Akron Remodeling Contractors Reviews

B
"Recommended to me by a friend but I was left somewhat underwhelmed by the work done. At the time no one was living in the house, but the work area was not kept very clean/tidy. Tools and debris all over the floor each night when they left. Drywall mud was also dried onto the hardwood floors from being slung around. The drywall work done was only ok and on the final day was left for me to sand down and finish myself. They also used masking tape on the hardwood floors for a small sheet of plastic, but it was left for me to remove and was really difficult to get off. The knee wall was built about 1/2" too short and now requires me to trim underneath the island to close the gap under the counter top
Also the job was quoted as 3 days but ended up taking 6.5 and was not left very clean either. I was on a pretty tight schedule for the rest of the kitchen renovation and was frustrated by the extra project time. No final walk through either, on the last day he just left the key on the counter and left.
They were very professional and trustworthy, however. I was not worried about leaving them in the house alone each day, and he would call me anytime a question came up. Also seemed to have my best interest in mind with the design and made several changes that were for the better.
Overall, the price was very reasonable for the work performed, I just feel it was left a little unfinished towards the end and he began rushing based on how long over schedule he was running.

"The job was supposed to take about 4 months it ended up being almost a year.

is a very nice guy but in our case he rarely kept his commitments. They used a sub contractor to dig the basement and pour the concrete and so far everything looks good there. They also used some Amish contractors to put the walls and the roof on, they completed this very quickly it took two days for them to finish, the crawlspace and the walls and roof took about two weeks to complete and I thought they were going to finish ahead of schedule. They also used a sub contractor to do the stone work on the front of the house and they did an excellent job and finished on time.

used the

crew to finish the rest of the house except for the electrical. We had to have another contractor come in and fix a few things that the sub didn't quite get right. We kept loosing power in other areas of the house when their electrical guy was working on the addition. Now everything is working fine. The tile in the basement came out okay, I wish they would have used the sub that did my last house, he was awesome. We had to get them to redo portions of the tile work in the bathroom since it was installed poorly. The faucets in the sink were installed such that you can't turn the hot water on all the way,
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me this was my fault. They also installed the faucet in the shower such that you can't get a room temperature shower you can only get warm or hot, I don't like hot showers in the summer time, the next time I need plumbing work done I will have a competent person fix this.

. The had two other guys that worked together that did the tile, some of the siding and dry walling. The drywall work in the bathroom was not very good, my wife had to re-texture some areas because they were completely smooth. We also had to get them to redo small portions of it because the fit and finish were very poor.

tried to charge me an extra thousand dollars because he had difficulty locating the outside siding to match, I told him no.

installed the siding in our entry way and it is holding up very well and looks like it was professionally installed. The siding on the front of the house and the side of the house has already come loose and one of the aluminum pieces came loose two weeks ago and started flapping in the wind and almost broke one of the windows. I called the owner and his customer service skills were not very good. He tried to blame the problem on the weather, I told him I would call a competent contractor to come out and fix it and send him the bill. One of their guys came out to look at it and suggested we glue the siding to the plywood, that was when we decided to have a professional siding company come and and fix it. They just left here a few minutes ago and they said it was installed improperly and suggested we call
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to com out and install it correctly, we asked him to quote it any wany and we awarded the job to him to fix the sloppy work that
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
had done. I believe the reason it took so long for
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to finish the job was that they were building a house in Seven Hills and we took second fiddle to that job. Needless to say we were not happy with

and could not recommend them.

"Company came over, looked at the bathroom and kept pushing and pushing that we should just remodel our whole bathroom, rather than just the tile on our bath/shower surround. At the end there was this really strange questionnaire which felt like a job interview. It was just over the top ("what do you look for in a contractor", etc.) with the questions and came off as really awkward. The guy who came out told me that he would email me the quote "after reviewing what needed to be done". I never signed anything (thankfully) and then he never emailed me. I wasn't going to follow up with it because I know the price was going to be MUCH higher than we budgeted for a modest remodel in our tub area.

"I am a recently new home owner and had a dated kitchen (1950's) Shopped different contractors to find the best quote for the job.

's proposal beat out the other contractors by far. He came out and met multiple times before the start of the project and was very organized. He was very flexible with my schedule (as I work in the evenings). He introduced me to his workers that would be helping him on the kitchen before they even started. His employees displayed professionalism throughout the duration of the project and constantly kept me updated and informed on the progress of the renovation.
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was easy to get in touch with at all times of the day and addressed any issues himself personally. He was not always there himself but inspected his employees work at the end of each stage of the project. He made valueable suggestions on areas of construction and renovation that I am not familiar with and let me make the ultimate decision instead of just doing as he saw fit. He finished the project in a timely manner and the final bill was not a penny more than his original proposal. He is hardworking and passionate about his business and I would recommend him and his employees to anyone I know.

"tOur initial get-together for an extimate was delayed twice by
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
request. Nevertheless we got together,
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
looked at the job and promised a written estimate in 5 to 6 days. That was two weeks ago. No phone calls, e-mails, nothing. Our feelings are that if he didnt want the job just say so (c ould have just claimed he was too busy) and we would have moved on. Now with the holidays upon us the work will be delayed till the new year. We are unhappy with

Service.

