    Richardson Exteriors
After interviewing several contractors, meeting Ron was like a breath of fresh air. He is not a particularly good salesman, actually -- and I mean that in a good way. No high pressure tactics. He could have sold us extra stuff, I am sure. All his suggestions were to get us the best value for our money. In particular he talked me out of a few things that I was sure we needed to do, and I am very grateful he did -- all the other contractors just nodded right along with me. But he used his many years of experience to tell me that I didn't need it. We did have to wait 4 months for his top crew to be available, but it was worth the wait. Rodney (siding installer) is so good. In every profession there are some people who have exceptional attention to detail, and Rodney is definitely one of those. He was always willing to talk me through different options for minor decisions that needed to be made. I am sure he could have gone faster and moved on to other jobs, but he took his time and got it right. He even went out of his way to accommodate some silly requests on my part. We are so happy with the exterior of our home, and have gotten many compliments. We are also very happy with the windows we had installed. The windows themselves were installed in one day, and the trim was done in small pieces over parts of 3 or 4 days. The windows are so solid and look great. The trim work was good but not great. Just minor details that most people would probably not notice -- like for instance, some of the trim was cut with a saw blade that clearly needed to be replaced. Just not clean cuts. And some of the trim was installed without sanding at all -- it clearly needed to be sanded. Kirk was committed to making sure we were happy with it, and all in all, we were. Just some finer details that I thought could have been better. But I am nitpicking -- I would highly recommend Richardson exteriors to anyone looking to do new siding or exterior work.

Daniel is very professional and punctual. His manner is respectful, businesslike and informative. He explained the tasks and did not "treat me like a girl" or "talk down" to me!!! And I appreciated that. He is conscientious, arrived exactly on ti,e, and cleaned the work area. i will recommend him to others, and definitely call him again.

I am thoroughly impressed with markpoint development. They are honest, knowledgeable and trustworthy. I felt better knowing I was in their hands. They did impecable work, paid attention to detail and were a pleasure to work with. I will hire them again in the future.

    Mr. Exterior
Brian Trojack came out to look at the the job said that they could do it and would get back to me. He never did and I called him twice left messages both time and never heard back. So, I'm out $149 and no work was done. Can I get some sort of a credit to use another vendor?

    Abode Home Maintenance
Service was never performed because after numerous attempts via email, messaging and phone calls, no one contacted me back to even schedule the service. The phone number provided is disconnected! Bad business in my opinion... will not be using them again!

    Ohio Exteriors LLC
This was purchased as part of an Angies List deal, where $300 was deducted from work over a certain amount. They came out and did the estimate after I purchased, which probably wasn't a good idea on my part; the quote seemed high, but I had already spent money on the coupon. Ohio Exteriors was able to do all the work without my being home, which was very useful. They just showed up and did the work. Except that they had to come out three times to get the work done. The first time they replaced some of the rotten wood that was in the scope of the work. I waited a week to see if they would return on their own, and when they didn't I called them about it. They came back and did some more of the work, but left a 2X4 with obvious rot, right next to the porch door (see photo) untouched. After a couple of weeks of them not returning and the office asking me to pay their invoice, I sent an e-mail with the picture of the rot and asked 1) how it was missed on the original inspection and 2) would they fix it. They denied it was deep rot, so I went out to buy materials to fix it myself, however they did come and replace the 2X4 after all, although they didn't paint it. They are very good at their work - I am impressed with the quality - but I suspect the workers didn't have much supervision, which is why things were left undone.

    Arrow Roofing & Siding
The first time I hired this crew, 2 guys came out. They were both very cool to talk to. And, they had the gutter off before I came out to see how they were doing. Then, the one side was adjusted before they said they were done. I loved it. All is well. The next time, 2 different guys came out. Same thing. These 2 were just as conversational and quick. Also, I offered, because the sun was going down, they could come back and finish. Both said, no, we're good. We'll finish. Too cool. I'd hire them again.

The back story is that at first I tried using an inexpensive handyman type service (I tried two or three) and they all said no, this kind of word is tricky because if you replace some of the boards in a porch or deck, unless you do it just right, the rest of the boards can be adversely affected). And so when Angie's list offered a deal for repair work done by Ohio Exteriors (which had good reviews), I tried them. Most of the news is very good. The people I dealt with were all very friendly, knowledgeable and good about getting back to me promptly. It took a little while to schedule my job, but I didn't really mind; it wasn't especially time sensitive, and I had the sense that mine was a smaller job that was to be fitted in between bigger ones. The man arrived around 1 pm to do the work and was done in four hours. He seemed very skilled, efficient and all the indications are he did a fine job replacing five boards in the rear deck, a few more in the side deck, and four or so on the front porch. He also repaired a wooden staircase leading to the back deck, and did a very fine job with that, too. He cleaned up and left, and I was happy to have had him do the work. The only point of concern had to do with price. This company doesn't give you an estimate in the ordinary sense. They come up with a price and ask you to agree to sign a contract for that amount. Their first estimate was simply too high ($750 for the front porch and $750 for the decks for a total of $1,500), and so I suggested $500 each for a total of $1,000, and that's what we agreed on. When I did so, however, I wasn't sure how many person hours would required to do the work, because it was possible that as the work was done (rotting boards being removed, etc.) that the job might be bigger than it outwardly appeared at first. Instead, the opposite happened. One man did all the work in four hours. And so I queried his supervisor about this, asking him to break the costs for labor and materials. He replied saying that once a price is set, he would not break down the costs; though he did offer to take another $200 off the price. And so I paid a total of $800 for the work, but I wondered a bit if I had been overcharged. I can't be sure because I don't know what the lumber costs were (the materials used were lumber, screws and glue), nor do I know what the normal hourly rate is for such work. (I haven't had this kind of work done before). And so my one tip is to be sure to ask the company to break down their costs in advance of signing the contract. That's what I will do next time if I use this firm again, which I likely will.

They do quality work, They are courteous and they clean up well. I was pleased and would recommend them highly.
The replaced wood looks seamless and looks great. The plaster work is flawless and even another hired painter commented on how well it looked. I would use them again.

We are very pleased with the outcome of the work! It was Todd who suggested the layout for our kitchen improvement which gave us the functionality we needed without the expense of bumping out. It's made a huge difference for us. The basement project came out wonderfully as well. Todd's carpenter and on site construction manager is top notch and easy to work with. Todd uses sub-contractors for certain jobs - electrical, plumbing, etc. - but he makes sure that the work is done right and he stays involved throughout the project. We really appreciated that the company was so easy to work with and budget sensitive. Todd also helped connect us with folks to handle other matters for us outside of the original project. So many people have such horror stories with contractors, but our process was very smooth and we would highly recommend!
