Marble & Granite reviews in Canton

  • Three years ago we hired Canton Cut Stone to add counter tops to our newly refurbished kitchen. Their selection and service at that time was great. They had a great selection of marble and worked with us to select the one we wanted. It was installed professionally and we were happy with it. They also installed an undermount sink. At the time we asked them about it dropping out and how it was attached. They said they would stand behind the work and it was epoxied with clamps to the underside of the granite. Fast forward three years to when the left side of the sink dropped down about two inches. I discovered that the epoxy clamps had broken loose from the granite. Went to Canton Cut Stone with the old clamps. Was told there was only a one year warranty on the workmanship but they would be glad to send someone out to repair it. The cost would have been about $300 for service call and reintallment. I asked if this is going to happen every few years and was told they cannot control how the sink is used. Was told people have stood in the sink and then wanted a repair. I am 70 years old and standing in a sink is not something I would do! I decided to forgo their service and fixed it myself with a few screws and some pieces of wood. It is as good as new and will never drop out again. The method I used was exactly the same way they had mounted the right hand side of the sink initially. I have no idea why they used epoxy and clamps on the left hand side. I would not recommend this company. They will not stand behind their work after one year even though they told us not to worry a about the sink falling out. Thank goodness I haven't had s major problem with the granite. This is one of the problems in our country: poor workmanship at a high cost and the greed of companies. $300 to do a 15 minute job that I as a homeowner could easily do! Ridiculous!

  • I have used Quarry Granite several times, and even referred them to my brother-in-law when he was building a new home. First of all, their prices on certain slabs that they have on sale are really hard to beat. One thing to be careful of though, are that various fees they tack on can quickly negate any competitive advantage they had on price alone. Secondly, I never had any issues getting a call back when issues arose, and everyone I dealt with treated me with professionalism and respect. The problems I experienced were addressed quickly, even if they weren't exactly executed as well.

In the end, I was happy with the job they did, but it did take a lot of phone calls and hovering to get it done. On several occasions, the installer was running very late, and I either did not get a call notifying me as such, or the call came well after the appointment time that they were just heading over. And since they are several hours away, that was more than aggravating. On the last house, several trips were required on their part to finish the backsplash installation because on the first trip the installer ran out, and then on the second trip he had the wrong color. The installer was extremely apologetic and sincere both times, so I don't know if they're going through some major growing pains, or if they are that unorganized all the time. I also had to remind them to caulk underneath when they were done because they were heading out the door and I could see daylight under the counter from the living room from a large gap. The other thing I'm not super happy with is that their seams are a little bigger than I've seen on other installations. They don't use any clamps when they're putting slabs together so I guess that's something to keep in mind. My brother in law was extremely upset with his seams, and when I saw them, I was pretty surprised at how sloppy they looked. He refused to call and complain though, so maybe they would have fixed the problem if he had. If mine had looked like that, I would have had them rip it out.

I would recommend quarry granite with the caveats that I mentioned, however if I do use them again and have the same issues, I will probably make that the last time. The aggravation of the time it took to complete, and lack of punctuality both have dollar values to me, and I'd pay a little more elsewhere to have it done a lot more smoothly.

  • Simply awful. Where do I start?
Randy came to do the estimate. He was very nice and hepful during this. He said they could do the install within two weeks. We decided to go with Quarry Granite and we called to schedule the install. They couldn't get us in for three weeks. I was a bit disappointed but we booked anyway.
They showed up about an hour late for the install, but the two guys were nice enough. After the install they gave us a check sheet to fill out. One of the items on the sheet wanted us to check that they wiped the counters down, as well as the cabinets (from the dust). They did not do this. The floor, countertops and cabinets were covered in the dust from the install. So, we put an x and wrote that they didn't clean up. It didn't bother them at all and we never received a follow up call on this, which surprised me. They just wanted out of there. Then, there were several knicks in the granite -- they tried to convince us this was normal.
We had granite countertops installed in our last home, and we knew this was not normal. We made them fix these marks, which they did (mostly), however begrudgingly. We then asked them about the dishwasher, for it did not appear to be mouted correctly. The installers hastily claimed that it was fine and done correctly.
However, several days later after they left we opened the dishwasher and it nearly fell out. I called Randy a few times and he did not return my calls. So, I called the main office and spoke with (I think) Mike. He was very friendly and apologetic. He said he would call someone and they would call and schedule a time to come out and mount the dishwasher. Needless to say I never heard from anyone. I called Mike back. Again, and again, and again. No one would answer the phone or return my calls. I finally found another number and called this -- still no answer. So, the last straw was I left a message on the voicemail telling them I would leave a negative review on Angie's List and I was tired of the run around with them. (The negative review obviously still reflects my experience).
The next day I got a call from Mike. He was attempting to get in touch with Randy at that same time. He was then able to talk with Randy on his cell phone -- he asked me to hold a moment, however, I could hear the entire conversation. Randy specifically screamed "I don't want to drive all the way out there! It takes f*$#ing forever to get there!" Mike apologized for his use of the F word, but I was pretty taken aback. Randy texted me the next day telling me he could come out in a week or so. I asked for a date/time frame so I could schedule it with work.
Surprise surprise, again no response. Finally I texted him again and he responded with "who is this?". I was reaching the end of my rope at this point. I was ready to call American Express and file a chargeback, when they finally came and mounted the dishwasher. I am glad to be done with this company and I would highly recommend that you not use them.
Lowe's would have only been about $100 more total, and it would have been worth it.
Quarry Granite was unprofessional in their manner with me as the customer and in their work quality. Look elsewhere.

  • The rep that came out, Dean, said he would give us an estimate by the end of the day (Friday).  He was supposed to give us a quote on three different colors of granite.  Wednesday of the following week, he emailed us a quote for only one color.  Never heard from him again, which is fine because the quote from them was by far the highest we've gotten from five different companies.  His quote was the "on sale" price as well.  This was the second estimate we got from them.  The first one was about six months earlier and $900 less not on sale.  Also, his square footage estimate was 8 more square feet than the other guys.  Not impressed with them in the least.

  • In general we love what we got, but I don't like the way they installed the countertops. They provide a very good product and selection at a decent price. The problem with the installation is when they ripped out the old counter tops, they needed to raise the new counter tops in order to meet the back splash because they were thinner then the previous countertops we had, but they didn't. It was hard to install trimming around the countertops.

  • Mike Jirlouis jr., was a nice young man with a wonderful design plan. He was very easy to work with. He listened to our needs and came up with good ideas to meet them. His crew was very capable and overcame any obstacle they encountered. There were days they were unavailable due to other work they were doing and the job did take 3-4 weeks longer than expected.