"The results looked great and the project was exactly on budget. I did, however, have to call them back several times to repair first a toilet leak and then a shower leak. They were perfectly willing to make the repairs but only as it fit their schedule which dragged out the process considerably. The project took longer than expected in part because one subcontractor in particular typically showed up late and left early. These guys do good work which they have stood behind without argument, but they basically have too many projects going at a time to provide top quality work up front and responsive customer service after the fact.

are honest, hardworking men who run this business. They thoroughly discussed our plans and tried to do everything just the way we wanted them to. At one point, my husband was not happy with the way the siding was going, and
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
came right out and made a change in the way the windows were trimmed so that we were satisfied.
They worked steadily and always tried to keep the mess contained and cleaned up. The quality of their workmanship, and that of the different people they contracted to do the drywalling, electric work, etc. is excellent.
The only reason I didn't give them an A on everything was that now we have a water problem in the basement, where the old foundation and the new foundation meet. Water and mud seeps in when it rains. They feel that when we replace our driveway, which is admittedly in bad shape, this problem will be alleviated. I am not so sure. I think eventually my husband will have to jackhammer the cement and use plastic and insulation to divert the old waterproofing system into the new drainage system. Also, we didn't plan to have to spend another $5,000 to $10,000 to replace the driveway right now.
There is also another water problem in the basement as the result of the new front steps joining with the foundation above the waterproofed cement blocks. This seems to be a design flaw to me. They thought that it just got wet because the first time it rained there were no gutters in place yet. They put on the gutters and sprayed clear waterproofing around the outside of the foundation, but I think we will also have to paint the inside of the basement wall with waterproofing paint. Of course right now the wall is covered with insulation to meet the code requirements, and we will have to remove that to even see if the wall is drying out or not.
Overall, they were very good, but not perfect.

"Contractor said the job would take 3 to 4 weeks Job actually took 8 weeks. Workers showed up in a hit or miss fashion. Even when they showed up, they seldom stayed to work the whole day. Quality of the work done is good, but it took a lot longer than promised when I received the estimate.

"As I stated above I initially hired another contractor and failed to read reviews on Angie's list prior. This other contractor who I paid thousands upon thousands of dollars to and kept raising the pricing on me so much that I could not afford to finish the job with the old contractor also screwed up pretty much all the work he actually did perform. That is when I joined Angie's list to find another good and fair priced contractor. I searched by zip code and the first one that came up was
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I called and talked to
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
the owner and explained that I hired another contractor paid him a lot of money and that the old contractor kept raising his prices in the middle of the job so much that I could not afford to continue with the project. The kicker is that the remodel was on my one and only functioning bathroom and the situation has left me with no bathroom in my home which I explained to
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
.

You may be asking yourself why I am giving you that background story on the old contractor leading up to my business with this current contractor to which the review is about Severans Construction and this is why.
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
came out to my home as I stated looked at the horrible job that I was looking to hire someone to correct and finish. I explained I dumped pretty much all my money into this other contractor that really took advantage of me and was looking for a good price to get a working bathroom.
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
gave me a great price to finish the bathroom and he showed compassion and empathy for the situation. Being I was without any bathroom in my home
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
immediately started the project to which I was very thankful for. As I stated before the other contractor walked off the job half way through it so I am sure it is harder to finish someone else's work and to know what they did and if they did it right.
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
unfortunately ran into several underlining issues as a result of the negligence and horrible work of the other contractor and I don't think
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
knew what he was getting into no contractor could. Even know
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
had to correct several issues some of them hazards he stuck to his contracted price, he never asked for more money or tried to raise the price... now that is a great contractor. I unfortunately could not be at my home all the time while he was completing the project but I felt like I could trust him in my home when I was not there and sure enough this proved to be true. He completed the project in a timely fashion, cleaned up after himself and kept me informed throughout the day with text messages and pictures when I could not be there.
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his worker were both very professional, knowledgeable, polite and most importantly they showed compassion for what happened to me by the other contractor. Something else that surprised me even know
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
knew I was taken advantage of by the other contractor he never talked bad about them, their work he simply pointed out the facts and showed me the stuff that needed to be corrected and remained very professional. He was always available to answer questions even later in the evening to which Is when I was only available to talk.

I can't say enough good things about
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. I feel very blessed that I was able to find a good honest contractor that really cared and was able to really help me out in a bad situation. They did a great job I mean it's perfect and if you saw the mess and problems of this project that they walked in to from the other contractor and you see the finished project it's crazy that they were able to pull this job off and get it perfect. I would highly recommend Severens construction to you. They didn't just do the job they made me a beautiful bathroom. Like I said it's perfect and their pricing is great.

"When
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
first started our bathroom,we did not expext it to look as good as it did becouse our bathroom was so old he had to take out the old cast iron tub/shower and put a walk in shower in all the surrounding walls were plaster, and the plumbing was as old as our house {ruffly 100 yrs old}. With a few optsicalls
Akron Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did an excellent job we were very happy with his work and all the suggestions that he had to make our old bathroom look new again,he was very respectful, kind and we will have him do more work for us in the future.."
