage problem along the back of the house, and additionally tore out my old back steps and build a new brick and block structure that blends in and leads you onto the patio gracefully. The two young men that put in the sweat each and every day were punctual, hard working, polite and dedicated to the same values as John.

Peter is an outstanding craftsman. He remodeled three bathrooms for us and did an fantastic job. Very beautiful and detailed work. It was refreshing to find someone who does work above and beyond the norm. Very reasonably priced as well.

    Platia Landscaping & Snowplowing
Charlie Platia signed a season contract, and I paid for the season. He came once in the beginning of December and never came back. We had three major snowfalls in January, and he did not show up at all. All three times I measured the snow on the driveway and sent him pictures - there was either 3+ inches in the past or 6 inches today - I am keeping pictures to use as evidence. The first time I had to leave the car on the street, because I could not get up the driveway and I was recovering after a major surgery and could not clean the driveway myself. The second time I shoveled the driveway myself (just a month after a major surgery). Will do this again tomorrow before going to work. I sent multiple messages, emails, and called and left voicemails on his phone - no response, never picks up, never calls back. I am planning to take him to the court - this behavior is unacceptable, it is quite shocking. The attached pictures are from this morning and evening, the snowfall was yesterday, and nothing was done for more than 24 hours. Based on the last two snowstorms, I don't think he is planning to come.

Looked good until it rained had a 3 by 3 section that needed more asphalt. It had a 3 by 3 pond. Plus there were a few places that needed to be sealed again. Called numerous times said he would take care of never called back. Have a 3 year warranty.

    Precision Overhead Garage Door
    •       The spring on my garage door broke.  There were there within a few hours.  The technician inspected the garage door and gave me 3 recommendations and estimates.
    • 1)  Short Term - to replace the spring
    • 2)  Better- to replace that and the roller, cables, bearings plates and drums on the door
    • 3)  Best - to add a new garage door opener to all the above
    •     I told him the garage door had been noisy and asked if the garage opener was partly the cause of it.  He said yes and that the Liftmaster was extremely quiet and better than the Genie.  I decided to my regret to go with his best recommendation and have the new garage door opener installed.
    •     I recently had a Genie installed at another house and I may have been content with the Liftmaster if I did not have that to compare to it.  You literally can barely hear the Genie.  The Liftmaster whines.  The Genie remotes are small and sturdy.  The Liftmaster remotes are large and cheap looking.  The Liftmaster is made by Champion.  I looked a Champion up at Costco and it had all the bells and whistles for $390 also with a lifetime warranty.  The LIftmaster cost me $699.  $309 more.  I showed this to the tech and he said they would charge about $200 to install something like that but would not guarantee it.

My advice, let them fix your door but take your time and shop for a garage door opener.  With everything that was wrong with my door, fixing it would have quieted it down and allowed me to shop for a quality garage opener, instead of being stuck with this Liftmaster.

The driveway came out excellent, now we are able to get a basketball hoop for my son and not worry about driving up the stone driveway in the winter time.  The garage keeps our cars nice and warm!!

    Hazen Contracting, Inc
It took a few rounds of phone tag to initially get someone out for an estimate and because we couldn't work out a time to meet it took a couple of rounds to finally get the estimates I was looking for, but I am glad I persisted.
Hazen transformed my 300+ foot pot hole and puddle filled gravel drive that had recently started erupting with vegetation down the middle into a tarmac you wouldn't be faulted for thinking was concrete at first glance. They also replaced my culvert pipe and regraded the apron when it meets the street. Between the apron and the driveway the drive is so smooth and quiet that it is not unusual for me to be almost all the way up the driveway before the dog notices I'm home. I am amazed at what Jeff and his quite impressive crew were able to accomplish and how quickly they were able to get it done. It took them two days for the apron and the driveway.
Don't be afraid to ask about non-gravel/asphalt work. I was in the middle of getting estimates for filling in an old neglected pool while talking with Jeff and just threw it out there asking if it was something he'd be willing to give me a price on and he was (I also found out that they also do concrete work). He misquoted the amount of dirt needed to do the job (after all I wouldn't call that their specialty) but still ended up being competitively priced. Not only did working with Hazen save me having to write one more check, but it saved having to try to coordinate two large jobs with two separate contractors and if you've ever done that you know how complicated that can be. That is to say nothing of the quality of the work his crew did on the pool which was first rate.
The only real complaint I had about any of the work they did was the lack of communication regarding where we were with the job. A phone call or note at the end of the day or a more clear explanation of how things were going to progress would have saved me some worry about unfinished work. In the end however Jeff took care of all of my concerns and I am very happy with the results.
There are companies that; get the job done per the minimum spec, get the job done right and those that get the job done right and go out of their way to deliver satisfaction and I would put Hazen squarely in the last category. Jeff will be my first call the next time I need driveway (or anything similar) work done in the future and I would not hesitate to recommend Hazen to anyone.

Crew arrived when scheduled, proceeded to check out all components, identified & replaced  the 2 rollers that were wearing out (I had already determined that some would have to be replaced, based on the noise being made when the door tracked up & down, so that was no surprise), lubricated remaining components.  Very professional.

    Ultimate Overlay, Decorative Concrete Resurfacing

After I experienced a septic tank back-up in my basement recreation room, I decided that I had to replace the carpet with something that would not be ruined by future water or sewer problems.  I was referred to Ultimate Overlay by a company that also resurfaced concrete floors, but they only did garage floors.  I took the tip and I am glad I did.  They gave me a free in home consultation, showed me an album of pictures of past jobs, brought samples, and explained the process, which entails prepping the floor, putting on a basecoat that ensures that  old stains, etc. will not show up in the end result.  They then apply the color/colors that I chose. They then applied an anti-skid coating, and I got to choose whether it would be glossy. I chose the acid wash with the colors of clay and greys.  Each step or coating, had to dry overnight before the next coating could be applied. I could hardly smell any odors, which surprised me. They were at my house four or five consecutive days, about four hours each day. They  arrived promptly and worked unbelievably quietly.  They were courteous and clean, and always went straight to work.  What they do is very labor intensive. The end result is beautiful!  I will not have to fear damaged carpet again.  It has a ten year guarantee and I love the way it feels when I walk barefoot. I would recommend Ultimate Overlay to anyone!
