    Denison Painting
I hired this company to help me with painting my apartment walls and cabinets. I wanted something neutral that would highlight the natural light and view that my apartment has. Deni provides valuable help choosing colors, through explanation about different types of paint, and the costs associated. He was able to take my vision and with great communication we set a budget and he gave me exactly what I wanted. He delivered exactly what he said he would, on time and with high attention to detail. I would highly recommend and will definitely use him again.

    Highland Custom Renovations
The completed work was very nice. However, company demands entire payment after showing up on the job once. Even after payment in full, work progressed very slowly. Work took four months longer than promised finish date. Many days and weeks no one showed up. Had to keep calling and inquiring about status. Ken and office staff polite and personable, but if you have a deadline, don't expect them to meet it. When they show up, work is satisfactory, but you need someone on site, checking every day, and giving them a punch.

    Michael Rivera
Michael Rivera proved to be an ideal contractor for us in many ways.  We are not comfortable making decisions regarding the selection of everything for the bathroom from tiles to fixtures to design.  He carefully but firmly pushed us to go out and make decisions regarding every aspect of the renovation making valuable and helpful suggestions/observations along the way. He quickly picked up on our tastes and was able to make recommendations on makes and models that fit both budget and taste.  He worked with us on the layout and design, often using numerous pictures from his previous jobs, until we were happy with the final design. Only after the design was set and almost all of the materials, supplies and fixtures were purchased and delivered did he begin work. We had to remove all of the furniture from a bedroom which he turned into a workshop/storeroom.   He was very neat and clean, lining the bedroom/workroom with plastic, the stairway side open to the living room (the bathroom was on the second floor) with plastic and covering the wooden floors with heavy paper.  At the end of every day he vacuumed the work area before he left.

Michael has a no nonsense direct style of communication on the job.  However hIs work ethic and the quality of his work was beyond reproach.  He did over 85% of the work himself.  He only used one part-time assistant to help him primarily with the demolition and rubbish removal.  The rubbish was loaded into his truck several times a week and hauled away.
He was always punctual, calling when he was on his way or calling to let us know if he would be delayed for any reason.  He worked a full day, took only a half hour lunch break, and left when he was satisfied with the progress.  He never took any other breaks and was totally focused on the job at all times.  He worked closely with the plumbers and electricians, making suggestions for solutions that were often agreed with and completed.

The quality of Michael's work is excellent and we are very happy with the results. We will be asking him to work with us again in the very near future.

    JR Laminators

We used JR Laminators to redo our kitchen and I would like to explain our experience with Jeff and his team.  My wife and I decided at first we just wanted to change the cabinets. Jeff came in and gave us a fair and price with little pressure and we decided to use him. Jeff was supposed to start in August but when the date came close he stated he was behind and would not be able to start for 3 weeks and offered to give us our deposit back. Jeff then made arrangements to switch us with another customer who was not in a hurry. The cabinets Jeff installed are beautiful; however throughout the process small communication problems left us slightly annoyed. We had discussed a swing door instead of having a dead corner however at the time of install Jeff informed us that he could not do the door and large drawers. We were not consulted about the change.   It is a minor decision but I would have liked to have been consulted. Upon installation, Jeff discovered that our walls were not insulated and our hood fan was not up to code.  Unlike most contractors, he did not try to upsell us on sheet rock and installation however I wish he had.  We had to hire another company to come in and put in installation and repair walls.  After hanging the cabinets above the stove we were informed that our hood fan was not to code and had to be raised, which meant that we would have to cut a hole in the side of our house and repair the siding, another unexpected expense.   Jeff did say that he promised us a beautiful kitchen and would not be done until we were completely satisfied.  A promise he has kept!   We called after he was done because our flooring company needed matching shoe molding.  Jeff provided this quickly with no extra charge.  The cabinets are lovely, the new layout is much more functional and overall we are happy.   I would recommend him to anyone ready to redo their cabinets.  My only advice is know exactly what you want and go from there because if we were to do it again we would of gutted the whole kitchen.

    U.S. Cabinet Refacing, Inc
I had to delay start of work twice - once until installation of new floor was completed and second because of a death in the family. U.S. Cabinet was very understanding of both delays and adjusted their schedule to meet my needs. When it came time to start the work, they showed up on time, completed the work on schedule. Staff were very professional and adhered to all requirements imposed by co-op board. I have already recommended them to a co-worker planning a kitchen renovation.

