Auto Transport - United Freight Of America
Car picked up on the day promised, however we thought we would get a call telling us when during the day ( before noon, afternoon or early evening) and did not so we called and got an answer. The difficulty was that we were not there for the car pickup since we lived out of state and relied on friends to help us and we did not want to inconvenience them or make them hang around their house the whole day. Also the car arrived earlier in the west coast than expected, and my sister got a call that gave her maybe 2 -3 hours notice to accept delivery. Unfortunately, she lives on an island, not the mainland and ferries only run every so often assuming you could even get on the ferries without advance reservations . Once again, we expected a prior day call. Problem with communications and the deliverer knowing the circumstances about ferry/ island... I guess the morale of the story is 1) be there yourself for pickup and be flexible and 2) don’t live on an island accessible only by ferry, propellar planes and personal watercraft. Makes it a lot less stressful

The vehicles were loaded in Texas without incident.  We paid for door to door pickup and delivery, however, the company refused to deliver the vehicles to our door because they said first, the car carrier was too low to go over the roads to our home, and then, the roads to our home were too narrow. I was on the phone for two days with a dispatcher in NJ who told us the company would take the vehicles to Schenectady NY and deliver them on a flat bed within the next day or two.  At the same time, my husband was on the phone with another dispatcher who was telling him he had to pick up the vehicles at the 'town hall'.  My husband insisted to him that we could not pick up one of the vehicles and drive it to our home because it was unregistered.  That is why we requested and PAID FOR door to door delivery.  After a flurry of calls, we were finally told at the end of the day that the company was going to drop off both cars 30 miles from our home because my husband had never shown up at 'town hall' and their driver had waited there for 'hours.'  It cost us an additional $200.00 to have the unregistered vehicle delivered by the service station where they had left them.  To add insult to injury, the driver from the service station where DAS dumped our cars, told us that there was no reason DAS could not deliver the vehicles to our home.  In the course of the conversations, my husband and I were given absolutely contradictory information from two different DAS sources.   At various times, we were told that: the dispatchers did not communicate with each other, they were 'short-staffed' that day, the salesman who sold us door to door delivery was from California and he didn't know the road conditions near the delivery point, and that we paid for door to door delivery which was not 'curb to curb' delivery.  When I pressed the dispatcher to define the difference between 'door to door' and 'curb to curb', she could not.  It was an altogether awful experience.  We were bullied, stonewalled, and finally, lied to.  My husband never agreed to pick up the vehicles at 'town hall' and they insisted that he had and that was the reason they were dumping them 30 miles away.  All the while, we believed they were on their way to Schenectady to be flat-bedded to us within the next few days. Be very careful when you pay for door to door delivery with this company.  You may not get what you expected.
