    They completely gutted our Master Bath, which is a regular-sized bathroom. It was ugly and out-dated. They removed the tub and put in a beautiful tile walk-in shower. They removed the old vinyl floor and tiled the floor and halfway up the walls. A new toilet, sink & cabinet, and all new lighting were put in, as well as a pocket door entry to the bathroom. They turned a wide, open hallway into another closet for the Master, added a door to another room and a closet for that room too. They were punctual, always kept us informed about who would be there and when, and generally kept in close contact with us throughout the whole 6 weeks of the project. Some of the subcontractors were better than others, but we were satisfied with the work overall, and especially the end result. Van understood what we were trying to achieve from the first meeting, had sketches within a day or so, and a price estimate soon after. Van���s right-hand man, Dan, was also wonderful! He was friendly, meticulous, and kept an eye on the subs to keep the job moving along. We would definitely recommend Van Stein Construction.

    The rep arrived about 10 minutes early for the initial appt. We have a very noisy dog that my wife takes for a walk during appts. We had to put the dog in the car, etc. so I said we needed 5 minutes. When we opened the garage door, his car was in the way, so I asked him to move it to the other side of the driveway. My wife came in and put her coat on and left (before 10am the appt time). The rep just drove away, didn't say anything, and when I called 20 minutes later, they said he went to another appt. Unbelievably unprofessional!

    by far a wonderful experience. my wife and i looked high and low for options that might fit the open floor plan we have. it was by far easier to have the showroom drive over and select on site. there was tons to choose from and genuine concern that what was selected would be right. samples were left to choose from, discussions were solution based and final decisions were made more timely & much easier with this in home approach. Interior area calculations were exact and thus the price allowed us to opt for for better quality selected. The question we asked that sold my wife and i on using this company was, "would we work for them", Yes we would... it turned out great, the staff they have are very dependable, qualified, honest, and trustworthy, and a very fortunate to be part of a good experience for us as well as themselves.

    Carver and Sons did a WONDERFUL job with both upgrades!  Barb the designer was a gem to work with, and she did an excellent job not only of helping with selections of tile, fixtures, granite color, etc., but she was superb as the overall coordinator for the two projects.  She made the entire process pretty painless, and was willing to work within my schedule many times.  If I had an issue, she worked with me to resolve it to my satisfaction. For my two projects, she effectively was the face of Carver and Sons.  I would work with her again in a heartbeat!  She assisted me with my selections and made good, practical recommendations.  Every scheduled date was hit during the project.  In fact, she was able to move one of the projects up in the schedule by more than a month because they had some changes.  I very much appreciated that she was able to do that, minimizing my time and getting both projects done before the Christmas holiday.

    The professionals who performed the work were good people, too.  They were always prompt, courteous and showed respect for my house.  They had a lot of work to do with demolition and did a great job cleaning up after themselves.  The work was done in a reasonable amount of time.  I was surprised both projects were completed as quickly as they were.  The work was done with high quality on both projects.  I could not be any happier with the outcome!  I would gladly use them again for any remodeling work.  I heartily recommend them.

    Oh, I almost forgot; I thought the cost was very reasonable for each project.  The kitchen was around $8,500 and the bathroom around $9,000.  For the quality of the service and their work, I felt these prices were very reasonable and not at all out of line.  I am now a big fan of Carver and Sons.  This was my first project with them, but I plan to use them again.

    The crew Darren has working for him are truly nice people and know their jobs very well. You don't mind them being in your house at all. They do excellent work. The problem is with Darren. We had Darren remodel our kitchen. About $25,000+ job. He improperly installed the cabinets. When Darren was told about it. He argued and said the cabinets are right. The cabinets are improper. Parts of them are binding against the granite counter top. Causing them to pull away from the cabinet next to them. Leaving an unsightly crack. They are not square, causing difficulty with the refrigerator. You can open one door only part way. The other door a little farther. Neither one will open fully, due to improper installation. Did not fully grout tile wall in full bath he remodeled. Darren did not finish full bath walls with plaster or paint. When I told Darren about these problems, he said he would come out and look at them. That was in March. It is now November and he still hasn't been here. Saying when he gets to this side of town. He will look at these problems. We are very unhappy with him. He can be difficult to communicate with at times. I would discourage anyone thinking about using Darren.