    JR Laminators
With many home contractors, you get a very skimpy contract proposal and you are left wondering whether to complete the project with this person or to go look for another.  Because JR Laminators received such high reviews here on Angie's List, I decided to give Jeff the benefit of the doubt and hire him to do the work we discussed.
We are very happy with the work that was done.  The kitchen is vastly improved.  Jeff was very accommodating, and even did some patching work gratis.  He was always punctual and professional, and very helpful in providing information or ideas that were not strictly part of the project.
The project took longer than I anticipated and I don't recall if it was explained or not at the beginning, but take note that just because the majority of the work gets done in 3 days does not mean you have anything that looks like a finished kitchen within 3 days.  It took several weeks for the counter-tops to come in, as they have to be custom measured once the cabinetry is in place.   During that interval, we had use of temporary plywood counters and overall the kitchen just looked like a mess.  This is nothing against JR Laminators, as it would have been the case with any contractor.  I just didn't realize it at the outset, so make the  note here for those who are contemplating similar work.

    U.S. Cabinet Refacing, Inc
We've had a very good experience with Seth and his crew.  We are still happy with the product nearly 5 months after installation in April.  The installation of the drawer pulls had to be put off because we hadn't found pulls that we really liked by the time the actual cabinet installation was finished (time delay was not due to Seth or his crew).  It took us about two months to find drawer pulls that we liked.  We contacted Seth and he assured us that he would come back to put the final touches on our cabinets - align and install the drawer pulls.

Seth's crew returned yesterday, 8/30/12, to complete the installation of drawer pulls.  My realtor later suggested adding an extra strip of laminate between the end of the base cabinets and stove, a request that Seth's crew was able to satisfy very nicely.  We have given them the highest grades because they were true to their word, because of the high quality of their work, their professionalism, and completeness.  All crews were amazingly polite.  We appreciate their attention to detail and desire to please their customer, even if it takes a bit longer during their busy summer season.  We heartily recommend them!

    SEARS HOME IMPROVEMENT PRODUCTS
In the beginning everything was done in a timely professional manner. For about the first three weeks, some work was done almost every day. The floor and countertop were installed, and my microwave, and most of the cabinets were done.

One cabinet door has not been installed at all and two others were to be replaced. Also, roll out shelves on new cabinets not installed, new bottom of cabinet under sink and moldings not done.

    Arthur Lange Inc
The process went on for far longer than we anticipated, using several subcontractors. The countertop installation finally occurred in August 2011, but it was November 2011 before the bathroom panels/doors were finally installed. The latter installation was delayed when the supplier sent the wrong panels.

That said, the workmanship was excellent as was the quality of the materials used. Particularly noteworthy was the perfect color match of the lightrails to the cabinets. The work went relatively quickly on each task once things were finally in place to proceed. The company was responsive when called, but it is a good thing we were not in a big rush to have the work completed.

    KITCHEN SOLUTIONS
July 2006 I visited "Glen" at Kitchen Solutions; I was admittedly unknowledgble about the process and time to order and install cabinets, but he was extremely arrogant in re-setting my expectations, letting me know that if I wanted a quality job, "we" couldn't rush it and it would take up to 3-5 months. This seemed a little long for my small galley kitchen, but I was not in a great rush, which is a good thing. That discussion was followed by one year of poor service, un-returned calls, feet dragging, etc. The estimate process alone took 2 months after the job was handed off from Glen to "Kevin" who seemed much less experienced, but twice as arrogant about timing, quality, budget, etc. Kitchen was finally measured and cabinets ordered 3 months later. Appliances were also ordered from them after they made it pretty clear that they would make things difficult if I went to local retailers. Cabinets came in around February (7 mos after 1st discussion). My contractor (Kevin could not seem to get along with him) installed in short order and a template was made for countertops. Granite and counters went reasonably quick and I was almost complete by April. The obscenely poor service began at this point: Kevin emphatically encouraged me to go with a creative tile design for back splashes (it did look nice) but after quickly agreeing to it, he could not seem to get the tile ordered. He disappeared on me, did not return calls, "yessed" me effectively for two months until I gave up. He never bothered to call and finish the work after $32,000 (plus $2,500 to my guy to install). The kitchen now looks good, and I am about 95% satisfied, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to work with these people. I am guessing that anyone spending $200,000 or more will be fawned over and get phone calls returned, and I can see them doing good work, but they also made several mistakes and I don't think they can be trusted.
