My mom is a breast cancer survivor in December 2012. I had to have my mammogram immediately when I turned 40. When arrived, the office atmosphere was nice. Since this was my first time getting a mammogram, I wasn't too sure what to do. The receptionist politely warned me that they were behind/ back-lagged with appointments. They called me in and there was another waiting room with the dressing room and lockers. The nurse showed me where and what to do. I picked a locker, changed my shirt to a proper nice gown provided and sat to wait. There were many women there at the time. I was called in about half hour or so. Thinking that the mammogram will hurt me, the nurse assured me it won't hurt. She explained what to do and to hold still. At the end, I was amazed it didn't hurt at all. I was impressed. They asked if I want to stay to hear the results. With confident, I chose not to. They mailed with the result on a pink paper and provided a brochure explaining the stages. I was impressed.

Again it's time for my annual mammogram. I just go there for my mammogram and I've done that in the north for 30 years. They are I think very, very good. They are a specialty organization; they are radiologists but they don't do broken legs or aching back and that sort of things. They specialize in breast health. They are an interesting mix of being very efficient and handling a very high volume of patients. The moment you stand back and look at that with a distanced eye, you would say that it is one efficient factory. At the same time each patient is treated individually and made to feel like an individual. There is no sense of hurry or impersonality. There is a quietness and calmness. There are many women who are there because they have found a lump and their frightened and a lot of people are just apprehensive about a mammogram anyway. They won't get one because it might land up in fury; so the atmosphere in the office is kind of calm and pleasant and serene. There is a fire in the fireplace and there are shawls or blankets to wrap around you if you're cold. Just the atmosphere is quite extraordinary particularly when you can raw back and look at the huge patient volume because people come from all over to this practice. The founding physicians created a specialized practice quite a long time ago. When the practice started more than 30 years ago it was sort of the radiologist and the sister was the receptionist. Another sister was the tech. Elizabeth Wende is the name of her mother. It had this much focused gentle and serene combined with the updated equipment and probably 3 or 4 years. The latest equipment is the best equipment and the best trained people they have. Because they specialized, I believe they are more likely to see or pick up something. They do all kinds of breast imaging now; so they have a staff is radiologists who read breast imaging all day everyday and are quite the expert at it. When you go in for this mammogram you have 2 choices if it's a regular screening mammogram. You may go in and wait for the results and 2 radiologists actually read it one after the other. Then they tell you what your results are or you can do what I call take the pictures and run because you might be there 2 to 3 hours if you’re waiting for your results. Otherwise you can go in and have the imaging done wait a few minutes for the tech to make sure that the quality of the images is satisfactory then they will notify you. The astonishing is that you get a report in the mail the next day. 10 years ago I went in for my routine cleaning mammogram and I as going to take the pictures and run and did and they called me the next day and saw that we’d like you to come back and do some more and I did. There it was to meet with the radiologist afterwards and they found something which was basically very early breast cancer. But it was the mammogram and the radiologist that had picked it up. They went ahead and dad a biopsy and then called me with the results very quickly then they followed up. Thereafter I was supposed to have a mammogram for every 6 months for a couple for years. After that I had to say for the follow up. It's a very impressive practice, very expert and very humane and gracious. The soft touch often doesn’t go with the highly specialized expertise.

Unlike the other reviewers, I did not have a positive experience here. I scheduled one appointment for two diagnostic procedures. At the conclusion of the scheduling call, the representative told me to allow 2-3 hours for the procedures. When I expressed surprise, she advised me that the tests (a mammogram and an ultrasound) were time-consuming. This deviated from my experiences at other facilities, but I went ahead with the appointment, having received a recommendation for this facility. In fact, I was at the facility for almost 2.5 hours. Over the course of the afternoon of my appointment, I spent a total of 15 minutes (1) walking between the waiting room and the procedure rooms and (2) preparing for and undergoing the 2 procedures and getting results. That 15 minutes also includes time spent waiting as the technician who fetched me fended off the swarms of women who surrounded her both times asking why they’d been waiting more than an hour to be seen. Beyond the 15 minutes of activity, I spent an additional total of 2 hours and 6 minutes killing time in the (very crowded) waiting room, where the wifi was malfunctioning. At some point a client advocate made her way though the throngs of half-dressed women. When I asked (having sat for about 60 minutes by then) if the wait was normal and did she have an idea of how far behind they were running, she said “we told you the appointment would take 2-3 hours,” then put a hand on my shoulder as if to comfort me and said “I’ll be back.” She didn’t take my name, so she wasn’t planning to look into my appointment, and while I’m sure she meant well, I was left feeling patronized, as if my frustration about feeling forgotten stemmed from some special female anxiety (hysteria, I believe it was called in the 1950’s) and not from a realization that there was no reason for the wait beyond the convenience of the facility. When I finally returned home my husband asked whether it was worth the wait to have results of both procedures. I believe he unwittingly tapped into the facility’s approach: take advantage of women who are anxious for an answer and may not be familiar with the client service provided at alternative facilities, stuff them into a room and get to them when it’s convenient. Expecting so many clients, apparently routinely, to cool their heels literally for hours is appalling, and it gives me little confidence in what it would be like to undergo a course of treatment here. I will not be back.
