  • SimpliSafe Review / Recommendation So far, two weeks in, I think the system is fantastic. It came exactly as expected and was easy to install. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm about a 3 or 4 on the handy man scale. I can hang a curtain rod or help my kids build those little pre-cut wood crafts. That's about it. I had all 4 entry sensors, 2 keypads, 2 glass breaks, and a motion sensor all in place and working in about an hour. I used the screws (provided) for the keypads and the entry sensors. But with 3M command strips for all adhesives - I don't expect anything would have moved much. I have 3 kids, so I mostly did it for reinforcement. I was surprised and pleased to see actual brand name command strips (plus 6 extras if needed) as well as brand name Energizer lithium batteries in all sensors and keypads. No skimping on good pieces-parts. The engineering of the products is also very good and easy to use. Two examples - the easy slide-off covers on everything, make battery replacement very simple - when needed. And the backs of every component have slots that the command strip "tabs" go through - so if you do need to move or remove a sensor or keypad, easy-slide off the cover, and grab and pull the tabs. If you have never used a command strip, this pulls the adhesive off the wall and the sensor or keypad will come right off - no marks, no scratches and no holes or tears ! And the keypads couldn't be easier to use. I studied every fancy GE/Simon and Honeywell keypad out there - and for all their fancy colors and touch screen displays .... The SimpliSafe keypad is unbelievably simple - I showed my 9 year old once - and he understood and could do it. Staying home? Hit HOME - done, secure, system activated. Turn it off? Hit OFF and enter your pin. Leaving? Hit AWAY and leave in 60 seconds. Done, secure, activated. Come home? Open the door - go to the key pad and enter pin. Done - off. So so simple. PERFECT. Cellular by design, no extra fee. There is a phone jack on the device if you want backup or can't get cell coverage. Otherwise ships with a T-Mobile cellular "radio" - but if you have better coverage in your area from Verizon, just call and ask ! They will send you the other for free with return label to send back the other one. Both are actually very good coverage-wise, but you can check coverage maps on their web sites - Verizon.com and T-Mobile.com. Just put in your zip code or street address... One last thing - and this is what actually closed the deal for me. SimpliSafe has over 200,000 customers being monitored by C.O.P.S. monitoring. So I studied them and the other monitoring companies. At first, I was curious why they didn't do the monitoring themselves. But I discovered that C.O.P.S. has 5 monitoring centers around the country - all in the domestic U.S. And their computer systems and core technology are located in two data centers - their HQ in New Jersey and their backup data center at the Switch/SuperNAP in Nevada arguably the best most resilient data center in the country - maybe in the world. Bottom line is they do it right - using world class services and engineering. And I called C.O.P.S. and found their people to be fantastic - responsored, engaged and enthusiastic. I work in the technology industry, and it's hard to find this with hundred thousand dollar or even million dollar accounts and vendors - and at $14.99 per month, I'm completelythrilled with knowing who's actually monitoring my alarm and dispatching law enforcement if my family is ever in need. I'm not a salesperson and I get nothing from either SimpliSafe or CO.P.S. that I don't otherwise pay for. And my caveat is that I have had the system for only 2 weeks. But I have not been this happy with an initial purchase - maybe ever. My one and only not-raving comment is that the yard sign comes as just a sign. Actually it didn't come at all - but I called customer service and two days later I had two of them. No charge. Seems well made - durable plastic. Looks very professional and not kitschy. Every bit as official as those ADT signs you see everywhere (people who didn't know about SimpliSafe I'm sure !!!). But there is no stake or stick to use. You have to go buy that yourself. So here's what I did. I went to Home Depot and bought 2 yard sign stakes. Find the mailbox section. Near or next to that is "For Sale" and "Garage Sale" signs. And in th corner of that section is a stand-up holder labeled Yard Sign Stakes. For $8.95 each, I bought two of these. They are metal with a rust proof black plastic coating and pre drilled holes and slots on them. They are pretty long - which is good to get them deep into the ground. And I bought screws (1") and wing nuts #10-24 and small washers - all stainless so they won't rust. And I used the top slot as a reference for mounting each sign. There is no second pre-drilled hole that works for mounting the sign. So I had to drill one hole in that metal stake for each sign. Use a good bit and go slowly - but otherwise not a fancy or special bit on my drill. Drill small holes in the sign and put it all together. I know my directions aren't great - but trust me, if you can hang a curtain rod, you can figure this out too. The yard sign "project" took about an hour - 45 mins of that was the trip to Home Depot. I did my homework and have tried to give you some info that is just not easy to get from their sales or the web site. But it's all really good news ..... so far ! Good luck to you.
