  • Make Choice 1 Contractors Your Last Choice We hired Choice 1 Contractors to remodel an 11’x9’ kitchen. We had completed the demo ourselves, so the Choice 1 team was supposed to add a new beam, redo our subfloor, place our new cabinets, add a venting range hood, and move electrical lines to move some outlets and switches and add some new lights. They promised it would be done quickly and we would love the results. Three months, numerous arguments, multiple crews and sub-contractors, and unimaginable stress later, and the project was never completed. We ended up firing them due to their inability to complete the project. Additionally, we were never satisfied with Choice 1’s level of commitment, quality, or professionalism. Top Reasons Not to Hire Choice 1 Contractors 1. Lack of skilled workers and quality work 2. Lack of communication 3. Lack of professionalism 4. No commitment to timeline 5. Lack of incorporating client in decision-making 6. Lack of concern for basic safety measures 7. Lack of concern for clients’ personal property 8. Intentional misleading of clients 9. Prioritization of personal projects over client needs Like most people, we chose Choice 1 based on a combination of their price, internet reviews, and promises. Shannon and JJ seemed like genuinely nice people who were excited to help us create our dream kitchen. To say we were misled is an understatement. We experienced several instances of very poor work during our remodel, including breaking our personal property, an unlevel subfloor, uneven cuts in the flooring, terrible drywall installation, a crooked post, and the use of an unlicensed electrician. They even left live electrical wires hanging from my ceiling without turning off the electricity. There also was no communication from Choice 1, either to us, or to their crews. Choice 1’s communication is so poor that most of the time, we had no idea what was going on with our remodel and it took us days to find out. Most times when we had questions for Shannon, we had to call or text him two-three times over the span of two days before he would call us back. Once, his lack of response was so delayed that after four business days of not hearing back from him, we had to threaten to fire him if he didn’t call us back by the end of the day. Shannon also got into heated arguments with my husband, in which he yelled and cussed, and one of these almost physical when he rushed my husband like he was going to hit him but then stopped at the last minute. Here’s how our project went: (1) There would be about 1-2 days or work. (2) Work would mysteriously stop for a week, with no notice or other communication from Choice 1. (2) We would call Shannon and ask what’s going on. (4) There would be about 1-2 days of work. Then repeat Step 1. We found out later the reason for the delays was pulling crews off our project to build their new showroom. I have never worked with such unprofessional, unskilled people.   • Dan is a true professional. He is very precise with our lighting system around the perimeter of our home. He made certain to not only meet - but exceed - our expectations. All work was done in a timely manner as promised. He then came to make sure that all new lights were working & aligned properly. We have owned our home for eighteen years, and are the sole property in our allotment with a full lighting system. Living on a corner lot gives us protection & peace of mind with our investment. We highly recommend Dan!

  • Everything went fine. They were able to design a very open combined kitchen and dining room in a very small home. They were able to start earlier than expected and they were done in the stated time. Everything went smoothly and the builder, John did a wonderful job. He kept us informed about anything that might affect us: cutting off the water or electricity since we were both around a lot during the construction. We also had 4 cats and a dog and we all lived in the living room and bedroom and used the basement for a kitchen. John made things much less stressful!

  • Process and communication were excellent. Quality or work and pricing model was a win for all involved. Too bad I contracted for services in order to sell my house and relocate three hours away, or else, I would still be working with him.

  • He arrived on time.  He replaced damaged wiring that ran through the garage.  He also replaced the conduit piping and extended it further so the wiring would be protected from the garage door.  I was very pleased with the work performed.

    I also hired him for another all day electrical job (replacing light fixtures, light switches and rewiring the circuit breakers).  I also hired him to fix an outdoor light at my mom's house and he fixed the wiring to her fluorescent kitchen lights.  And then I called him again to replace an outlet for my clothes dryer.  I was pleased with all the work performed and would definitely use them again for electrical work.

  • It went well.  Ray was very professional and knowledgeable.  His crew showed up on time worked quickly, and cleaned up when they were done.  We could instantly tell a difference with the increased insulation.

  • I've used them a couple of different times last year. They always did good work for me. I'm happy with them. They were very timely when they were here. They were easy to communicate. The quality of work was good. I had no complaints. My interaction with them was good. The service techs were all good. There were no issues. They were a little high on price.

  • However, since I don't have fixture coverage he could not replace it. My issue is when the appointment was made they should of asked if I had any special switches other then the traditional white and beige. The contractor was surprised to see a clear switch, which is unacceptable as these switches are sold at Home Depot. Now I have a panel with 3 clear and 1 beige switch. After spending $100 I am left staring at mismatched switches and must say that I am not satisfied. I now must go and purchase the correct MATCHING switch.

  • Dave (of Dave+Mark) looked at my situation ... a troublesome front entrance that was especially bad in the winter and knew what I needed before I told him my ideas . I thought they were a bit pricey but the estimate was very close to others I had . The job turned out nice and I'm happy with their service .

  • This is the first contractor I've ever felt motivated to write a review about. Mark communicated with me consistently from our first phone contact where I was able to talk to him on the first call, to calling me when he arrived at the unit to review the work that was needed, getting me an email quote and contract within a few days and getting the work scheduled for the following week.
    Bruce and Paul arrived on time both days and worked hard to get all completed. Due to some challenges it took a bit longer than expected and Bruce stayed until 6:45 pm on a Friday night to get everything done. Upon walking through on completion I saw that the work had been performed exactly as I had asked, actually better than I expected because so much had been done wrong in the past.
    All the old fixtures were removed and the place was left clean. It was a rare experience for me to deal with such competent and nice people. I highly recommend them.