    Shelf Genie of Cincinnati
    We saw Shelf Genie at the Home and Garden Show and asked them to come out and give us and estimate.  The designer made an appointment to come while we were at the show which was about two weeks out.  We have a deep pantry and it is very difficult to see what you have in the back of a shelf.  As a result we would have duplicates and even triplicates of items in the pantry.  The designer was prompt and knowledgeable and we decided to order five shelves, three of which would have sloped sides to help keep tall items from falling over.  The installer came out to get exact measurements within 10 days and he indicated it took about 6 weeks to custom make the shelves.  After 6 weeks (almost to the day) the installer called to make arrangements to install our shelves.  Unfortunately the sloped sided shelves were not made and when I pointed that out he indicated that he would call the company and they would work it out.  In the meantime I had the five shelves installed to use until I received my sloped shelves.  The company reordered the sloped shelves and installed them and I love them.   In spite of the delay in getting the shelves I ordered I was very pleased with how the company handled the mix-up and would not hesitate to use them again.  That's really the only reason I gave them a B in punctuality,  Even though the shelves seemed on the expensive side I think it was well worth it in terms of both convenience and food waste.  I threw out several garbage bags of outdated food from the back of my shelves when I was getting ready for my installation.  That won't happen again because I know what's on every shelf now!

    Everything went great. The installer cut a piece of crown molding wrong and he had to order a new piece. A month or two went by and we contacted Lowe's; they ordered the piece and we hired someone else to install it.

    All About Tile
    Rick Gibbs was absolutely great.  His work was excellent and we love the finished floor.  We were thrilled that he was able to schedule us in within a few weeks of providing our quote.  He was on time, he cleaned up after each day, he always explained what was going on; in other words he was a complete professional.  The price was great, the work was superb and we will use All About Tile for any future projects.

    Rod and his wife came out to estimate several projects. They then provided an estimate for the work. Then we scheduled. Then Rod and his assistant came and completed the work over two days. Other contractors gave us higher bids for the work and didn't have the kinds of solution-oriented recommendations that Rod did. For the support beam end posts that were getting water damage, most others said to cut them off (i.e., ruin the aesthetic of the cabin). Rodney suggested wrapping them with copper to preserve the posts and to maintain aesthetic and value of the home. 
    We have used various handyman services that were ranked high on Angie's List. Some did good work, others we had issue with, all were expensive. Rodney Barnes is the first one we've found who has transparent and fair pricing. Job was supposed to finish in one day, it took two, price didn't change. Rodney has tons and tons of skills and experience with all aspects of home remodel, maintenance and improvement. He and his team are professional. Rod's Home Improvement will be our first choice for future projects such as flooring, bathroom remodels and general maintenance.

    Columbia Kitchen and Bath
    The tile installer came out the next day or so and looked at the floor. He said he had never seen this happen before and would order replacement tile and get back to us as soon as it came in.  I never heard a thing from them for almost 2 months. It was summertime and we weren't too excited to have our kitchen torn up again so we waited to hear from them. I finally called in August and were told that it was their busy season & they would contact us in a few weeks to let us know when replacement was scheduled. Another month or so went by and I called again. By this time, it was October and we had vacation, then holidays and said that if they couldn't get out in the next 2 weeks to wait until January. She promised to call on Dec. 31 to give us a schedule. Again, never heard from her and I called again in January. Same thing--different person--and this time she actually gave me a choice of weeks. I told her either would work and she said fine, they would order the tile (again) and call before they came. Never heard from them, so this time my husband called & let them know that we were tired of empty promises. They scheduled the work. The guy came out, tore up the floor, put the refrigerator in the dining room and said he would lay the tile the next day but had to pick it up first. He got here at about 11 the next morning and laid a few pieces, but said the tile was bad and they would have to get more. That was on a Wed. & this was the last we saw of them until almost a week later.  We were trying to be patient because the problem was with The Tile Shop and the quality of the tile, but the communication from Columbia was horrendous. The guy called me on the following Tues. & said they would be here the next morning. Nobody showed; nobody called to say they wouldn't be there!  My husband called again and they said they were still having trouble getting good tile. If they had just communicated with us, we wouldn't have been happy but the frustration we felt would have been much less. They are the worst at communication--instead of just telling us the truth, they just wouldn't call at all!  Their customer service is non-existent.  The installer finally got the job done almost two weeks after he started. He did an okay job but he was rushing to get it completed and there are areas that are uneven and there is no grouting under the appliances. This is definitely not the careful, nice job he did originally.  The worst part is, there is no guarantee that the floor won't crack again since they weren't sure why it cracked the first time!  It is truly a shame because we really love our kitchen and gave them a great review for the original work even though communication that time was bad, too. Had they just communicated with us this could have all been avoided. Now, I wouldn't use them again if they were the last company in the area!  Nobody ever called us after the work was done either time. We thought that was a little odd when they completed the kitchen last year. It seems that most companies follow up with customers when a job is done to make sure they are satisfied.  The installer handled everything--final payment, final walk-thru, etc.  Again, the installer does a great job but this company doesn't do him any justice!
