About Akron

Known as the City of Invention, Akron made its mark in the early 20th Century as the home of Goodyear Tire & Rubber and other key manufacturers in the then-emerging automotive industry.

Today, this northeastern Ohio city is known for such attractions as the Akron Zoo, the stunning  E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall and Quaker Square, a shopping mall that used to be a Quaker Oats factory. European-style mansions can be found in Merriman Heights and Sunset View, while Highland Square is known for its high-rise apartment buildings. The city is also home to a major research university and the historic Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
