General Contracting reviews in Blacklick

  • They replaced the boards and painted them to an exact match with the rest of the deck. One of the deck pieces was a difficult cut because of the bay window but was perfectly done. Very professional, left the site clean.

  • Truthfully, we would go with a different contractor if we were to do it again.
If you are looking for a contractor I would suggest going with one that does not use sub contractors.  This is for two reasons.
One, it takes a whole lot longer when subs are used..  We were told our job would take 11 weeks.  It ended up taking 19 weeks with a ton of down time.  There was one month where work was only done 4 days of the month.  A contractor with a crew needs to keep that crew busy, but if they are using subs it doesn't matter as much if there is downtime between subcontractors.
The second reason I would suggest not using a business like Just Basements that only uses subcontractors is that there is a wide range in quality of the subs.  The carpenter and electrician did excellent work.  However, the painter not so much.  Our AV person and window treatment person both made comments about the poor paint job  The worst subcontractor was the HVAC contractor (American Air).  They did a horrible job.  Our HVAC system prior to the work had a board allowing for 4 zones.  Two zones were used, one on the first floor and one on the second floor.  They should have made the basement a third zone.  Instead whenever the AC or heat goes on for the first or second floor it also goes to the basement.  It is horribly inefficient and had resulted in our electrical bills doubling.  Yikes!  It is also uncomfortably cold in the summer in our basement.  If you finish your basement get a plan for the HVAC system and run it by the person who normally services your HVAC system.  When Buckeye Heating and Cooling looked at they way our basement was installed they were not impressed.  There is only one air return which is located in a narrow hallway only inches from the furnace.   I think that was the cheapest place to install it, but we should have had three or four air returns.
The other major problem we had with Just Basements is that they email a picture of what our NatraStone egress window would look like during the bid process.  It turned out they sent a picture of a much more premium window.  We were very sorely disappointed with the window that was actually installed.  I would not use Just Basements if you would like an egress window.   I do not think that is something they are very familiar with.

  • Mike sent over John to do the carpentry work (and John's very nice son, Cody).  And on  Day #1 John tore off the fascia boards that had been compromised by rain over the years.  In the back area he found structural rot (which was shown to me) and over the garage, more rot AND carpenter ants!  John called Mike who came over with some serious bug killer and dispatched the ants before proceeding.  The whole project was supposed to take one day, but had to lay over to find the right size fascia board and siding.  They securely put plastic over all exposed areas in case it rained.
So John came back a couple days later and cut out all the rot, rebuilt the structural areas, replaced the fascia board, caulked and painted, and it all looks good as new.  He also adjusted the "gutters" over the windows and garage door to make sure future rain water is channeled away from the siding, a problem that caused this whole mess in the first place.
The overall price was somewhat higher than quoted, but Mike and I both knew that might happen based on what they found once they took off the fascia boards.  Mike, John & Cody were very nice to work with and they cleaned up after themselves very well.  I would definitely call them again when some other part of my 15-year-old house goes bad.

  • The quality of his work was outstanding. He was very professional and built exactly what we expected. When we changed our mind on one item towards the end of the project, he adjusted with no issues and delivered exactly what we wanted.

  • I love our new bathroom!  What I liked best about SHR is that Scott is easy to communicate with and provided a realistic material allowance.  Work began and ended on schedule.  The work site and rest of the house was neatly cleaned up each day.  Workers were courteous and professional.  The vendors Scott works with are extremely helpful.  Even if something happened like the vanity delivered was 2 inches shorter than contract specifications, we notified Scott right away and it was fixed right away.  Scott really worked with us to make sure we got the bathroom we wanted within our budget.

  • Received the bid promptly and they started work within 2 weeks. Everything has gone smoothly. All the subs are very good, willing to go out of their way. Close attention from the owner. Cleaned up each night. Everything looks wonderful! Pricing was very competitive.  Demolition went quickly.  Very attentive to details.  Each sub was very easy to work with.  I left my key each morning and everyone was trustworthy.  If a minor problem came up (the vanity doors had imperfections - and were replaced without a problem), it was handled quickly and smoothly.  The tile work was beautifully done and as was all the carpentry.  It was exciting to come home every day to see the progress.  We added the closet on midway through the bathroom, and they accommodated us.  I would use them again in a heart beat.

  • Tiller Carpentry did a good job overall. I did have troubles with his painter and to Joe Tiller's credit he is trying to make the situation right. The painter used a wacker sprayer and he got the polish everywhere and the stain didn't match. Joe Tiller did an excellent job though. He is an honest, hard worker. He matched the cabinetry we had to make it look like the original. Aesthetically it looked very good. He was very professional. We just had a problem with the subcontractor and Tiller Carpentry is fixing the issue.

  • Bill came out to look over the work, he was right on time. Gave an estimate. Came a few days later to perform the work. Very professional, went out of his way to do some extra things, cleaned up after himself. Great experience

  • Original estimate was supposed to include repairs but scheduler said there were no repairs listed. I made the estimator come back out and include needed repairs. Repairs and painting were good. Scraps of wood from window repairs were dumped in natural area behind my house.

  • I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE FACT THAT HE CAME AND CHECKED ON THE WORK WHILE IT WAS BEING DONE, TO MAKE SURE IT WAS GOING OKAY. THEY WERE QUICK, AND WORK WAS FINISHED IN ABOUT 4 OR 5 HRS. GREAT CLEAN UP. THEY WERE THOUGHTFUL AND PAINTED BOTH SIDES OF THE COLUMN.
