    William Mirando MD
Visiting Dr. Mirando's office was the worst medical experience I have ever had in my forty years on this planet. The waiting room was full of televisions blaring the news of the day, the Virginia Tech shooting, which did nothing to create a peaceful waiting room environment. The color scheme was also a disarming shade of blue, not a neutral color which is typical for a doctor's office. As I tried to relax and not pay attention to the t.v.s (hard to do) I noticed that Dr. Mirando was selling Christian music in his waiting room. Once I was called back, I noticed several religious pictures hanging about in the hallway. As I went into the clinical room, it was again an ugly shade with a border wallpaper depicting a pastoral scene with a churches and a picture of Jesus. When the doctor came into the room he was attired in a sporty soccer style shirt (not a lab coat) and introduced himself as "Dr. Bill," another guy was at the doorway. Then the doctor immediately asked if it was OK if a pharmaceutical rep. sit in on my appointment. At this point I was feeling quite anxious and I said "no." I could imagine a medical intern being invited in, but not a pharmaceutical salesman. The doctor seemed slightly irritated by my answer, but agreed. He then told me that I seemed nervous. I told him that I felt that I had come to a church and not a doctor's office. His comment back was that he sends his kids to a Jewish doctor and he has no problem with that. (Having worked for a few years in a Jewish doctor's office myself, I can say my doctor did not hang religious iconography nor make non-Jewish patients feel unwelcome.) Doctor Bill then told me that if I was not comfortable that I was welcome to leave. I should have left, but I didn't. I had taken that morning off work and it is easy to wait months for a dermatologist. I told him that I heard he was highly recommended and that I would trust him to do his job. My mistake. As he had me on the table for a biopsy, scalpel to my face, he said, "funny, the last time someone had a reaction like that to my office, it was a lesbian." Professionalism and patient comfort is apparently is not a priority for Dr. Mirando.

I was under his nurse practioner and I had several skin issues. I found a significant difference and he was fantastic. I will use him again in the future.
