    Beavers Built Construction
They were referred to me by several friends and family members. The all said that they were prompt in getting the work done and any concerns they had. The first day they showed up at time promised. The second day they showed up 15 minutes late due to traffic. Both days they worked until 5pm when it started getting dark. The 3-5 days when the owner was not on site, they took their sweet old time doing the digging. The backhoe operator broke my front steps and back steps where they had to replace them they also bent up my downspout to my gutters which they replaced by after an argument with the owner about the steps being made out of sandstone. The owner told me that they should have been made out of concrete and not sandstone. He kept me trying to get me to allow them to rebuild the steps out of concrete instead of the Sandstone that was there before they broke them. In regards to the downspout, he said he would fix it and that was no problem. The job was supposed to be done in 1 week, it took them 2 1/2 weeks to complete it.

    Schumacher Homes of Ravenna
We are ten months into a nightmare retirement home build with Schumacher homes of Ravenna, Ohio. This is a small house with a small amount of upgrades. The house by contract should have been done in 120 days. All work has now stopped because of structural issues. We have problems from the foundation to the roof and of course everything in between. A stop work order from our local county building department was issued for building code violations. Schumacher has not made any effort to remedy the problems and continues to blame us. They changed  the elevation of our home by a foot and said it was for our own benefit ?.We have hired an engineer / architect that has found the house to be unsafe to finish and live in without major structural repairs. He has stated in his report that it would be easier and cost less to tear the house down and start over !!! We have also hired an attorney to help resolve this with Schumacher. The  short of it is that if you want horrible, lousy, low quality, shabby work from a bunch of liars, then by all means hire Schumacher. Also don't count on Paul Schumacher to return any phone calls or e-mails about customer service, he has been unresponsive about the issues with his company. The hook with Schumacher is the low cost per square foot. You can keep that cost low by not getting a lot of upgrades. Again, the Schumacher experience has been HORRIBLE and may not ever be over.

Initially there was good rapport with Mr. Schwartz. Once the work started there were issues that arose on a daily basis. Mr. Schwartz seemed to be in such a hurry to complete the job that steps were overlooked and short cuts were taken that compromised the quality of the completed project.

Foam insulation was purchased and onsite for the exterior walls below grade that wasn't installed. House wrap was installed in small pieces, rather than in one continuous run.

    The roof leaks.

Water runs through the block walls. Not just seeps, but actually runs through. Mr. Schwartz did attempt to re-seal part of the walls with limited success, but then left a mess on the siding where the men slopped tar.

Poor back fill resulted in a 12' x 3' cavern under the rear concrete pad after the first rain.

Siding was insufficiently attached and blew off the house three times before the issue was resolved.

The concrete in the drive way has pocked and is disintegrating.

The opening for the garage door was made too tight resulting in the door dragging and screaming in protest at every open-close cycle.

Windows wouldn't close and latch completely. Screens had large gaps around the edges. I had to deal with the supplier to have the window problems repaired.

Mr. Schwartz initially made attempts to remedy a couple of these issues, but soon began to bill me for attempts to remedy the problems that were caused by his poor workmanship. The men in the crew were courteous. The job was completed, other than the call backs, in a timely manner. Mr. Schwartz dealt with changes to the initial plan well, and at no point was he discourteous or disrespectful.
