    Tim's Home Improvement
I met Tim and his son. Both guys worked with a smile and got the job done in a timely manner. My wife and I could not be any happier with our new bathroom. I can't believe it's even the same room, that's how big of a transformation it is. Great job Tim and crew!

    Mendrea Construction, LLC
Most importantly, we felt that they were an honest company. Having dealt with dishonest contractors before, Lakeview was an overall pleasant experience. We never felt that we were being swindled or cheated in any way. They were upfront with costs and adjusted the bill as changes to the project were made (both up and down). We were never pressured for payment, and each installment was only paid after the phase was done. The workmanship was excellent. Due to mistakes by the designer (whom they no longer work with), the measurements on our cabinets were off by quite a bit. They were able to adjust for this and you would never know that adjustments had to be made by looking at the final product. There was attention to detail, and when we found things that needed to be fixed, they did so with no questions asked. On the downside, we had significant delays (as it seems all projects do). This was quite frustrating at the time, but now that we are several months after completion, we appreciate the quality work and the frustration has faded. Communication and coordination at times could have been better, but for the most part they were very responsive to us. They do use multiple sub-contractors. Some were excellent, some were not. We needed to have the plumber come back to fix several things and would not recommend that company again. The hardwood flooring, cabinet maker, and drywall people were excellent. All of the workers - both Lakeview and the subs were professional, polite, and pleasant to work with. In summary, they were honest, genuinely concerned that we were happy with the finished project and, able to adjust for several unforeseen problems. They did not cut corners. When we pointed out mistakes, they were fixed without any difficulty. A couple of the subcontractors could have been better, but for the most part, they were excellent as well. Any project of our size has its frustrations, but we were very happy with Lakeview in the end and would use them again.

    Malek Construction
Literally one of the worst services I have ever paid for. The owner and his crew are clearly very inexperienced. It took his revolving crew over six months to complete a 38 SF bathroom. Yes, over six months. Malek Construction attempted to charge me for things that I paid suppliers for directly, they suggested that I needed to replace my entire plumbing (I had a REAL plumber fix for less than $150), etc. Every aspect of their work (tile, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electric) was shoddy at best. The owner, a seemingly nice guy, offered every "nice" excuse one could imagine. When called out on a direct lie, the owner would simply concede that "that was what his guys told me." I have no idea how they are in business. I would strongly urge anyone considering working with Malek Construction to look elsewhere if time, money, quality, or cleanliness are important. The owner did pay for my dry cleaning bill for clothing items in my closet that his crew managed to leave filthy. I guess that is worth one star...

    Rubber City Drywall, LLC
They were great. James, his father and son worked well together. They were on time everyday and kept me updated each morning of what they hoped to get done and then before they left they would tell me what they planned on getting done the next day. They did such a good job I hired them to drywall my rec room in my basement. I highly recommend them.

    Hook Home Maintenance
Randy promised a quote by the end of the week. No quote, so I called the office the following week to follow up, no return call. I called the office again this week, with no return call. Maybe the job was too large for this company. If the company did not want the job at least give your customer the courtesy of a return call. Would not recommend

    NRG Masters
Came out, looked over, appeared knowledgable. Said we would receive estimate in a few days. Even after follow up phone calls and e-mails from us we never heard from again. Waited over a month then moved on. We have no idea what happened?????

James, his father and his son did all the work. They were very polite and arrived on time every morning. They even moved my furniture from my attic to my sun porch for me and told me after it was painted and the carpet was installed they would come back and move it back upstairs if I needed them to. He would explain every day what they would be doing and tell me at the end of the day how much progress they had made. He told me it would take approximately 10 working days to complete the work and it took them 8 1/2. They are great workers and when they were finished we did a walk through and it looks great! I thought the price was very fair because my upstairs includes the walls going up the stairs, a hallway, a bedroom and the eaves which were also insulated.

We were content with them. They did a good job. They did what they said they would do. That was fine. I don't think I have gotten that rebate. I haven't followed up with them. I thought it would happen automatically. They were competitive on their price. They were very responsive. They came out when they said they would. They were punctual, and they did what they said they would do, in the time they said they would. There were three workers. The workers were fine.

My comments: One of the worst experiences I have ever had as a consumer and I have had many terrible ones. Incredibly rude and insulting crew. The owner is one of the worst human beings that I have ever the displeasure of communicating with in my life. The run-around about the owner being out of the country was absurd. The amount of conflicting statements or outright lies was astonishing (The conflicting statements are numbered in the timeline above). Many of the lies I suppose they can get away with, but I was under the impression that it was illegal misrepresent an R value. Maybe that is difficult to prove. Also, the minimum R-value by code in zone 5 is actually R-38 so I don't see how they are getting away with selling people less than that. Most egregious were the lies about the square footage. Who do they expect doesn't know how many square feet their home is? They didn't write any of the alternate square footage numbers down on the paperwork. They constantly cited "Mike" as an underperforming employee who didn't know what he was doing, yet then would cite an inability to deviate from what Mike had done in the original visit when it was convenient for them. He is also still listed as a contact on their Angie's List page. They make a big deal about wearing tyvek suits and respirators but they don't wear either (see pic) just the 99 cent dust masks you can get at Home Depot. I'm also not sure how a warranty can be voided, but quite frankly I would rather just pay someone else to come out rather than having to deal with this company ever again. They seem to have several good reviews, but I didn't see any for insulation or for a warranty claim and, in fact, found several poor ones related to warranty.

    NRG Masters
The company was very responsive initially, coming out to do an estimate and everything quickly. Ray seemed to be very competent and knowledgable about going through Dominion's energy rebate program. Workers showed up and completed the work timely. That was the last positive experience. NRG failed to submit my rebate paperwork, causing me to nearly lose my rebate. When I called/emailed Ray and the company to inquire, Ray failed to respond to any emails I sent. The person in the office assured me the paperwork was sent in (it wasn't). They didn't complete the paperwork properly, so Dominion attempted to reach NRG multiple times, but never received any follow up, causing me to lose some money on my rebate. NRG also had a man come and check out my roof, who told me it looked like it had been damaged in a storm. Attempted to work with him to get it replaced. Should have known it wasn't worth the effort when the guy failed to follow through on calls/emails from myself and the insurance adjuster. Eventually he came out, ripped off shingles when the adjuster came out as part of a "test". The claim was denied and the guy from NRG never really followed up again in spite of multiple emails and calls. So now I have a bunch of torn shingles on my roof and a notice from insurance company to have it repaired or I'll lose my coverage. Supposedly he'll replace the torn shingles, but its been 2 months and they're still missing.
