    CertaPro Painters of Syosset
Hired this company to sand and re-stain my deck. The owner, Jack, touted the fact they were experienced, professional painters and I would be satisfied with their work. The first problem was with the communication regarding the start date. The date we were promised came and went, and when we contacted Jack by email, he seemed annoyed that we were questioning him because "obviously the weather had delayed the start". While I realize they can't work in the rain, that should not have prevented communication about a possible new start date. This communication problem went on throughout the project. The main issue is, my very large deck is designed with dozens of wooden bollards, placed closely together in a very specific pattern where they are placed perfectly even at the bottom and the nails are perfectly patterned across the top and bottom of each bollard. I paid extra for this detail when I had the deck built. The first day Jack's crew showed up- unannounced- they could not work because there was no power source for their sander. (If they had communicated with us, and we knew they were coming, we would have left a cord out). TO my horror when I arrived home, I saw they had begun removing the bollards! I immediately called Jack and asked why, and his response was they needed to be removed to expedite the sanding. I told him I was extremely uncomfortable with this, and he assured me his workers would put things back EXACTLY as they were. The day his workers showed, I asked each one of them (3) if they would be able to put the bollards back exactly as they were and everyone assured me- yes, it would be no problem. The workers were very careless in removing them, not keeping track of which ones came from which section of the deck, and letting them fall hard to the ground (they are thin pieces of wood). So of course, once the sanding and staining was done, they began to very sloppily reattach the bollards. I stopped them and showed them pictures of how they looked before they removed them, and reminded them they were to be restored EXACTLY as they were before. They were completely uneven across the bottom, the spacing between them was off, and some of them were even placed on backwards! They attempted to fix it, but because they did not remove them section by section, but instead just dumped them all in a big pile, they were unable to put them back EXACTLY as they were- as I had been promised. Also, because they kept taking them off and putting them back on, trying to get them even, the wood started to split from so much drilling! When Jack came to inspect the job and get paid, I told him how extremely upset I was about the bollards, in addition to the fact that the sanding was done very sloppy. The previous stain was darker, and was not sanded evenly, so in some spots you can see the darker stain under the one they just applied. Also, I had to come out of pocket for $81 for a generator (plus money for the gas) because their Home Depot rented sander was not compatible with my house electrical wattage. The contract never specified any specific wattage was required for their equipment to operate. Jack acknowledged the split and uneven bollards, although he would not comment about the sloppy sanding and dark spots in several areas as a result. He offered to replace the split bollards and fix the uneven ones. When I inquired as to who was going to do the repairs, he said it would be the same crew who messed it up in the first place! I was not confident they could fix it, and feared they would make it worse, so I declined and instead said I would contact the original contractor who built the deck to see how much he would charge for the repairs, so that amount could be deducted from the amount owed to Jack. My contractor said the re-fit the bollards, replace the split ones and missing nails and correct the spacing he would charge $500. Jack refused to deduct that amount and would only deduct $250.

    Timeless Decks & Renovations
I give them all A's. The estimate was free. We actually haven't gotten the price yet. He works for the lady that does the architectural drawings, etc. We made an appointment for the next day after he was here and that was different from what the other guys (who gave estimates, too) did. They are very nice people, They are nice guys and personable. They didn't bullsh*t you. I have not made up my mind about which one to use. Each was working with the same thing, with the same design, tracks and railings. It is just a matter of making a choice.

    Distinctive Decks
It was a free estimate. They were very equal in terms of the service, and price wise. I'd say they did an excellent job. I liked that they were prompt, they were courteous, and no pressure. Design wise we were just replacing the decks as they were, this time the building would be composite instead of just wood. They made an appointment and came on time.

    Distinctive Decks
John did a fantastic job through the entire process.  He was the one who went through the design of the new deck with my fiance and myself, kept in good contact while the material was ordered and kept me appraised of when the project would be able to start, and it was him there every day for the mere week it took to get the fairly large two tier deck completely done.  I was very impressed with the hours they put in each day and how well the finished product came out.  The only hiccup was when a part of the ordered material that was sent ended up being wrong, but he quickly re ordered the piece, restructured the payment schedule, and took care of it quickly and easily.  One of the best experiences I've had with a contractor, would definitely use again.

    LONG ISLAND DECKING
I received estimates from 7 different vendors. They were highest and by a decent margin. Same work, square footage, and brand of material were estimated. In fact, they refused to supply a written estimate and I now understand why. My phone only quote if 'between 22k and 26k was a full 5k above the next highest estimate. Also, 8k above the lowest. Maybe paying for ad dollars or pretty booklets but I am not sure how they are competitive otherwise.

    Precision Fence Co
Precision Fence Co  showed up on time, gave me an on the site quote. They were slightly more expensive than another fence company but its well worth it. They showed up a week or two later to perform the job. Workers set up the posts and had the job completed in one day. Would use them again.

    N.E.A. Construction
They were recommended by a friend that they did a small job for.  These are extremely professional people from the owner to the workers.  The whole process was planned out in detail in advance and we were very impressed with how smoothly the whole process went.  There was a supervisor on the job at all times and the workers were all very knowledgeable and professional.  Everyone was very friendly and did their job very well.  The owner always answered his phone which was a big deal for us and made us feel very comfortable.  He always had great answers to our questions and made great recommendations for products to use on the house.  We love the design and our favorite parts of the new house are the kitchen and the master bedroom.  We love the floors the kitchen counter the glass counter the backsplash the lights the tiles and I could go on and on.  We are so happy that we used N.E.A. and would definitely use them again.  We would recommend them to anyone.

    Ambassador Home Improvement
We have not purchased anything from them at all. We didn't get an official quote. They came over and hung out with us for a while and talked to us about what we were thinking of getting done. They were very responsive but we felt the price was beyond our means.

    Major Homes Corp
We are just talking about it. We have not as yet gone to an architect, but they do have an architect for us. We are not ready to move on it yet but we are leaning slowly towards them. They were great. So far, we are real pleased with the person that we met. This one guy, his name was Fred, was really nice. They were prompt and they were professional. The man that came seemed to have a service attitude even though he was in sales. He was really a good listener listening to what our plans were. He was very professional. Their quote was $100000.00 lesser than the other company we got a quote from. They had a more realistic view of what we were going to do. We are considering using the company.

    JIM DURANTE
Mr. Durante is a wonderful, personable man who was easy to have around. The work all turned out beautifully. It is like looking at a different house. I trust him and his work, he cleaned up the mess from the old porch too. I highly recommend him.
